  • I'd just like to give a reality check here.

HTML5 will be the new Flash.

When I released Flash games they were free.

Revenue comes from Mochi ads and I would earn around 80 -120 from this, mostly earned in the first 5 weeks while the game was in the New Releases page.

Small potatoes right? But that is what we can all expect when our Construct 2 games are ready.

We are not in the same league as the software houses that charge for their games.

Have you seen the quality of games on Steam costing just 1.99? They are superb.

So why am I aiming to get HTML5 games out for free?

Check out armorgames. Check out the number of downloads in their "popular games" section.

Kingdom Rush (a tower defense game) over 12 million plays.

Gemcraft Labyrinth (a tower defense game) over 11 million plays.

    That's big money.

Then you can have in-game purchases and so on.

So I can only say to people like Yann, the real world for gaming is quite hard as I found out myself the hard way.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Having a Marketplace will not affect Scirra and it's development at all.

In fact I'm sure that if Ashley sees a thriving community buying and selling engines and graphics, he will be pleased. This will attract more potential early adopters.

Look, if somebody buys a template and hardly works on it, it will never end up for sale. So clones are nothing to worry about.

For serious developers, having an engine as a base makes total sense. I have no ego when it comes to game release. It's all a business to me. If I didn't code the element where a tower chooses to fire on the closest/weakest/strongest enemy then what does it matter?

Producing a game that looks great and is entertaining is my responsibility.

To all coders, set up Paypal for payment, code an engine for a game type (you don't even have to make any graphics, just functionality).

Then charge $10 or whatever. I guarantee you will make more money selling to us in here than you would releasing a game.

If admin could just open a new "Marketplace" topic in the Construct 2 Forum we can get going.

For those wishing to code the whole game on their own they need never click on that topic.

If you want to see the potential of this just go over to the Gamesalad forums.

  • "BTW, MikeWhis, just out of curiosity how did you hear about us? I wouldn't have thought many Gamesalad users have PCs."

Hi Ashley. Believe it or not I bought a Mac specifically for Gamesalad, having previously released Flash games on the PC.

I soon returned to the PC after finding out that to release a Gamesalad game you have to pay $500 a year for a Gamesalad license and then the usual $99 per year to Apple.

HTML5 is the future which is the reason I have chosen Construct 2.

Going back to my opening post, my first project is a Tower Defence game. These are massively popular in the Flash world.

My task as a developer is to make each level as interesting and strategically challenging as possible. Having a template that contains the basic engine will let me concentrate on just that. Plus the graphics of course.

Don't be scared of average clones appearing. Only the best games sell.

Plus you coders will get some extra money.

There are guys on Gamesalad who have loads of templates for sale and I'm certain that they make more from selling to other users than they do selling their own games.

I'm not lazy - I've watched and read every tutorial here and am hungry for more.

But I have so many games I want to make!

  • Hi, Are there any plans to make a Marketplace area where us newbies can buy ready made base coding for a game?

I just came from the Mac Gamesalad forums where you can buy templates for a few dollars and then just change the graphics, add levels, music etc.

Would be a Godsend and timesaver for people like me!
