  • I will try that out. Thank you. Will let you know how it goes.

I fixed the link. I did a lot of changes since this file but it gives the idea what I am doing.... I think.

  • DIALOG!! That is the word I am looking for. Dialog in the game. Will see if I can change the title again to reflect that.

I actually have a thought I am going to try. I think a layer, to keep them separate, of different text boxes of dialog. Then add an image point and call it "chat" on whatever. Then in the events, either based on time or score or something, the text comes up near that image point.

All i need is basic and that seems like it may work. Have to try.

  • Hello. Just three days left to get a working game passed in for class, and then finals next week. I wanted to know if it can quickly be done to make a boss (I have a sprite) to come down at a certain score (I need to work on that and will be following the steps from the shooter tutorial with the three ghosts). Say the boss comes from down the screen after, er, 500 points. Stays on the top of the screen moving randomly left and right until destroyed or player destroyed. If I can do this once, I can do it again at another score interval.

Thank you for your help and patience with me while i try and rush this.

Once school is done, I get to spend more time on Construct on my own time without being rushed. I think it is great so far.

This is a CAP I uploaded a few days ago for another post, if you need an idea of the vertical.

EDITED to fix title. Had "what" instead of "want."

  • Okay, I see my mistake. I am getting HOTSPOT and IMAGE POINT mixed up. I am thinking they are the same thing.

    Thank you!!

  • Thanks for checking. I did that when I made the ship and double checked my copy and the indicator is there. I did reclick it and now it works as your copy does. So now I am not sure why it did not work before. When you opened mine, did you not see the image hotspot there? Is there some way to confirm it takes when I click the spot?

    Thanks for confirming.

  • I changed the title of the post, to make it more clear. Just want to make short text appear in order to act as a conversation. For example:

Hero ship (captain): Time to blast our way through.

    Hero ship (member): Aye, aye.

Enemy ship: Think so, do you?

Either like bubbles/blocks or different colors to show different people talking (if from same ship).

Like an RPG style. I have been looking around but can not seem to find anything to what I am looking for. Looked at the "Mikey's RPG" but did not see anything there.

  • I attached my current file.

I am trying to get my bad ships to shoot using the method in this file:

They seem to fire but only on the left side of the screen. I increased the size of the enemy fire to see it easier. It is supposed to fire from Enemy001

Would anyone mind taking a gander and telling me where I am wrong?

    Thank you.

  • Because of the rush I am in (if you read my previous posts), while I am still searching around, what is an easy way to make chat bubbles/boxes in a scroller shooter? I want to see about making, using time increments am sure, conversations from people within the ship, their command, even some comments from enemy (eventually bosses too) ships.

I am still looking and trying things out, but because of time restraints, posting questions, after a few hours of searching, before I continue to search. I just got to make it through these two weeks and be done once and for all with DeVry. Then, I can take time and do things on my own. Just more history there for ya.

    Hope I explained it well.

    Thank you.

  • I have been doing some searches and tried pulling apart and reading the events, on some files like:

I am trying to just get stars from top to bottom of screen scrolling, for a space shooter. I made three stars of different colors but I can not get them moving.

Can someone point me to a star field tutorial or something that shows how to get started with some stars moving? Maybe tell me in steps how to make a simple one so I can try expanding from that?

Once that is done, I should be able to throw in other spacial objects like a derelict ship, planet, asteroid to show up less frequently and in random locations as well.

    Thank you.

  • The bit is, deadeye, is that DeVry has actually not left me with much time to learn anything useful. I was using Gamemaker on my own for a couple of days (before these current classes started) but never made it past the tutorials. Just not much time. I have been trying to toy around with Scirra but barely had time still. Now with even more work thrown at me, I got two weeks to get something made that is worthy to get me to pass these classes. Does not have to be anything grand. Just some ships, weapons, text for story, quests. If any of that is possible, that is what I am trying to aim for. I am going to be posting some quick questions to throw out there (after some quick searches) before I start spending some hours looking around, and then having to post them later. Hopefully they be all simple to answer.

  • Oy, that state. Despise driving in it.

I have done the Ghost Shooter. It took a bit to find places where some things were changed since the version the author used. When running it in debug mode, I get an error on the character when health hits 0, but regular run mode is fine. I skipped the sounds because I did not have them as they were not in the download or embedded in the example CAP file (assuming I could exports sounds, do not know). The video was quite understandable on getting the sounds to work.

Also, meant shooter scroller, as I need to have space ship battles. Also has to have some conversations, a quest, levels (either next map or hard baddies), and such.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Scroller, okay, I will look more into that then and try those links today. Thank you. Will keep you posted (no pun) on my progress.
