  • Hi Guys, is there any software you can recommend other than Photoshop that makes it easier to create some nice tile sets. I'm more a developer than a graphics guy, and buying sprites etc. and not being able t change them is a bit difficult. For now, I am looking at software that make it a little less hard to create your own tile sets for games.

Any of you know of software or a few really good tuts or books. I want a course or book I can buy if there is that describes from beginner to advanced.

  • Hi TG

Thank you for the in depth reply. I' have started to learn Java and will continue to do so. I think using C2 and gamemaker kind of also makes you a bit lazy, but if I keep up the learning in Java, byt the end of the year I should be much better and be able to do much more.

I have looked at GM, Monkey-x, Haxe and others. It's difficult really. If you have the money one can try them all but as for most, we can only get one to start with. What I want to create is basic games, very simple so for now it will be just that little niche before moving on to bigger ones. And the main concern is just the ease of getting the to Android and amazon with admob integrated.

hanks man, I appreciate your help. You shed some valuabe insight on my question.

    Hi Everyone

Maybe I was a bit harsh, and I apologize, I appreciate the comments and feedback and currently busy at looking at other alternative. Believe it or not, but I'm not a forum guy. I prefer to Google and look up videos to help me instead.

I just expected what I normally give my clients. When they pay me, I always and always over-deliver. I specifically asked in the pre-sales email, so I am disappointing that is is so confusion and not as clear as it sounded. Am I willing to work hard, yes, I have done so. After learning Java, I developed over 20 apps in the app stores with only beginners Java and I decided to try gaming.

I would sit for another week if there was a tutorial that was precise and make no assumptions about your level of understanding. Maybe I'm just used to buying software and sitting with the manuals that come with it, if the answer is in that manual I will find it and have no reason to complain otherwise. I admit this might have been the wrong place for this. I'm used to sitting and trying to figure something out, watching videos and reading manuals.

I think I'm definitely going to spend more time developing my other non-gaming apps in Java instead, which had been very successful so far. My attitude is pure frustration, I searched Google I tried the instructions step by step, most which worked until you get to exporting. Sorry everyone!!!!

The idea is also not to get rich, but to at least make a few $ every month as every bit helps.

Again, guys I am sorry for going on, I guess I need more patience but I don't expect to make make my problems other people's. If any of you have used Game Maker before, please let me know what you think of it. Yes I'm sad that I am not going to use Construct anymore because I've invested so much time in it and have created 2 apps, and a few other ones too. So I know the basics, enough create simple games and apps.

Anyway, sorry for wasting your time and I do apologize for posting in the wrong place. None of this was directed at any members of the forum but to Scirra instead, which should have and will be an email. After relaxing I now realize that these guys are also overworked maybe and need to stay up to date with the software and can't really do things like video tutorials etc. Anyway, I'll be seeing you guys. All the best with the game development.

    After making sure I understand C2;

purchasing courses and spending time to learn the software (countless hours, which turned out to be a total waste of my time),

after sending a pre-sales email which said making Andoid and Amazon games are easy I invested my money into this.

Now I literally spend more time trying to figure out how in the hell to get me app on Google Play. So here's my take of this and my utter disappointment in what I believe in FALSE advertising.

On your home page you make it look very easy but the reality is that:

    • You have no video tutorials which is what most people prefer.
    • You're tutorials are outdated and written by other people, so that is not to say they will always work
    • You have no tutorials other than the manual which is actually helpful and structured, you can't find answers and have to look all over the place jumping from useless tutorial to another even more useless piece of information.
    • You do not cater for total beginners like me at all
    • You make use of third parties to do heavy lifting for you, and by the way, I do not want to waste my money on software and than have to see a "powered by Ludei" on my app screen like I saw with one of the apps from another developer. Why in the hell would I then waste my money on software, then I would rather go and learn a much harder opensource alternative.

I can go on and on and on and on about how you fail your customers. I am so, so disappointed. Because of you, I have wasted weeks of my time and you sit back and make money and don't give a flying f*ck about the little guy like me. Yes, your software may be easy to learn, but seriously, you tell me what good is a game if you have so much sh!t trying to monetize it? We all are just trying to make some money.

You have to go through so much sh!t and hassles to export your app. For each platform it is different and if there was at least an up to date video tutorial accompanied by a step by step (not assuming we are programmers or experts) it might be worth of the crap and not a complete waste of your time. Seriously, if you expect people to pay for what you advertise than make sure you can back up your claims.

People like me who strive to do things right do not appreciate going through some shitty third party crap that don't work and have their "powered by logo" appear on my app. Others don't care, I DO!!!!!!!!

I would be all supportive in buying your software if it actually works and does what it promises. I'm, not going to waste my time further. I would like to say in closing that I hope you're really satisfied with wasting weeks of my precious time. I am pissed to say the very least. I could have done something else or learned something like Gamesalad while having to sit and trying to figure out this crosswalk and cocoonjs crap.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK PLEASE!!!! I don' expect answers from a forum when I have issues, I expect solutions, step by step guides, that should have been done before anything else to make sure a paying client get's all the help he needs.

My time that I wasted I could have made money doing something else. Let me rather stop because I value my time and my level of frustration is ....

Tell me what I need in order to get my damn money refunded and please I don't have time for people mucking with me over my hard earned money.

  • Hi Phuzz

Thank you for the help. I've tried and gets a blank screen. I've had it with this crap software and all this empty promises with sh!t. I wasted countless hours and actually created games in free mode before I bought to make sure I understand the software. They can go to hell with this. I'm asking for a fckng refund!!!!

  • Hi Napelazam

I am completely with you on this. ArcadEd has been very helpful. I fear this might proof to be a complete waste of my time too. I've since had a look at exporting to other platforms other than Android and hell this is a crap sorry o say the least. I sent a pres ales email asking if it is easy to publish to android and the answers it is easy indeed. I would recommend you look at Game Maker which I am currently trying out but will ask them if they also promise the word like Scirra and deliver something completely different. It would be one thing if they had decent tutorials for one but to make use of third party stuff that don't work like the issue now with cocoonjs, hen you have to wait, and I'm sorry but my time is valuable. Good luck and let me know what you decided. And YES YOU SHOULD GET A REFUND!!!! After all in my opinion this is false advertising ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU COMPARE IT TO GAMESALAD AND GAME MAKER.

  • Hi Phuzz

Your game is actually addictive LOL. Gave you a nice review with 5 stars and will help review your future apps.

I would really appreciate some assistance with this: In the tut it says ...

    -------

On Construct 2 level: add CocoonJS plugin to your application, and use it to show banners

For example: on start of layout > show banner ad bottom-center

If there are some places (like menus) where you don't want to show banner - use CocoonJS condition "is showing banner ad" to hide banner

    -------

How do I import the cocoonjs file into Contruct? I'm not sure what to do here.

  • Hi Phuzz

You got me all excited again. I've downloaded your app, and it's pretty cool actually. I will definitely give you 5 stars for it. I might have to uninstall soon though because I'm out of memory from installing Cocoon Launcher and Crosswalk stuff.

I noticed it said something about testing the adds but it then displayed fine after a few seconds, works like a charm. Thank you and I will keep you posted on my progress, I appreciate the help. I noticed that you have a weebly site. If you need help, I'm a web designer Thank you!

  • Hi ArcadEd

Thank you both for the replies. Since I posted, I've been trying my ass off and I feel like throwing my PC in the pool.

The course Mobile Monetization JCS, does it basically take me from beginning to end, walking you through step by step? I saw it now and it looks like it could help but just want to make double sure because I'm desperate. If it will help me I will definitely buy the course. I just want make my little app work on Android and Amazon with my little adds, is that so much to ask. Thanks again.

  • Hi Everyone

So after looking at C2, comparing it and reading the reviews and their claims for creating games for Android, Amazon, etc. I was excited, extremely excited. I invested money if some Construct 2 courses, learned with the free software and sure enough I created two educational apps with the use of the tutorials I bought.

Now it was decision time. I wanted to export these games to Android and Amazon, where I have about 20+ simple, basic apps created in Eclipse using Java. After investing $199 into C2, I was excited to get started but then the problems began. Take into consideration, setting up Eclipse and Java takes some learning.

For some reason, when I click on the layouts, the program keeps closing. This did not happen previously and I did nothing except for buy the license. Then you have to setup the process to view the app on your mobile device, which is not that bad but takes a while.

This is great, but after all that you find out what a mission it is to export to Amazon and to Android. This is not design once and play anywhere. It is design once and learn how third party applications frustrate the living hell out of you.

You have to do different things for each platform your intend to export to, making it a mission to deal with tutorials that look like sh!t and with Crooswalk I can almost guarantee that any new comer will stare at a blank screen. Cocoonjs works but only they know how to add Admob to the application. You literally read a tutorial on Scirra and have to go elsewhere where there is even less information. Experts might disagree but as a beginner it is hard. Don't get your hopes up.

I am crushed, because this is nothing like I imaged it to be. It looks so great on the home page, platform, easy , monetize .... but the reality is that with later research, I see that Gamesalad and Game Maker looks like much, much better options because the do the heavy lifting for you. I think Scirra should remove the claims to export to other platforms and say, we develop game ,making software (and finish there). If you really want to move ahead as a company I suggest you follow other examples who do the heavy lifting for people like me who are not experts in the field. yes I am willing to learn but give me definitive step by step guides that don't assume I know a lot. Heck I will even pay for it. Videos!!!! These work best, start using them.

But if you want to make any claims of being able to export to other platforms you should take accountability for it when you advertise it. If you can develop such an amazing piece of software then you must be able to think up solutions to what so many are facing. Follow the examples of Game Maker and Game Salad.

I am so disappointing in this that I cannot even begin to express my frustration after spending so many hours to learn how to develop a C2 game and purchasing the tutorials etc.

As I am writing this, there seems to be a problems with cocoonjs which causes the apps to crash, so that has nothing to do with C@ but now you tell me how long will you have to wait for a fix from another party. If you're just using C2 for android e.g. that renders the software kind of useless when compared to Eclipse, where you learn and you are in control of whatever you do. No Cocoon this and Cross walk that. I am very sorry but this proof to have been a complete waste of my precious time.

  • Hi there

Do you know if it's possible to export to Cocoonjs (sh!t) and from there taking the file and using it in Eclipse for Java/Android to add Admob and signing your APK file? I am extremely irritated with all this sh!t I have to do just to get the damn game to Android store, and then there's a whole lot of crap for Amazon too. THIS IS BY FAR NOT EASY!!!! The claims saying that it is sooooo easy should be directed at intermediate to advanced programmers.

Crosswalk is a load sh!t and don't work after wasting countless hours. Cocoonjs works, but how the hell is anyone to understand that ill designed website with tutorials that only they know.

Is there a way that this can be done in Eclipse otherwise I'll just throw this software in the damn bin, because I am not interested in created games for Chrome store, Facebook or Tizen. My goal is to create for Android and Amazon. Why can I simply create something in Eclipse, add a simple line of code for my adds, sign the app and publish to Amazon and Android and here I have to do a whole lot of different kinds of SH!T for ONE LITTLE APP????????

It seems Gamasalad and Gamemaker is the best option for this because all this sh!t takes forver where I can just program a simple app in Java and it works without me having to pay $119 for software and then have to waste a sh!itload of time. I really do think this is blatant false advertising making it look so wonderful and easy to publish to all these other platforms. When you actually try it, you find out you there are other third party CRAP involved and you have to deal with them and their issues too. I think I might spend a few more hours otherwise I'll just delete this software from my pc and continue to learn Java instead.
