  • PixelRebirth, you're very very cool!!! Image

I've just visited your wordpress blog and downloaded the Crypta game! It's Awesome!

Great gameplay and looks like really commercial game!

Too much praise there, just too much. Hehe.

If it's possible could you explain me how did you make a such thing or may be show an example?!

I want the same mechanics like in your Crypta game! Image

Of course I'd be happy to help you setting up your own puzzle game. Would you mind sharing a cap of your current progress (either openly or PM)? That would be a good starting point to do some of my "amazing" explaining.

By the way I've already made design of pieces, but how to make the game mechanics I don't know...

    <img src="http://i35.tinypic.com/o52haq_th.jpg">

Those are beautiful! That'll be a cute puzzler!

  • I dowloaded your example (here)... But I would like to make mechanics like in The Treasures Of Montezuma game (i.e. possibility to select pieces with cursor, move them from the left to the right and from the right to the left, and if there is 3 or more pieces together they must be destroyed, etc).

Yes well, this is just a little editing I did for mattdubs right there. No use of an array to be found I'm sry. I don't know exactly about the Montezuma game, but from your description my Crypta engine works pretty much like that. You do select stuff with the mouse and can switch horizontally and vertically. Destroying works of course... plus spawning of new blocks. All of that.

Apart from the array usage, all information is there in mattdubs' thread in order to make a working matching/destroying engine. Will take a little effort to read into it and check out the various caps provided. If you really really want to see it I guess I could share a basic version of my puzzle engine.

  • Does anybody know how to make this using Array object?

Actually I'm making use of an Array in my puzzle engine. It's just for the playfield creation, definition of playfield size and placement of new spawning blocks. It has nothing to do with the matching of 3 or more blocks (well it's used to pick rows/columns in the matching events too). I thought about doing it all with an Array, but didn't go through with it, since the approach I already had was just so easy.

BTW the card game object might work for this as well.

For real? I never thought about that possibility...

  • Arsonide you are really making the wet dreams of some people around here come true!

That plugin sounds uberuseful and I can't wait to try it out. On another note, I've toyed a little with the Perlin Noise plugin. It surely has great possibilities, but didn't find a way of including it properly in any of my game concepts. Not YET.

  • It requires AdvanceCamera.csx, now where do I get that? And yes, I already have that one Pix. Seems to be like Diablo to me lol.

You don't know about the wonders of advanced camera plugin yet?

  • Oh since we're in a sharing mood:

It's not NPC but still RPG-related. So this might interest some reading this. TheJanMan might already have it though.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • The answer to this question isn't easy. It hugely depends on what you want your NPC to be able to do. In order to mimic a pseudo-reaistic behavior, where the NPC will randomly move, react to things like monsters or do certain things at day/night time, you'll have to have a very solid concept. And a lot of breath.

Combining stuff like RTS + LOS doesn't sound like a bad idea, although it might be challenging to handle. Again it's hugely depending on what level of detail for your NPC behavior you're trying to achieve.

For starters I'd stick with a rather simple NPC behavior. Sorry that I can't really give a more profound answer to your question.

  • Yes, I'm a member as well.

So if you're a gamer and fellow construct user, join the group and let us kill some zombies together.

  • Nice mood you create with those effects! Simplistic, yet effective. Reminds me a little of stuff lokijki would create, which isn't a bad thing by any means. Although it probably doesn't run too fast on lower end machines.

Note: I probably won't make an Actual Awesome Bot Adventures.-edit-wait I now I'm thinking about it.

    Yes pls. DO IT!

Competitions are a beautiful thing. And because I noticed a lack of those precious challenges around here, I thought I might just as well start my own to spice things up a little.

    Theme

You might have guessed: it's about decay. Take it literally, make it about rotten and decomposing things or interpret it differently, dealing with the topic on a more artistic level. Let your imagination run wild.

    Rules

      • Your entry must relate to the chosen theme.
      • Your entry must be an original game created for this compo.
      • You may only submit one game.
      • You can work as a team. However, prizes will only be awarded to one single person.
      • Since this is a Construct challenge, you'll have to use Construct to create your entry.

    Wanna join?

In order to join, you need to make a new thread in the Your Creations forum, marking it as entry for this competition in the subject with the following tag: []

After you did so please reply here with the direct link to your game's thread.

Entrants will be accepted until the first day of December.

    Prizes

I thought about it briefly and because I'm not able to pay you 1000 bucks or award you something amazing, some Steam indie games will have to do.

1st place: Machinarium OR Aquaria OR Trine

2nd place: Zeno Clash OR AAAAAA...! A Reckless Disregard For Gravity

(provided by Sagal, so clap your hands for him!)

3rd place: Hammerfight OR Foreign Legion: Buckets of Blood

So winners will be choosers. The reason is simply because some people might already have certain games. And be aware that you will need a steam account in order to receive a prize!

    Jugdes

The following community members will be judging the entries:

    PixelRebirth Sagal Aeal5566 SuperV

Judges will be given two votes, which they will give to their favorite entries. You can't give both votes to the same entry. To be frank I grant myself a little extra here, since I will be having one additional vote (so three overall) and if there's some kind of draw, I'll decide who comes out on top.

If you want to apply as a judge please do so by writing me an email or a PM. There's just one restriction: Judges must have at least 100 posts on the forums here. This is just to ensure they are experienced Construct users to a certain extent and somewhat active in the community.

    Deadline

The competition will officially start on the 1st of December. After that date, no more entrants will be accepted. You may already start with your game of course when you read this, but be aware that the whole thing might be blown off if it doesn't spark enough interest.

The deadline is Sunday 10th January 2010. So the competition runs a little longer than a month, considering the holidays I'm sure people will appreciate some extra time.

Projects being worked on so far:

    Urban Zombies

    by newt

    You've Got Red On You

    by partymetroid and ShadeKirby500

    All feedback is welcome!

  • Thanks guys!

When did TDC start allowing Construct games into competitions? Last I heard it was okay to submit them to the site but they were still only allowing Klik-made stuff for compos.

I believe TDC is pretty open nowadays to all sorts of game-creation tools. Not only those of the Clickteam brand. At least that's my understanding.

  • My idea somehow is putting it in 1 whole layer, like when I press a button for the menu, everything in that layer appears or something, or is even created. Is it even possible to hide/unhide all stuff in a layer?

Sure. Check out the layer actions of the system object.

Clicking on lets say the Item Screen, makes the Item Screen layer appear so yeah. It should also pause the game somehow when press the key that makes the menu screen appear.

There are different approaches to pause a game. Try setting the timescale to 0.

Btw, did you see that PM I sent you? I'm also in the chat right now, if you cared to briefly join.
