  • I think we would get more participants if we had a schedule people can check and plan ahead for. It won't have to give the theme away and it could be something like: [quote:38egp3he]Tuesday 18th of August: 10 minute theme check at 9:50 GMT, competition starts at 10:00 GMT. Submissions accepted no later than 11:10 GMT

It would be much more structured.

  • DS, if you can't find some good games, make em ;P http://www.dsgamemaker.com/

Although to do that you'd still need something that lets you run homebrew like R4 or something...

Edit: Ah! he might want to look at the GP2X actually http://gp2x.co.uk/ very awesome handheld linux console/pc and comes with all the dev ware to make stuff for it as well. Although, if you wait for their other product, Open Pandora http://openpandora.org/, it's going to be even better =D

Edit 2: Seems Open Pandora is selling right now, just limited due to it still being updated, but this is probably all you need to hear [quote:1of6cahb]How powerful is it?

It is by far the most powerful handheld in the world both in terms of raw CPU power and 3D graphics capability, it will be able to handle things such as Firefox3 or Quake3 with ease.

  • Pretty sweet, could maybe imagine an army of orcs storming a castle or something medieval/fantasy like that

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • It ran alright for me, not too smooth but still playable.

    Specs:

    Intel P4 2.8ghz

    128mb Intel(R) 910GL gfx card

    1.2gb ram

    Windows XP

  • We lost to Scum

    Aw, thats a bit harsh

  • 1.) I load animation on runtime? Like if I were coding can loading sprites from a sheet.

2.) How would I go about doing a achievement system? Basically I want it show an achievement (pop out) when I do something. If I do achievements, it would show the first achievement, then the second one.

1.) I'm not sure but I think you'd have to load images/frames individually as animation frames if you want to do it at runtime.

2.) Create a seperate event sheet that you can include into each layout where you want to be able to see or achieve them, flag the achievements as "achieved" and then display it using a pop up message or a global custom sprite and text or something. For the sprite & text idea, it would be easy with containers I think. Not sure about an easy way to show achievements in order besides an array or stack of some sort though..

    Hope that helps =)

  • Thank you for the input, that was a concern, especially with the Renaming. I've got an idea for a file cabinet like design, where each page has a tab at the top you click on to change to it.

Ah, that sounds much better =)

And for other suggestions all I could imagine extra is maybe minimizing to taskbar (although, I forget if Construct supports this) to allow simply right clicking the icon and selecting "Run App" to only bring up an edit box to run an already existing alias. There would of course need to be other options like "Open Main Window" and "Exit" probably

  • It's pretty interesting and I understood what the point was, but having all the boxes on the same screen even with the step by step instructions was still fairly complicated. Maybe a more user friendly way to make it is where the settings are in seperate layouts or popup windows from a main selection of options?

What is shiva? Can you provide a link?

And yes, i been hearing blender has a high learning curve, but once you master the interface it's pretty funand easy to use ;D

    Check my post

  • Maybe take a look at these (free) programs:

-Not sure you'd like this one but, Reality Factory (http://www.realityfactory.info/cms/)

-ShiVa is a bit processor heavy, but it looks nice (http://www.stonetrip.com/)

-If want to make a fps game, use SilentWalk (http://www.silentworks.hu/index.php) Its not in development anymore due to the developer moving onto a new game maker thats less "fps only" and open source, but whats already there is probably much better than FPS Creator

-and if you happen to own a mac, Dim3D (http://www.klinksoftware.com/) looks awesome (editor is mac only but at least the games run in windows)

For ease, ShiVa looks like the best one to use, but the free version only lets you share your game with other people who have ShiVa or ShiVa player I think. Other than that, its completely free

However, if you want to make any type of 3D game, and make it exactly how you want, id recommend learning to program in something easy that still ends up looking fairly decent. For example Blitz3D (http://www.blitzbasic.com) or its free alternative called Ninfa3D (http://www.mysticrealitystudio.comuv.com/index.php?p=3_1) engine, its amazing and is also constantly in development (Even supports builtin physics, shadows and shaders )

  • So that makes you a fully qualified liar?

  • I could see this ChipIn model in Construct 2.0, but then again, 2.0 is going to use SDL isn't it?

If so then I believe it should be easier to port to linux, and the community will probably have attracted members who can do this themselves or at least find a way to run it and created exe's well under Wine.

Either that, or VMWare Player (free) will become much more capable of using DirectX in its emulations or have hardware graphics card support and Construct will run fine inside that.

Basically, I think that if and when this ChipIn model is used, the main features that are requested such as Linux and an internet plugin will be complete anyway even if the Scirra team aren't responsible for it.
