  • I found a work- around using global variables, under the "every tick" event. Got everything nice & solid!

    Thank you!

  • I'll get right to it.

My main character is loaded with image points & some of the objects set to them have image points, themselves. Everything was working fine until I noticed one of these objects "lagging" behind the character while in motion as if it couldn't keep up. This is despite the fact that I have it set to this image point every tick.

I checked my image points. I checked my origin hot spots. I've checked my event sheet a dozen times. I couldn't find a problem or conflict anywhere. Finally I started building wholly new sprites to replace it but the problem persists

Does anybody have an idea of what might be going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Sparkz.

  • Happy Halloween, good people of Scirra!!!

    & a happy Friday the 13th.

This program has been very good to me & I want to share what what I've been working on.

A few years ago on Halloween, my girlfriend & I were playing with Perler Beads. We stayed up all night watching horror movies & making little glow- in- the- dark ghosts out of these plastic beads that would then be melted together. we hung them about in our art gallery. Later, I drew the set of my 9 pixel art ghosts into my computer. As I did so I gave them names & it hit me!

    Pearl's Ghosts.

    Featuring, from left to right;

Santa, Whuh, Fister, Glub, Whoo, Baby, Cornelius, Boo & Kathy.

I quickly designed the Female Pearl character & started searching for a program that could help make it happen.

Between other matters, it took me a few years to find Scirra. Once I got my feet wet, there was no stopping me.

The online tutorials have been nothing short of amazing! In no time at all, my game started taking shape.

I've worked on every zone in the game. Figured out it's greater mechanics. One fine evening, every zone's theme song raced through my head & in only a few hours, "Pearl's Ghosts" had the greater elements of its sound track.

This is literally a dream come true. After a life- time of fantasizing. After RPG maker on Playstation. After a highly devoted mod of a "Sonic the Hedgehog" fan game on the "Doom Legacy" engine, I have finally made something I can love & share.

Now my demo is ready. It is the full first zone of the game & I'm open to opinions.

Please download it let me know what you think.

From one Halloween to another, I proudly present "Pearl's Ghosts"!

    Thank you,

    Stewart B. Carson AKA Sparkz

  • SOLVED!!!

Under the properties for the 8 Direction Behavior, is "set angle". This is the option that rotates the Player box & hence its collision polygon. I simply set it to "NO". With this 1 option set in the properties, I was also able to delete the actions that set the player box angle to 0 degrees every tick. My event sheet looks much cleaner!

  • Yes I have. The tutorials call it the "player box". It's the player box's collision polygon, specifically that's giving me all the trouble.

  • So my 2D side stroller employs the 8 directional action as part of a flight power up. However, once my player lands & 8 directions are disabled I noticed the player walking on "invisible" bricks. On a hunch that the player box may somehow be responsible, I changed its opacity to 100% & played again. Sure enough, I saw that the 8 direction action had the player box spinning around the hotspot at the players feet. I remedied this under the original action that sets the player sprite to the player box every tick by adding "set angle to 0 degrees", thus stabilizing the player box. That part was easy

The problem subsided only somewhat. Sticking with my idea that it's a player box problem, I changed the shape, size & position of the player box's collision polygon within its sprite & gave it a few more runs. Turns out I'm right. I found my player tripping & walking all over the wildly twirling and invisible collision polygon of the player box even though the player box itself remained at 0 degrees.

The logic I seek is simple. If the player is on the ground, they should be effected by normal gravity. Not walking on invisible boxes.

Is there a way to reset or stabilize the collision polygon upon disabling 8 directions or do need to embark on some huge work-around where countless player boxes are spawned & destroyed?

  • Thank you!!! The levels are on different layouts. I have conquered this particular obstacle & moved on to new problems. These problems don't hold me up too bad. This software is amazingly intuitive.

  • I'm trying to get my player to finish the level, have their score tallied & move on to the next level. I already have a preliminary layout & event sheet for where I want them to go next. I've searched the software and forums all day with no luck. I'm lost in the terminology between; Zones, Levels, worlds, ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

  • Hello, everybody!

Stewart B. Carson here, AKA Sparkz. From New Orleans Louisiana. Just downloaded Construct 2 as part of a decades old dream of making a video game I'm a story teller, cartoonist, animator, map builder and musician. I have ALMOST ZERO skills in making a finished game and putting all the pieces together. I already know a great deal about the game I want to create. I've already animated sprites, drawn rough drafts of the zones and scored most of the sound track. With a little help, I know it can be brought to life.

I would like to thank everybody for making it so easy to become part of something like this!!!
