  • Thank you for making such an easy to learn and impressive toolset. I have always dreamed of making video games, and now that I am 30 I am realizing I have less and less time to follow those dreams.

I have looked into numerous Game Creation Kits up till now (Unity 3D, Gamemaker, RPG Maker, ect) and until recently could never muster the courage or the will to try them. Bar RPG Maker. But RPG Maker is a bit....specific in what it can do.

Finally I decided to try Construct 2, when it got released on Steam. Within an hour I had done the beginner tutorial and had made a simple game, and then had done a Platformer tutorial, and then after another 3-4 hours had made my first platformer, Square Platforms.

Since then, I have done 2 more games (Escape from Omega Base being the one I am most proud of!) and am working on a 4th right now. And ever game I make, I get a bit faster, a bit better at how Construct 2 works.

So thank you. This software is amazing! I fully intend to pick up a full version when I can as I want to improve Escape from Omega Base (its at the 100 event limit) and also eventually create my own RPG (debating between JRPG or Action RPG). And who knows what else I may come up with!

So thank you Scirra for creating this software! Lets hope it keeps on trucking!

  • Dude this thing is sweet! Can't wait to see more!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I am not even sure what CocoonJS is, but hey, I am all for getting games to more people!

    Where do I sign?!

  • Its their choice whether or not to support Linux. Simple as that.

And I haven't Blue screened in years. If you don't like Windows then don't use it, but don't expect companies to bow to your whims because you have issues with one OS and wanted to move to another. You want to use Construct, you need the OS they support.

Its a 2 man team. Its not like they have all the time in the world. Hell they dont even have a MAC version yet. Linux is small potatoes compared to the Mac OS and Windows. So if they dont have a Mac version what makes you think they would have a Linux version? 0_o

  • I highly disagree.

Construct2 for its regular updates is not even fitting for a 30 day trial.

Ppl should be free to try the product out and know what they are paying for first.

Scirra wont in no way get higher earnings from killing a limited free version that you cannot use for commercial project because you need more than 100 events to make a game.

You should make a detailed explanation of why you think "killing" the free version is a good idea and how is that improving the selling.

What would boost the selling in my opinion is making quality games with construct2 and get positive reviews by big companies or big web gaming communityes.

Indie communities would be a good start to publish reviews because that kind of comunity contains all kind of game developers and game lovers

I personally found out about Construct2 via the Reddit GameDev community, along with the Construct2 Subreddit.

  • Hey guys thanks for the comments. I've worked on this a bit more, but I've put it on hold until Spriter releases and works well with C2. The animations have gotten very heavy and I want to keep them looking fluid rather than cut out frames.

StrangeDos - To change layouts, I just have 2 hidden objects. A door object that sends the player to the next layout when they collide (the door has a variable with the name of the next layout). There's also an invisible spawn point on the next layout that the player spawns on

How do you get the player sprite to spawn in the right spot on the other layout? Cause hell if I could figure out how to do that!

Also I really dig the concept here!

As long as you have a good graphics - yes. The test is nothing else, but 8-direction movement with few solids. You could create the same test (as long as you have the art) in 10-15min in C2!

I figured as much from looking at it.

I happen to be backing that game on Kickstarter haha.

My wife intends to do art for my game, once I am ready to do it.

  • Why would you want to break it into tiles? Then you couldn't do as much unique graphics.

Indeed. I am curious as well!

  • Fun Question: Could Construct2 do something like this?

  • Hamstar?k is my favourite to date. Video: youtube.com/watch

Thanks I will give that a look! If you are the creator of Mortar Melon by the way you were mentioned first ;)

  • If there had been no free version I would never have bothered with trying the software honestly. And now, come my first March payday I intend to purchase the full verison. I already created a game that hit the 100 event limit in the free version and I would love to make it better (Escape from Omega Base)

But I need the full version to do that.

I already saw how having families, and no event cap will allow me to do the things I want.

So yea, killing the free version would be a terrible idea.

  • change the property setting of "default controls" to NO on your sprite

then use the following actions to move your character with whatever keys you want

    on key down "w"

-> simulation 8 dir control "up"

    etc

Thought it would be something simple like that. Just takes 4 events to get it done.

    Thanks.
