    While the gold rush has peaked and on it's way down. We shouldn't forget that it's still a different market with over saturation of lower quality products. Even so this does not mean that by default the PC is still the go to platform. By far the PC is still the most dominant and over saturated of quality products. It is by far going to be harder to get noticed on PC to make money than on a still growing sector of the market.

  • 4 days.... not for me. Good luck. I think this shuold have been posted at the start of gamejam. Your asking for some one to write a plugin for phonegap. You might be better off going to the phonegap forum and the plugin guys there. They are more familiar witht he setup and can probably get it going faster. Not that there are some here who couldn't. Rojo, Velo and other. but phonegap coders have the best shot for such a short deadline

  • YEEEESS PLEASE. Get the Gamepad going. Especially with the Ouya and Gamestick around the corner. Really wan't these compatible to work soon :) I'm good until april. I don't even get one until then :D But I certainly would like to minimize the transition from by tablet android to Ouya :)

    If gamestick had better performance than the already medicore performance of the Ouya, then it might be good.

    Not likely. As the Gamestick uses power supplied from the TV HDMI and no heat sink and same primary chipset. It's likely that it's running power will be limited to the same mobile performance. While yes the Ouya performance is coming out underwhelming it is in the position to have better than standard mobile performance. Will it. Well time will tell.

    Let's wait when the market share goes well for OUYA or Gamestick

    Hopefully, but even if these don't the motion has started. An important factor that is often over looked is that Palm and Blackberry started the smartphone. however neither of these companies stand at the top of the hill for either of there work or software. Instead Apple swept in leveraging there fanbase and popularity at the time, but really managed by introducing the number one factor that sub culture miss. Making the IOS as easy to use as possible. Such an oversight most of the time :( far too often people think it's the product itself that matters when in fact it's the people using it.

    So let's hope for the best.

    Yes they are. However, it's not calculated. It's flapping there arms in hope they can fly. They let there own wants cloud what shuold be made rather than what the consumer really wants. I started touching on this above in other posts. The Wii succeeded by 1 part price, 1 part providing an experience not played any where else and 1 part natural human interface. While both devices are on the price point, they both fall flat on there face in the other too. No not caclculated at all. They are hoping that providing cheap hardware with games found on console 10 years ago(prior to ds and wii) that the price and developers will push to success. however that's not likely to happen. pity. I am hower still looking forward to the Ouya regardless of the pessemistic sounds. To me it really is the the ball starting to roll. It may take another decade for an avalanch.

    Interesting. But I have mixed feelings about this android on T.V notion. Just because it sounds cool doesn't mean its going to be a success. If you have a phone already you don't need to buy one of these consoles. You don't here people walking around saying "I wish i can play a mobile game on my T.V". I Think for this to be successful you would have to make tremendous games exclusive to only the Ouya or GameStick. Kids will only buy real consoles. That's just the real reality. Look at the OnLive. That didn't do well at all. I mean this is great for developers but I don't find it that appealing to gamers. I remember when WebTV came out. It looked awesome but it never sold. Mobile games are not that great for hardcore gamers. I'm more or less ranting. I can see this being a success if they market it in stores like toys r us, game stop, walmart etc. Online isn't going to be enough.

    You totally should have mixed feelings and does sound cool. Often anything that tries something new or at least sounds new is often met with doubt or criticism. Successful or not. Anyone remember the companies calling out that Wii wold be Nintendo's last console? Regardless of peoples personal opinion. The console made tons of money for Nintendo and the third party developers who didn't slap a game on it. But instead made a game for it and focused on the games. The Ouya doesn't have a clear objective. Stating 1 part cheap for he masses, but slammed with the idea of classic gaming style. Ms Urmhan and team has no clear focus :(

    unfortunately your not dissociating from technology and software from the design of human usage. As an example the difference between XBOX and PC. The XBOX was just a PC tweaked to be a like a console experience.The same would be here. The android Hardware is being prepped and tweak for a console experience(which by the way is the problem of the Ouya and GS). However using Android does gain the advantage of familiarity and some games are very ready for console experiences. ShadowGun, Nova and many others. There developers who want to create a bridge between mobile and console. Also the singular software is someday going to be the norm. Android is currently set to be that norm. That could change however to another cross platform OS.

    Kids will want the "real" consoles..... actually this has been a major point of my contention from the day one kickstarter. The Ouya/GS is aimed to be a cheap console to compete in the living room; without the same named leverage. So why should they? Well go check the Ouya forums on the topic thread "controller critisim" It agree's with your sentiment of why would current console gamers migrate..... the truth is current fans(positive term here) don't migrate. This has been a proven study. The only people who use a sytstem are those who are either disatisfied or not a target of another product. again why the Wii did so well. While I agree with your line. It's not just kids it's people. So far the Ouya seems to be aimed at developers as both consumers and producers.

    mwa ha ha, OnLive. Future techonolgy that was just a weee bit too early. This technology will not make it until internet is everywhere and low cost. I said this 5 years ago I say it now. It's not practical until the until the cost strangle hold of mobile internet is done and mobile internet is similar to what you get at home. Until then. Will not make it. Plus the onlive model of pricing was just too different for people. Maybe if onlive service and the companies were closer hand in hand that would also be better. However it was pretty cool playing SF4 on my tablet. A lot of the time tech doesn't succeed because it's bad, but because of implementation and how user friendly it is and the demand for it.

    WebTV, AppleTV, GoogleTV, AndroidTV.... doesn't matter. It's all SmartTV. They all serve the same purpose. And it's all inevitably going to be SmartTV. Heck it's becoming harder and harder to find CRT. Sooner or later only SmartTV will be produced. So I suggest not pointing a specific OS. Might as well say that Computers have never been mass market because linux has never penetrated the mass market. When in fact that doesn't matter. People only really care about the computer and less about the OS. Now as SmartTV is someday going to be the only TV(heck I don't cable anymore, just internet for netflix) it's the OS that breaks the boundaries and is there for everyone that will really define TV. So Android feels like the winning candidate.

    oh. Let's not go into Hardcore vs Casual market. Let's just define it as the enthusiast and the masses and drop if from there. Enthusiasts do indeed spend more per individual. However it is the difference of $100 from 1 person or $1 from 10,000. Ouya should be focused on the masses. And it starts off doing so with price, but then mires the controller into the enthusiast realm. And as you very well stated above. Why would anyone buy an Ouya? I have no counter argument.

    Now of course this is not what you I think were refering too, but instead to the game types. once again this impression of information. I will take it that you may not be so following keenly on the evolution of mobile gaming. As at this time mobile gaming is making leaps and bounds forward and a lot quicker than any form of computing technology that has come before. SF4 Volt was a 2d game. However the company is now working on it's 3d version of SF4. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. With the srangle hold of the large coprorations and large developers. The IOS, Android and PC have been a bastion and thriving indie developers. While the media seems to only follow the big sales of retail and the larger companies. WHich is the report why PC sales or some other sales are low. What's really happening is that consumers on the PC are evolving. They no longer follow the same gaming criteria that the console and large developers push. Graphics are not king in the gaming world. That's an old motto that only the primarly console producers push. As it's the defining point of there selling platform. The rest of the gamers like good graphics. But it's not end all be all.

    As of now, more indie and smaller developers(all developers were small at one point) are producing games for cross platform. Sooner or later some set of games will come out in the next few years that will make mobile gaming a norm. How do I know this. Because IOS and Android have been showing a 1:1 path of the PC, just at an accelerated rate due to human ease of use :)

    Your not ranting, your providing excellent thoughts on discussion. I'm not correcting you as I'm sharing my own views :) Either as I see it after having been dissapointed that MY products that I thought do well. Would fail over and over. Success isn't about what an individual want's it's about the providing a non competitive product that the masses didn't know they wanted, but find it a want after realising it exists. Yellow Tail, Wii, DS, Sony Walkman(original), PS(original), Circus Du Soliel......

    As for your last comment. I can't agree anymore. As an online product it will fail to reach mass market. Hardware must be sold in stores to reach mass market. I also agree that the device needs to be sold by way of major chains. Walmart, Toy R Us. So on the same page :)

  • Kenhes got it. AFter months of working on this problem Ahsley put in the ForId. It is mandatory to make touch controls work correctly.

    The alternative is to use a drag and drop box, but it has a caveat to watch for :P

  • What about having everything shrink instead of growing. That way you dont need to worry about zooming. Then, if your npc creatures scale is too small, destroy them.

    ooh.. yeah. that works really well. Here I was concerened about a map that would be 100000000x100000000, but that method will work fantastic. I was so stuck about making things larger. I missed the easy solution of making everything else smaller :)

  • I have been working on stuff with Construct 2 for several days, forgive me, I have SO MANY QUESTIONS.

    1. I can't get enemies ("Sprite") to home in on what the player's ("Sprite2"'s) position was 2 seconds ago (instead they continuously move straight towards the player). I was hoping to do it with local variables but they appear to not be unique across multiple instances of the same event.
    2. When the player jumps on an astronaut text is supposed to be created showing how many points you got for the jump. I've narrowed this down to my "PointKillDisp - set text to" action (disabling it removes the problem) but have no idea how it's causing it.
    3. When the player jumps on consecutive enemies a multiplier text object (named "Multiplier") appears to show their bonus. It's supposed to change color randomly and rapidly but the wait action, loop events, and perhaps picking mechanics continue to be an enigma to me.
    4. This is not in my project file but I think the question is simple enough. Is there a way to make function parameters "static" like you can with local variables? In a different project I had a function using wait actions to rotate a sprite over time and I had to set every parameter to a static local variable to make it work. Given problem #1 this could be a major problem if multiple instances of the function are called at once.

    Thank you very much for your help. I used to do some very basic programming in python but a lot of this event stuff is not very clear to me.

    1. local variables belong to the group or event. If your function has local variables then any call to the function will use that local. What your looking for are instanced variables. These shuold be stored in the sprite that you want the event to happen on.

    4. Events can't have static parameters. It just isn't done in programmer and it's would be against the purpose of functions with parameters. Again if your requiring a static variable for a specific object. Then use instance variables on the object type or family. This way the function call can just use the variables from the object and doesn't require paramters.

  • Scaling a sprite isn't too much of a problem. But in design moving from simple cell organism to the size of a humpback well does. So that's I'm looking for some insight on how to handle this form of sprite size evolution.

    I thought maybe I could use one level of sprites, but no that won't work. However the other problem is still lofty.

    Which is handling all the hundred of cell organisms. THen evolving to a small fish. then medium fish, big fish, dolphin, shark, small whale.... so on until reaching cuthulu like sizes :D

    Hmm after writing that. I think what would work would be size steps. Where players can see the larger at 5 steps ahead as black background that are VERY large. Then as your figure grows have them scale down until they are only 2 steps. using steps as an abstract reference.

  • Hmm, sounds like a problem to me. As I understand it Platformers are supposed to be frame independent. Which by your description is indeed occuring. It seems the gravity is taking effect at the same period of duration, but with less FPS momentum not incrementing as high in the same amount of time. Maybe because motion is still rendered at a per step.

    I hope this problem get's fixed as it's a very critical platformer problem. Levels are entirely designed based around a dependable jumps :( Thanks for bringing this up :)

  • FYI, Platform(solid) and physics behaviours don't mix. Solid is a platformer object and doesn't interact with a physics object.

    Platformer to Solid

    I tried this already. I had my platform character trying to jump on a physics box. No go. I needed to either attach a solid behaviour or pin a solid sprite. Also Solid to Solid do no automaticlly provide collision stopping. That only occurs with Bullet/Platformer to Solids.
