  • I think we all could benefit from a forum dedicated to art. Since good art is an important component in making games, and C2 attracts non-programmers like artists, why not make the community more inviting to artists?

  • I think most people refer to it as shaded vector art. It's popular in icon design. Google "shaded vector icons," and you'll get a lot of examples.

More artsy people would describe it as simple Geometric Vector art. A geometric style is characterized by the use of simple shapes (triangles, squares, circles, abstract, etc.) to form patterns or more complexed shapes.

  • Hi gizmodude4,

If you are an iOS developer, you can download iOS 8 beta 5 and test your game on it right now if you want.

Try checking your collision polygons for both the character and box. If they have an odd shape, they might be catching. Just double click on the sprite and select the polygon icon in the editor. If the character is animated, check the collision polygons for each frame too.

Thank you! I've already started working on the next version. If you have any suggestions for improving my game, I'd love to hear them.

Thank you for the reply and the information about PhoneGap. I didn't know about the blog post. I'll read further into it.

Since 89% of iOS users (according to Apple) are using the most current version, PhoneGap might be the way to go when iOS 8 is released. Providing everyone chooses to upgrade. If I remember correctly, iOS 8 will run on an iPad2 and iPhone 4s.

  • I thought Scirra was working to improve the Ejecta plugin, but now it seems they are throwing their support behind PhoneGap with the latest Beta build. Which is better for iOS? Can anyone explain the differences between them?

  • Hi Everyone,

My first game was just released on iOS! It's a simple game where you are a bird with a sock and you try to avoid the envious flock that tries to make you drop it. Thankfully, you can use your sock to fight back and sock it to them!

It's completely free! There's no ads or IAP. Early adopters get 100 free in-game coins toward unlocking different socks. Please give it a try and let me know what you think.

  • The salary range for a game artist is somewhere around $20-$60/an hour based on skill and experience. Lead artists make up the higher end of that range. Art Directors can make more.

I like liaeb's advice. Decide what your time is worth, then figure out how long it takes you to complete assignments, and charge based on that.

  • It's up to the individual to decide for themsleves what art is. If you connect with it and you feel it's art, then it is. That doesn't mean it's "art" to everyone, because they may not connect with it in the same way as you or at all. You wouldn't tell someone their favorite color isn't blue. In the same way, you can't tell someone what art is to them. Art is subjective.

  • Thank you very much! I've read through a lot of your tutorials and forum posts. I'm looking forward to viewing your class. :)
