  • No problem, hope doing this gives you some of your own ideas.

  • Expand on ghost shooter, add new monsters, ammo limits etc etc. Itll teach you a lot beyond the tutorial. It helped me greatly and the best thing is, you already have lots of resources from the tutorials to use.

Or of course, expand on another tutorial, should help give you some idea for a project of your own, Goodluck.

  • (is it modeled after the F15, or the Mig 29?)

Its the F15, However due to me being awefull at sketchup, the shape isen't perfect.

newt - I did look into creating the game like this, and it bothered me, everything being so flat. especially the one sprite your always using, I understand thats the style but I guess its just not for me

  • Well I tried sketch up, Went far better than I ever thought, not perfect. However it does work perfectly and any problems with the images, the sprite is too small for you to see, so you don't notice anything between the three images while playing a game

This is the model I used to create the template, its very basic, but did the job, Obviously never used sketchup before, so spent all day figuring it out.

Thanks for everyones help/suggestions, very usefull.

  • Yeh I'm going to try sketchup, and if that fails, keep everything 2d for now, not exactly what I wanted, but its a start.

and deebee - Google 'CYBERMOTION 3D DESIGNER' you'll find it easily. gl

  • Well I was asked by someone how to create a menu, so I made a very basic example file for him, and I have decided to upload it, just incase anyone else was having a similer problem.

This file is a VERY basic menu system, showing how to link 2 layouts together, nothing fancy here.

Hope its usefull for anyone who was unsure about how to create this.

  • I've just messed with that 3D programme Chrisbrobs but its veryyyy unlikely I'm going to be able to create my plane, in this, just not capible of it at the moment, I'll learn to use it slowly but for now I'm going to keep it 2D.

And thanks very much for the offer to create it in 3d for me, however I want to keep everything In the game, created by me (however bad it may look, its my first game)

Its going to take a while but it'll be a nice learning process, I'll try and keep this post updated on how Its going from time to time.

  • thats close to what I'm looking for, what I came up with was similer, unfortinatly that picture dosen't look right, without making the picture 3D, on one side. if what I've said makes sense....

    Thanks for the try though

I think if I plan on using my own models I'm going to have to keep it 2d for now? I'm not totaly sure if Im capible of making them 3d

  • After a few days of slow development, creating models etc etc I've deiceded to show you guys what I've come up with thus far. It is by no means even close to being finished, but this demo does show the basic concept of the game and gives a good idea of how the game will turn out.

Note that nothing in this demo is finalized and I may change it depending on how other parts of the game develope. One thing that I'm definatly not keeping is the health bar, I just needed a sprite with 8 frames to set up my health system.

The level does end, that position is where I intend to put in a boss fight (Each level will end with one, only about 30 seconds of the level is really made properly)

This is my first game, and also my first time using things like sketchup, photoshop and Illustrator so the quality is currently not as I'd like it, but its a start.

    Controls:

F to fire, rest is simple

If you find any bugs or have any criticisms I'd love to hear them.

  • @ aclonegeek

Skip through this tutorial, itll show you how.

Basics - Click the project button in construct (On the home tab) (next to the button to show animator, properties etc) and right click on where it sais layout, select create a new layout. Drag that to above your first layout, the layout at the top is the one it always starts with.

Then just place sprites, and under the event select system, and actions such as >On Click > Go to layout 01 or w/e its called.

    Hope that helped somewhat.

  • blind1992: uhmmm sorry, I couldn't complete the second part of the tutorial because of lack of time( and my laziness). I barely get some time to mess with Construct nowadays.

I was going to post the completed source code but since you've implemented nearly all the features, I don't think I need to, but still if you want you can download it here

(see the last reply on the thread)

Shame, would have been great to see a completed tutorial, but I also learnt a lot from developing this past what the tutorial shows, so thanks for the great start, I'm going to continue adding to this. I plan to develope the ship animation a little further, possibly add a few levels if I get the time, different NPCs etc.

  • Try Construct 3

  • I recently started using construct, just to try it out (I haven't tried anything like this before) and I went through a couple of tutorials such as the 'Ghost Shooter' and 'crazy Robbie' basic platformer tutorials. These tutorials are great, very informative. So I moved on to another tutorial I found on the Wiki named 'Vertical Shooter' and I completed what The Wiki linked me, and was very unhappy that I could not find a second part/completed tutorial. So I decided to try and figure it out myself, and add some features not included in the example game.

And This is what I came up with (Sorry for the poor text graphics, I'm not too great with photoshop so I used a generator)

    <img src="http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/8923/screen3qz.jpg">

I added such things not shown in the tutorial like the star field background, Menu screen with animated buttons, final score and the NPCs shooting back. At one point I did have a progress bar which showed level completion but I decided not too include it because I diden't really have the time to create more levels.

Just thought I'd post this, because the tutorial is great, and its a shame there is no completed guide (or one that I could find)
