  • Wrangler, another quick question if I may! how large are your sprite images when you work with them in photoshop? I'm new to drawing and what Ive done so far is about 100x100 pixels large, but it comes out so small and blurry when I apply it to my games :S

  • Hey again guys! I'm diving deeper into the world of game design and development and I'm wondering if there are any good magazines, blogs or equal readables out there that you read or follow? The stores in my city offer lots of magazines but all of them are mostly game reviews or pure computer science :/

    So, got any good tips for me?

  • any reason you are using the every tick instead of pinning the player to the box?

    I'm just very new to Construct2 and I basically followed the guidelines in Ashley's beginners tutorial.

  • Hey!

    I'm making my first game, a platformer and I'm trying out some different mechanics and try to learn as much as possible about the program.

    Currently the moving sprites move on flat surfaces smoothly, but when they go up- or downhill they create a wierd looking gap since they only touch the ground with a small part of their animations.

    What I would like is to have my sprites, both enemies and the player move so that when they walk up or down a slope or hill, they automatically face slightly down- or upwards. I havn't really managed to work this out myself and wonder how I should do?

    Worth mentioning would be that I use a "playerbox" for all interactions with the game world and have the player sprite pinned to it with the: "every tick, set position to playerbox"-event.

  • Well, I've been thinking about a game where you are stuck in a pitch black cave, and the only things you see are glowing enemies and objects, the objective being to explore and find a way out, or back to the surface. Could be a platformer or a classical snestype zelda game where you view the player from above. I would think that would be simpler to work with as a beginner?

    Really a good point right here. Considering that you've said you're new to this, it could be worthwhile to consider a simpler design. Actually finishing a game is very empowering, whether it's simple or not. Plus it's a great opportunity to get yourself familiar with the engine.

    This is also very true, and I might even save this idea for when I'm a bit more experianced. I do have lots of things on my mind right now that could be a lot simpler to accomplish, might reconsider and carry out one of those first..

    My name is Emil, a.k.a. Lemonmuncher and I'm a 22 year old guy from Sweden. I live with my lovely girlfriend together with three crazy cats in southeastern Sweden.

    I recently decided to follow one of my dreams, which is to work with creating games! I'm very new to game development and still try to figure out my style and what exactly I want to accomplish with it.

    I grew up with a Nintendo controller practically glued to my hand and I've been a huge fan of their games and consoles for as long as I can remember. Also I do play a lot of x360 games along with spending time by my computer.

    I hope you guys will enjoy having me around as much as I will enjoy your comments, discussions and all other things going on here, and I hope we can share and inspire each other with our ideas and creativity to accomplish greatness!

  • Hey guys!

    First of all I'd like to say hello to the community! You seem like a merry bunch of people (I've been snooping around for a few days before I made my account :P)!

    I'm very new to game development and I have no prior skills in either programming or game design and first saw Construct2 on Steam and thought that I should try it out. It seems to me that the program itself has a lot of potential!

    Anyhow, the hardest part in game dev. as I see it is coming up with a great idea. I love platformers so that'sa what I'm currently aiming on creating!

    The idea itself: A platformer with 3 playable characters with different skillsets, level based and a progressive storyline. The main story is the same but depending on who you get to play you follow from that persons perspective.

    Now here's where it gets a little bit more interesting! At the beginning a big lottery-type wheel with each characters head on will appear. You spin it and when it stops you get to play the character the pin points at for the next three levels. Once you beat the game, depending on which character you beat it with, that person will be selectable if you choose to play the game again.

    I'm currently working on the game art and havn't really started with the actual game yet but I was wondering if this sounds like a game you would like to play? Feedback is always appreciated!
