  • You're right, but for my company (and me in personal), the first thing to check is stability, performance and capabilities. Ludei's cocoonjs looked like a viable way of getting good performance and great API, but they're lacking support, to say the least. We've been working on our first game using pixijs and Ludei's cocoonjs, and now we've found ourselves chasing after them, and have yet to get any response...

Stability, Performance and Capabilities are the main things I have to check before recommending anything to my company, and while Scirra capabilities are great, its integration with some good 3rd party plugins/adaptors is still lacking (not because of Scirra fault)

I think that sums up not only why cocoonJS has been (and should have been for a long time) deprecated, but also the fact relying on third party is good as long as the corresponding party are doing their job and listening, but not perfect.

As fir unity industry standard, it is an argument that is sort of offtopic in a way, sure industry standard can help assure comfort in the long term, but this is true as long as the said standard is supported, while unity should not be abandoned soon, I will recommand still having other knowledge if you want to stay in that professionnal universe (I do not for that matter, I plan more on something based on boolean logic and tool selecting, and for that C2 was the perfect choice for me #coolstorybro).

  • 1)yes

2)as far as I know, No

3)crosswalk can be used for in app purchases on android, but others will be more informed than me

  • newt I think he is referencing this :

  • I agree the debugger organisation could be nicer

However I do not see exactly how local variables could be displayed (you can have them just presents in some parts of the same level, or multiple times during the same tick when using groups), I think it should be improved.

As for the fps drop, not sure a lot can be done about this.

  • I think there are a lot of reasons for people to not change their mentality about 3rd party with C2:

First, some plugins just are not worth the time for some of them (I know I was personally only rarely interested in 3rd party plugins, most of them just are not for me, only the fgl plugin, the paster plugin, the clay.io plugin, and the spriter plugin caught my interest, from all the plugins I have saw)

Then you have the support problem, not only the plugin might not work anymore, but also you have to keep it up to date, and also, if you have a sort of advanced problem that needs a capx sharing to be solved quicker, a paid plugin will not help at all (and since most people asks for a capx, you see the issue, even just having the moveto behavior can lessen the amount of help by quite a lot).

I understand C2 relies on 3rd party and the community (every exporter other than html5, the SDK, the whole tutorial section of the website), however would anyone buy a plugin with no warranty that it will work in the long term, and so that they can make back their investment either in money or just satisfaction? Maybe, there are some 3rd party plugin that can be purchased after all, and some might say "we should not wait until scirra make them", I feel like it is more "it is hard to think clearly about what to do with them before having them".

For exemple, I do not know, and was not aware of (or do not remember), the multiplayer plugin you mentionned, when a feature is added to the update of C2, and that you can play around a little with it, you can start to feel it and imagine with it, without however, it is hard to concretely base something with a plugin name.

I could be wrong and the truth could be it is a "we want everything free! And officially supported hurr durr", but that seems kind of easy to be the whole truth.

  • That may explain why I have such troubles, as I have no experience with this graphic tools, I will continue to look into that, I am sure there is potential with them.

    Thanks. ^-^

  • I was playing around with the built-in webGL effects, notably the water one and some color changing ones, and I had some problem using some of them, like I could not understand their exact purpose or how to use them effectively (the ones with no parameters being pretty hard for me to wrap my head around, like "Burn"), that could be because I am not a native english speaker combined with the fact I am kind of stupid sometimes, but I just wanted to ask if other people had troubles with understanding some effects.

  • Well, there are comparison of numbers, and differents maths expressions

    https://www.scirra.com/manual/126/system-expressions

I guess you could do something with this, however, If you need precise results, keep in mind that computers can make rounding errors easily in some cases, not that I think it would be a big problem, but maybe it will (like for exemple a calcul should return 30, but will in fact return 29.99999999)

  • delaflaquita I put in "http://localhost:50000/" and it didn't work. It says, "Server not available".

You need to enable the preview over wifi inside C2

matrixreal it is not as easy as that, cocoonJS and Ejecta are actually engines, they are just not based off nor working like browsers engines, and so they lack some features (notably every form control, but not only), also while ejecta is open source , cocoonjs is maintained by ludei, and they have troubles so their focus is not what it should be (I think they are trying to have an investor so they can get up again, but it does not seem to bode well for them).

Crosswalk is chrome for android combined with you game, as an apk with some API access (so based on an open source browser engine, an maintained by companies with a assured future before them), phonegap is basically just the game communicating with the webview of the device and the APIs (basically it runs on the integrated browser engine on all android and iOS devices, however it is not that great until android L and iOS8).

Also all of them supports canvas2D, to be exact, if webGL is not possible, canvas2D will be used as a fallback

Webgl tends to be faster, except in some particular cases, so it is recommended to let it on, but you can set it off inside C2 if you ever need it.

  • Ashley Now that the "precious CocoonJS" is deprecated, could this be a potential change to the physics engine in the short, mid, or long term?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I would assume you are talking about mobile exporters

I think cocoonJS has the better engine for physics (I think you can still select it in the C2 beta), but you run the risk of ludei completely breaking it once more and rending your work useless, it is a trade off.

And I am not sure if crosswalks supports yet facebook.

  • > I think this definition of Totalseconds is the definition of Date in most languages, so you should not need something else than the date for most cases, and there are solutions for that I think.

Aphrodite - How can I access the device date and time from c2? (I want a certain feature to run only once a day)

There is also an alternative via a plugin.
