It's a fair point you make. As a customer i guess i have that luxury, but i suppose i also evaluate the software with a different set of criteria then you the developer. Please remember though you market your software at non programers like me then say i "ignore practical realities of software development".

I'd be willing to bet most people here use Construct in spite of it being html5 than because it is html5. I'm here for the event system. A lot of posts have been made vindicating the choice to use html5, but i feel regardless Scirra is still a bit blind to its down sides and the on going issues it presents. Just my opinion.

  • The C3 bata is limited to 40 events at the moment, you can load larger projects but not edit them.

You can't save a project in C3 then expect it to work in C2, they are not backwards compatible.

Was about to suggest that the game jam be related to benchmarking somehow, but it feels like I've said that before.

I think most people have just accepted by now the tradeoff between performance and ease of use. It may not be in their best interest to have a jam which could potentially focus on a downside and maybe highlight for some that Construct isnt always as fast as people think it should be. They may end up not subscribing.

  • Yes its an infinate loop. The foreach will happen until all the sprites are checked, but each check creates a new sprite so the loop never ends it just eats up your resources.

I can confirm what Havok has said about the "Weather Demo". On my iMac it runs very badly, yet no problems in windows under parellels.

Is the 10 votes limit based on something?

I'm thinking of when I am voting for 10 things (or give some up to 3) now and later down the line (months from now) there are new brilliant ideas, do. we get another 10 votes?

You can get your votes back by clicking on something you've already voted on (unvote?) , so you can then revote on something else.

The idea i think is so they find the most asked for feature.

I have to agree that Scirra is all about the waiting, wait for this feature, wait for this announcment, i've been patiently waiting for C3 and got C2 in a browser, now have to wait again for it to become something more, only now you have to pay to wait.

Also does the build service extend to desktop support or is it simply mobile? I can't remember desktop support being addressed since C3 was announced.

I don't know what their roadmap would look like but i bet getting C3 working on "internet of things" devices may be a priority so we can code on our toasters in morning while making breakfast.

Seriously though, I think a roadmap is important with a subscription model, it's hard to subscribe at the moment hoping that they might add feature x at some stage in the future, as C2 in a browser isnt really cutting it.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Theres a game in development called fara and the eye of darkness (formally fara way). Anyway there was some animated .gifs posted some time ago showing how they did enemies chasing the main character which i think could be applied here. I can't find the link anymore, they may have removed them, but what they did was use line of sight and if it was clear then move enemies towards player, then when line of sight was lost the player would drop invisible sprite waypoints, the enemy would move towards the waypoint then check for line of sight again, if it found it it would move to the player again, if not it would move to next waypoint etc.

It's also a bit ironic that it's not the webgames (with the exception of There is No Game) or mobile games that they're using to advertise Construct but larger "made for desktop" games whos developers have all left because the product didnt support what they needed for those games to be a bigger success. Yet it's the mobile/web games that they seem to be making Construct for and focusing all their efforts?

Davioware summed up my own feelings.

Also can't help but think their ultimate goal of having a complete package in a browser is to make themselves look attractive to a big company like Google or Microsoft to buy them out.
