  • Just got this error today as well on a fresh Win7 64 Install. Never had the error before until a MS Update was applied, and the error doesn't seem to be an issue unless you install that update then install construct.

  • Well really there is a lot of 2D games that use it as well. Resizing a rock for example, to add variety instead of having them all the same size, without having to draw another one.

  • I selectively scale my graphics to fit within the ram I am aiming for. I will never reduce something to 50%, because that's just too low and results in ugly visuals.

However, reducing by 10% or so here and there, is much more difficult to notice and adds up.

[quote:1jonkr52]Like what games, care to name them?

Virtually every 3D game on consoles and PC reduce and then stretch their textures constantly. Level of detail, fitting into lower specs and other reasons. It's required to fit a wide range of specs, as well as fitting withing the lower ram the consoles have vs. PC.

This is one possible solution. The way the zoom is rendered is causing inaccuracies so maybe you can use this method?

It's still not a perfect 2x2 pixel resolution, but it's better than the zoom method. Might need to request a pixel doubling feature or something, as there doesn't seem to be a flawless method (that I can see).

  • The reason I ask is on their site "Steamworks" they ask you to send them a demo of your game and if they choose it to be on Steam they send you their SDK (Anti-piracy, other tools) so how would I incorperate that sdk into a construct program if I don't have access to the source code?

Right, but that's not them asking for your source code, that's asking you to add their code to your source. Which brings me back to the reason why most publishers won't take a game made in a program like Construct -- they would likely ask you to remake it in a proper language.

Your best bet is to go with a small company that publishes indie games. (And yes, Steam does publish indie games, but they are all written in a language).

  • No, Valve wouldn't ask for the source code. Generally, a company will want the source if they are going to be the ones doing anything with it. If you are just going to them to use their platform, all they would want from you is the royalties and a quality product.

Updates released on Steam for non-valve games are submit to them by the developer. The way they update that stuff doesn't require the source code.

  • How is that a "better" way than having them all in a nice neat group and avoiding even messing with UID?

  • Backbreaker is developed by the company that created the Euphoria engine, used in games like GTA 4.

    Very fun, very pretty

But I'm not american. So can I understand american football?

Yeah, I am well aware of Euphoria. Cool tech!

And yeah, you'll understand it just fine. In fact, since Backbreaker doesn't even have official teams and just focuses on the game, probably even more so than Madden or similar.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Yeah, you'd be much better off trying for a publishing deal, but even then it won't be like your game will be sitting on shelves next to the latest and greatest.

The best goal in my opinion, is to try and get your game on a platform like steam.

  • Well, two of those mentioned pretty much have a remake even though not really

Death Rally = Scrap Metal (top down racing/combat) http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/029/029604.html

Gridiron = Backbreaker (physics based football) http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/958/958004.html

  • Almost no company will take a game made with a tool like Construct, I am sorry to say. At least, no professional studio not run by former hobbyists. They would want the source, which in this case would be the cap ... they're not going to do anything with that even if they go get Construct themselves.

This has been my experience with a similar situation regarding MMF2. If a company shows any interest at all, first thing they will ask is if you can get someone to rewrite the game for you in a proper language. Extremely rare (talking lottery here) for them to offer to do this for you.

  • Bioware does this ... and it's annoying. If you bought Dragon Age CE, you got armor for both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2. If you bought and beat the Mass Effect Iphone game (which was awful), you unlocked something for Mass Effect 2.

If you want to add something, do DLC or an Expansion. Don't force people to get a game they probably don't want (or they would have bought it already) for something added.

If we're talking freeware then this whole topic is irrelevant
