  • New version released..see first post.

    Thank you.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • However, remember that there is also an offline version which will continue to work.

Scirra still has to confirm this. Right now they said that you won't be able to edit your projects after your subscription ended. I think that goes for the offline versions as well.

  • I think the performance will be the same.

  • This question also bugs me for a while now. While we don't know what C3 will bring on the desktop export area, I'd also love to read some of the respected developers' opinion who published bigger, more complex games using C2.

  • no game for the moment, only undecided about purchase Construct 2 or Clickteam Fusion 2.5

Then my suggestion to you: right now, buy C2. The event system is far ahead of CTF 2.5's. However, if you can afford to wait more than half a year, then I'd think about CTF 3 or C3 (whichever suits your needs). Clickteam is currently improving CTF 3's event system, closing the gap between Construct and Fusion in that regard.

  • I suggest you wait for the beta and try it out first on a friend's tablet before buying one yourself.

  • I don't think we can expect that for the release version, but I'd be happy to have it in a future release.

  • X3M Thank you for that tutorial, I was just about to ask you for it. I'll check it out soon.

NN81 What kind of game you want to create?

  • understood.. one last question (sorry mi english), and the android export of Construct 2 build automatically the APK or only the html5 folder of the game?

You have to build the APK using a 3rd party tool (IntelXDK, PhoneGap, Cocoon.io) in Construct 2. Construct 3 will provide a simple, in-house cloud based APK build method.

  • C2 is currently on sale, and users with a C2 license will be given a reduction for the first year of a C3 subscription.

If you buy C2 now, you'll get your first year of C3 free (stated in the announcement blog post).

  • Scirra said on the forum that if the subscription won't work they would (logically) consider other options in the future. Unless Scirra evaporates instantly into nothingness, you don't have to worry about your projects. I think they would release a purchasable offline editor, etc..

But just as Elliott wrote, the subscription model will ensure that Scirra will be in the game with continued income and support. While I understand your thinking and feelings about this topic, I don't think that we have any reason to worry about that.

A free editor with no event sheet limitation and at least one export option for testing is something that will get hobbyists invested in the engine, the more developed their project - the more invested. That will then get them to pay for a subscription/exporters.

I hope Scirra considers the feedback users give on the forum regarding the free version's limitations. We don't know how limited it will be, but I also hope that they get rid of the event limit, force a splash screen and only allow non-cloud exporting into HTML5. That should help out developers who don't want to make any money, but just want to play around for their own enjoyment. I'm not sure how this would effect sales, but it would certainly increase the user base.
