American pride is blind for the ugly side of coin.
I can assure you we're well aware of these things. And some of us even care.
But the fact that innocent civilians have been killed or jailed does not make up for the fact that Bin Laden was still at large and avoiding justice for his crimes. As regrettable as the past ten years of war have been, none of those lives lost can serve Bin Laden's punishment for him. For justice to be realized, the guilty must serve. And though he may not have had as big a role in 9/11 as he or the media claimed, and though he may have been more of a scapegoat or figurehead, he was still accountable for his role.
And even though Bin Laden's death doesn't justify the innocent lives lost and innocent people jailed since then, it is at least better to have finally brought him to justice than to never have found him at all. He is after all one of the main reasons that we were landed troops the middle east in the first place. So now he's dead, it wasn't all for nothing. A small consolation, and not very comforting, and I'm sorry I can't think of anything better.
