i just started working on a little pokemon-esc battle game type thing, always wanted to try making some iso fighter type game.

havn't had a lot of time to work on much lately.

  • cant wait to try this, looks slick

  • you need an effect like colorize (or whatever was used on the layer in this cap), on a layer, with the objects on that layer being sprites which are a circular alpha gradient.

  • yea it gives the the n'th root depending on the denominator ("n" in this case) raised to the power of the numerator.

  • they're wrong, make something YOU find fun and you'll have a lot less trouble finishing. it's not about what other people think, because in the end, no matter what the game is as long as people stay entertained playing its going to be a success.

  • it's easier, it has nothing to do with nostalgia, it's also easier to make something look realistic. braid for all its qualities looks like crap to me. the art is nicely "rendered" but looks terrible. everything looks stuck to the screen surface and has a generally "ugh that doesn't look right" feel, HD 2d stuff hits an artistic uncanny valley somehow. pixel art leaves a lot to the imagination, and a bunch of pixels can represent something very complex that our mind fills in, two dots are eyes rather than realistic eyes being eyes, and if they're drawn wrong being the eyes of a drunkard. It really doesn't change much to have pixel vs real. another world did a great job feeling real with relatively simple gfx, small changes= big differences. it's the same reason we see a lot of animated movies or cartoons or anime simplifying the way characters and forms look. sure it could be realistic looking, but then it would be way harder to make everything look right, and it would also be harder to relate the characters to someone familiar or ourselves rather than to what they physically look like.

btw this looks great, somehow reminds me of lyle in cube sector even though the games look completely different and have different gameplay.

LoL, they add new stuff every 2 weeks which is great. free2play means devoted devs it seems.

diddy kong racing, just bought a used cartridge

other than that, haven't played much lately.

  • gamma is only possible through shaders, brightness is as lucid said, a big black square.

  • if you feel a player gets bored playing your game for 80 hours don't you think you'll get bored making a game that long? which will take you 30x as long as the game is in length?

Nobodies trying to hold back your grandiose ideas. but imagine this for a second. if you were planning to start creating music, would you make a short 4 minute piece or a 3 hour orchestral piece?

don't get carried away by ambition. it's good to have, but use it to your advantage making something that a little more, completable.

depending on the quality and look of the game, and knowing that no one really has made a 80 hour 2d game, id say you could charge 10$. i know i probably wouldn't pay more unless something REALLY blew me away.

  • have you tried testing to see if the problem reproduces itself in a fresh .cap yet?

  • c+?

As long as your creative and have some decent math and logic abilities making a sonic type engine in construct is 100% possible, and it'll probably be a lot easier than if you tried to do it in game maker.

It's not easy, but it's completely possible. construct isn't going to limit you, but your abilities might, as would be true with any language, game making program etc.

IMO construct would be best suited.
