  • Hi,

    I hope everyone is well.

I've searched the forum for how to overlay a graphic while using the camera (like snapchat)

I'd like to be able to put a still png image (with alpha background) over the camera picture, so when a user takes a photo the image looks (i hope) like it's there when the photo was taken.

Any ideas? can this be done?

    Thanks

    Mark

  • Hi,

My first completed game, I wouldn't have been able to finish it without the excellent forum members here.

A big thank you to all those that helped.

  • Hi

Interesting, will give that go thanks, the only problem I can see with that is the scroll to feature will centre my main player sprite in the centre of the whole screen still, so when he goes near the edge with the controls I'll only see a small amount of the right hand side of him.

I really need the centre of the screen for scroll to, to be the centre of the play area.

Sorry if this is not written well, I know in my head what i'm trying to say

  • Hi Everyone,

I've finished my first game and will be uploading it very soon, but I'm back working on a game I'm doing as a personal thing for love.

I'm trying to recreate an old game called "Lords of Chaos", but I'm stuck on this:

If you see the RPG image above, the screen has 2 halves, one is the playable area the sprite moves around in.

The other is where all the controls and features are.

I've tried to recreate the split screen by using a solid wall, but because my sprite moves around - on touch touch screen the sprite moves there (not platform) when it hits that anchor solid the sprite seems to ride up to the top of the screen.

The other problem I have with just a solid wall there is that the sprite has scroll to, so when it gets close to the wall he's half off the screen.

Is there a way to split the screen and make the 'game play' area limited to just that area, meaning the sprite will also scroll to the middle of that area and not the whole layout area.

The other part of the layout would then have all those buttons and controls.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Hi,

Sorry, I really thought I'd completed the game, I tested onSamsung Android using XDK, apk and it works fine, runs fast and doesn't crash.

I've just been testing it on a cheap android phone pixi 4 = CPU Quad-core 1.3 GHz CPU Core 1.3 CPU speed 1300.0 MHz

And if I'm lucky I can get to play level 1 from the main menu screen, when I do get to level 1 it runs really slow. then crashes and goes back to home screen.

Because it crashes in different places, home screen, loading screen, level 1, I can't pin down what the problem is.

I'm guessing my game: 90mb, memory use 197mb, events 3097 is using too much for it?

Screen size 640,360 and I use a png background at that size on each level.

I did minimise it on XDK not sure if that would cause such a problem.

If my game is too hungry for cheap phones, do you know if I can select only powerful phones when submitting to android app store?

    Any advice would really help.

    Thanks

  • The save / load works on the phone, I'm sure I gone about it all the wrong way, but I've got the result in the end.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Thanks,

I done some tests and because the sprite is the global I can't select it like I would a normal global.

So I took your idea about saving variables but I tried 'load game' on start of layout and 'save game' when the sprite for button 2, 3, 4 is visible etc.

So far that's working and saving everything including the stars, I'm going convert to apk now and will report back in case this helps someone else in the future.

Thank you for all your help.

  • Ah,

Thanks, so as an APK on android does the local storage still store as browser data if the game doesn't require the browser?

I think I know what the problem is then, I'm using a sprite with global (because all my other normal globals have to reset each level) the sprite global remains unaffected.

But I don't think the local storage likes the sprite global?!

I have about 20 instances on that sprite global, eg: Level 2 button visible, Level 3 button visible and so on.

Would I need to make a local storage (key) for each of the 20 instances or should I have not used the sprite?... gulp.

I'm opening up another construct 2 and will try testing different ways.

Thanks so much for your help.

P.s run layout is the same a preview?

  • Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I thought local storage would allow the person to play a level and get a star.

Then when they close the app/game down and come back to it later the local storage remembers that the player got a star.

I thought web storage is for browers, eg: If I'm previewing on my PC.

How would local storage work on preview? eg:

When I click preview the game loads in and everything is reset, no star.

I play the game and win the star.

But in order to close the game down I have to press x to close browser.

But to load that game back I need to click preview and it clears everything when it loads.

Are you saying that it shouldn't be clearing each time?

    Sorry,

    Thanks

  • Hi Everyone.

After 2 months I'm not on the final bit of my game, local storage.

I've followed instructions to create a local storage for the game but when I've converted the game to apk for android it didn't save it.

I then tried a different tutorial on local storage, converted and still didn't work on the android phone.

Before I keep going trying different ways, is there a way for me to see if I've done it correct using the preview on my PC?

Once I know I've done it right then I can at least work out there's a problem between Cordova and intel XDK.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Many thanks, I did see something else talking about that but thought it was only for webgames and not for android or iphone.

    I'll have a good read.

    Once again many thanks

  • Hi,

I've almost finished my game and wanted to put a link to a website, I'd like the user to touch an image and then the webpage opens on their mobile device.

Is this possible on construct 2?

    Thanks
