  • yea i did notice performance took a hit when i went to 2048x1536.. how could you get the tilemap system to work with the simplex noise plugin? It's vital to use the noise generation / seed stuff. even if i have to work in limited spaces like this, i would probably link locations.. so there could be a lot more maps than just the one..

Here is what I have so far.. its important that the various blocks are interactive..

notice you can click the brown dirt.. you have to click the rock blocks three times to destroy them..

  • EncryptedCow yea that's a great point.. I guess how they are spawned wouldn't change their behavior once created.

Now this simplex noise plugin.. that sounds very interesting thanks! I couldn't find much on the theory behind how random groups of things could be generated.

    Sincerely,

    Caleb

  • yea i see that now. I wasn't familiar with MIME.. that it was something that required action on my part.

yea that is true about the touch to hear sound, but that's usually addressed by having some kind of "touch to continue" prompt which feels natural to the user and achieves the need for touch.

I was just testing on my Galaxy S4 and it seems like sound is terribly delayed, not sure why that is, but i can't imagine its anything C2 has control over.. its so slow it's almost like the preloading is occurring with each touch.. but that's for another day i guess..

    Thanks!

  • Hi everyone,

So I have this game i want to explore.. It's basically a 2d top down minecraft-esk game. I ran into this problem with GameSalad as well, but I highly suspect there IS a solution with C2 that simply doesn't exist with GameSalad.

    http://part12studios.com/temp/TileTest/

here you can see i'm making a tile grid and i'm using "ever tick" to fill the screen with tiles. this is pretty fast, but far from instant. What would be the best way to create instant grids. This test is relatively few boxes.. I would imagine the game could have many many more.. C2 might not be the right engine for this, but I'd like to experiment with it some..

Also, bonus question.. the other big unknown would be how to create terrain.. yes this is still top down 2d, but imagine you have a grid world you roam around in.. and there are raised areas that represent random hills and curves that you dig into.. as if you're digging tunnels (think Dungeon Keeper) through these raised areas..

It boggles my mind how Minecraft and other similar voxel based games are able to create caves and various hills and such.. i wouldn't want to just create random blocks, but more like random groups of block on an x/y plane.. the idea of manually crafting would be in thinkable.. it would be ideal to let the engine generate the terrain.

    Thanks!

  • Hi everyone, I just wanted to return back to this. I believe the issue I was having with audio wasn't C2 at all. It was the MIME settings on my web host service. m4a were not enabled. So if you ever have trouble getting audio to come through. Be sure your provider is configured to stream ogg and m4a.

This also helps with some Internet Explorer issues people may come across where they have no sound even on PC..

So after having fixed this issue, I went back and redid some tests.. http://part12studios.com/temp/SoundTest2/ works great now for both iPads.. I did however have to use preloading to insure they worked because when i didn't preload, audio didn't seem to fire off even after waiting awhile and even refreshing.. so seems that preloading is your best friend to insure audio is loaded and ready to fire off.

    Thanks!

  • i see, yea I just assumed that if a file is uploaded, it can be accessed, but I've learned something new! Thanks. Problem resolved and sound is working. I have only tested on IE11, but I'm sure 9 and 10 would work now as well.

    Thanks!

  • awesome! I'm using hostgator as well. I got it to work! That's awesome. I'm glad there was a solution! I wonder why IE11 and it's predecessors are picky while Chrome and FireFox (and likely Safari) are cool with it.

  • mime types? could you explain a little more about what you had to do to get it to work? This is great news!

  • yes this is it! It will take a little work to go back and swap out a new TagText Text object, but this definitely does the trick. Thanks again for knowing about this and sharing! I've bookmarked that dudes whole plugin page. I saw some very cool things that when I have time to explore will go back and try out.

    Thanks!

  • wow that is incredible.. thank you so much for making this plugin! This was a life saver..

On a side note, does anyone know if underlining text is something that could be achieved?

I realize C2 doesn't offer an underline option, but I just wonder how that could be a achieved if at all? I've had to do hacks like actually place a line graphic under text to create the illusion of underlining but of course this could be a problem very easily if anything dynamic were to occur.

  • can anyone from Scirra weigh in on this issue? It's clearly a broad issue many users are experiencing. Having our games fail to make ANY sound on IE10 is a serious problem. we can't expect people to go use Chrome or Firefox.. clients will not be ok with us telling them their customers will have to use anything but IE10 to hear sound.. Ashley can you confirm this issue? It's really thrown a wrench in my dealings with clients when I have to tell them they can't play their HTML5 game on IE..

  • yea those things are somewhat disheartening but Ouya is also looking to go to a streaming model as well, so while the hardware might go away, they may be able to move their wares to a streaming service which certainly doesn't mean certain success it shows that they are bringing another option to developers to reach gamers..

maybe no one is buying.. but i feel like its still a great place to get something off the ground. a test market. after all we have C2.. we can make it for many platforms.. so Im still excited to do it, if not for any other reason than the accomplishment.

I don't want this thread to be a "Ouya is dead" debate.. it may be.. it may not be.. but for those of us who do want to try and put something out there, this should be where we post about how to accomplish that.. it would be great if there was official support, but of course articles like this saying the Ouya is dead.. bla bla.. doesn't help matters..

I would like to make a simple, fun game using C2 and put it up on the system. I have a free app idea I want to do as well, a utility that i think will be useful.. right now its just a matter of finding the time to do the digging.. but when i do have the time, i'm going to get'r done
