  • This was a fun challenge and I can use this in my own projects:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1fu3cxy6k5qqxwz/Screen%20Typewriter.capx?dl=0

You can add in the rest of the letters and whatever other symbols you want and I included a backspace feature to allow your user to edit what they type and the space key.

UPDATE: I added in upper and lower case letters with shift key and the arrow keys so you can position text anywhere on the screen and the delete key clears the entire page. That is in the CAPX.

    Enjoy!

  • Reality of arcade is that the traffic is low quality - big numbers visiting arcade result in very few people exploring rest of the website.

We have some ideas about allowing users to monetise their games better in the arcade but that's a long way off yet.

    Low quality?

Kind of a slam on people that visit to play the games and that is what attracts customers that later want to make their own games.

I think the arcade is actually your biggest draw to the website but you need outside websites using the arcade games that can be linked to and websites want to see a picture of the game and preferably an animated gif so their visitors are attracted and want to play the games.

You need outside promotion and arcade websites like mine need game screens that help attract visitors.

I made these same suggestions in another topic:

Get rid of low quality games that are not played after 30 days as they detract from what can be done with C2/C3.

Allow high quality Scirra game designers to advertise in the side bars around games. That develops a following.

Give popular game designers their own blog and let them attract customers to the website and promote Scirra.

Take your huge advertisement off the game load screen and put the game picture and logo on that screen with a smaller add for Scirra. Our website visitors want to see what a game is about before plying it and the screens all look identical.

Use a format for the arcade similar to the scirra store with animated gifs and related games and a search feature.

Fix the server problems before releasing C3. People don't trust a company that can't even keep their servers working and makes Scirra look bad and their products questionable.

If game designers can make a few bucks from the arcade and store they will be your best advertising and spread the word in other forums and their own blogs and videos.

Stop focusing on selling game engines and focus on the games that those engines are producing and THAT will attract people to want your engine. Promote your top game designers and they will promote your engine.

Sponsor game Jams and contests with good prizes: One of the things all game designers like is a competition and if they can win or get attention for their skills they will flock to a website. When a jam is finished promote the winners on the home page. Give away a few copies of C2 and C3 licensed versions. Give out T-shirts and other cheap prizes and keep it fun. Gamers and game designers are all about having fun. Your homepage sucks with the same stagnant pics that do not attract people to want the engine because it creates great games.

Support the newbies and make the forum friendly and fun. This is something I have brought to your attention before. You have lots of beginners using the free version that want help with their games and some of us do our best to answer questions and those newbies are your potential customers for a licensed version. The forum has not always been friendly and mods can be over bearing.

Just suggestions from a guy that took a single video and created a niche that has over 13 million views, 85,000 subscribers and averages 6,000 visits a day. Expand your horizons.

  • I see this topic is populated with examples, while i amused myself with trying this my self.

Tried to 'copy' that Pokemon Ranger mechanic.

Probably not needed, showing off anywayz:

    Have fun.

LOL- yeah that is the same reason I did it. Looked like a challenge and something I had not tried before. May come in useful later.

  • You can get the latest free version from the C2 home page with no connection to STEAM and that should open your existing CAPX.

I uninstalled STEAM for that very reason as it tries to run all the time.

  • NOTE: Arcade having server problems so here is the CAPX from the tutorial:

  • You will need to have the cactus and clothing in all layout where it will be used if they are separate sprites.

You can set them to be attached using a global variable that will pass information between layouts.

  • you can scroll to an object that you center on the layout in events.

your window will always start in left corner of the layout when editing.

You can resize the window in layout properties View settings.

    > I like what I see and would like the CAPX please.

    >

Same as when I try to download yours.

Now I think it's definitely a server problem. We're still getting the logging in problems right?

Yup it has to be a server problem because I know my CAPX was uploaded.

It works in the Tutorial version and you can download the CAPX there.

I will let Tom know the CAPX files are not working in the arcade.
