  • Hey guys,

I am not sure where I should post this, since it is not a bug-reporting, but rather me posting a fix for an apparent "Chrome" bug that's been plaguing me for about half a year now.

For those of you experiencing Reeeeally long load times after working on your Node-Kit based projects for a while. You may be interested to know as I had just found out, that Chrome based technology has an intermittent bug (usually with Windows 7 it seems), where it stores a new copy of resources in your appdata files, instead of just using what is already there.

How this effected me, was that after a couple months of working on my Node-Kit project... it started taking a staggering 1 hour to load, and gaining.

After I found out about the bug, I wanted to see if I was effected. The size of my "C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\projectfoldername" folder was over 5.5Gigs! For whatever reason, it was full of over 5.5 million 1k cache files. It took almost 12 hours to delete... but after it was done, my project loaded lickity-split!

I just wanted to share that with you all. It is a rare bug it seems... but a project stopper for those of us on this system configuration, trying to develop EXE's.

    EDIT: Grammer

  • Hey, thanks Albert. That is really nice to hear! :)

The game took about 2 months to code and assemble the art assets (some original art, some purchased, some purchased and edited). It's nice to know that the current game art can be received well. Personally, I have a like/hate relationship with it. lol.

Did you have any issues/opinions/suggestions/complaints about the Demo?

Thanks again, for checking it out too!

    -Jeff

  • Thanks for the comment Sqiddster. :)

I know what you mean about the graphics being bad. It was released in this form because I can't afford the art (yet), and I noticed a lot of games are being sold with similar or worse visual quality while making a profit. Hopefully I can pay for an artist through some sales, and my Kickstarter campaign (made for this very purpose).

My saving grace is that most Rogue-like fans are fine with bad art, as long as the game is fun... which I am hoping they find it to be! But you are right, bad graphics equal loss of customers.

    Thanks again for the input!

  • Hello all!

I just released my Construct 2 game, "Shadow Hunter". It is up in Steam Greenlight, and is being sold on my website.

    Also, I want to say...

I have been in the community for about a year, though mostly hiding in the back... and I just wanted to thank you all for the help you've given me, through helping others with similar challenges. This game is by far the most fun I've worked on, and mainly because I found you all so helpful to each other.

  • Hey all,

I just put a Construct 2 game up for Steam Greenlight consideration. The video should start right up.

    Thanks!

    -Jeff

  • Thanks for the welcoming. :)

That's wonderful news about the license! ... and thanks for raising my awareness about the target platforms you guys. I hadn't considered that.

    A personal note:

It really is too bad that we as game design artists have to be preempted by companies, rather than being allowed to take personal responsibility from those who are offended. Kudos to Scirra for allowing us to be adults. I will say, this alone gives my thumbs up for this company and product... and the fact that this creation software is the best I've used (and I'm a bit of a game engine junkie), is a double bonus!

Now I can breath easy and just let my mind go, for better or for worse. :)

  • Oh, that's good to know about Ludei... thanks JW!

Hopefully you're right about C2! I admire companies that don't stifle creativity, especially based on the conditions in the quote you posted. Some people take things too seriously, and can have a problem with just about anything. It would be a shame to have to pull a game off the market, because someone found something objectionable... especially if you were lucky enough to land a gaming contract from a show like South Park (not that I have, but wouldn't that be something?).

    Thanks again for your response!

    -Jeff

  • Hi All,

I have an odd question. A year ago or so, I purchased the GameMaker engine, but read in their license that I was not able to create games that others may deem offensive. It's not that I WANT to create an offensive game, but I don't want to break any rules if someone takes issue with where my creativity goes.

Are there any such limitations with this engines license? I read through it, but couldn't find anything on the topic. This leads me to assume I can do what I want. But I want to make sure. :)

    Thanks all!

    -Jeff

  • Great, thanks.

Is that listed somewhere? I didn't see instructions or a readme.

    Thanks again!

    -Jeff

  • I just bought Construct 2, and I can't for the life of me find a way to enter in the key... and I can't find info on this anywhere.

    Thanks all!
