Thanks! I'll try to have another demo out soon.

  • I've been working on powerups for my Hobo project this week. This is an example of one of the many uses for Beardomancy.

  • That site has been completely invaluable to me. (Its how I found Construct in the first place!)

  • Great stuff! Loving the animations. I'm also getting that issue where movement locks up until I jump, but only after dashing. Running Firefox 12.0

This is great! I have started working on a similar Metroidvania-style project but I can't get the changes back and forth between layouts to work. What is the best way to do that?

I managed it with my own project by having whatever triggers the layout transition also set a global variable that tracks where I was last. Then on the next layout's start it compares that value to decide where to set the player's location. That way you can have multiple entry points for one area.

  • Well, ideally you would use sprite objects for terrain tiles. This tutorial by Ashley explains it really well. scirra.com/tutorials/253/how-to-make-a-platform-game

    Hope that helps.

  • Try Construct 3

  • It looks like you're trying to use the tiled background for your terrain tiles. What the tiled background is for is like sky textures or any other images that can repeat infinitely in a direction without seams between them. Unless I'm mistaken, that line is the right edge of your image starting to repeat again.

    Super cool game demo!

I agree the pixel art is great.

    Keep up the good work.

I really like the little extra visual touches, such as the hobo warming his hands when he stops by the fire, and the pecking seagull.

Will there be interactivity with the background characters? (eg, Beer swilling man, or the other hobo). They just look so good it would be nice to be able to stop and have a chat with them or be heckled as you pass.

Anyway, best of luck with the project. Looking good so far.

Thanks a lot, guys. Dave: Yeah, I'm planning on adding some NPC dialogue pretty soon, and maybe a way to get little jobs from a few of them. We'll see how it goes I guess!

  • Thats actually very nice start, I dont usually enjoy pixel art much, but you did wonderful job. Environment looked alive and kicking which was big reason why I enjoyed playing this demo so much, all best luck to your project :)

    Thanks a lot! Super encouraging.

  • Hey all, new guy here. I've been working on a platformer to teach myself the engine over the past two weeks. This is my (very) short test level I've been using to try features out as I implement them.

  • Hey all. I've been lurking for the last week or so while I familiarize myself with Construct 2. I have to say, the software is amazing and so is the community here.

I'm a digital illustrator mostly (I've got some old stuff up here: rh-artcave.blogspot.com ) but I've always been interested in game design and the pixel art aesthetic in particular. Hopefully I can successfully funnel some of my weird ideas into a functional game.
