Please tell us how you will be using C3 if you will be subscribing and if you are a serious game designer, small time game designer, hobbyist, educator or using the engine for some other purpose?

Also please tell us if you are a long time C2 user or new to game design or switching from some other engine to a Sciirra engine?

mammoth If he asks you for your social security number and home address, don't give it to him!

lamar You're out of control. The only reason you would want to know that information about someone is if you think they are too inexperienced to have that opinion, or if you plan to discredit them. Otherwise, it wouldn't matter. I remember you trying to do the same thing to me. If he likes C3 and wants to buy it, let him.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Congratulations! I'll check out your link.

  • I was just trying to suggest caution and I think it's relevant to the changes Scirra is making.

zenox98 I already posted same info in Open-Topic section, where it should be. why is this here? Has nothing to do with C3.

Sorry, I didn't see your topic in the Open forum. I posted this in the C3 forum as soon as I got an email from Goo. I was a closed beta tester for it. I knew a person who worked on it. I think it's relevant because of how similar it is to C3. Btw, some of the complaints people have with C3 are the same they are were having with Goo.

If you don't like C3, then move on. Is it hard to comprehend ?

Did I say I didn't like C3? It seems you are the one who's having trouble comprehending.

  • Goo is a 3D browser based HTML5 game engine that recently declared bankrupt and is now trying to sell it's 3-d tools. It also has a subscription model.

    Just FYI.

  • > I played around for an hour with the C3 alpha, and I did not like it very much. I had to install Chrome (which I hate), and C3 felt a bit "childish" to me? Is that the right word?

    >

I had recently referred to Construct as "kiddy" to my partner in game development. I think it's intended for a younger audience who can't/won't learn a programming language, so it comes off as a kid-friendly alternative, although adults benefit from it as well. It's a nice piece of tech for the right audience.

C3 definitely feels like it's aimed at children.

    My first impressions:

    • It's not a professional tool. It feels and looks like a browser app.
    • The free version is too limiting. You can't get a feel for using the software. It's like they want to punish people who use the free version. Why? Those people are free advertisement.
    • I dislike the colored tabs at the top. They don't fit in with the overall design and look very childish.
    • The behavior window is confusing. What's the add button?
    • C3 chrome exclusive, but Chrome support for the Mac is lacking. I can't even use web app version of C3 for Mac.
    • Too many work arounds for Mac users to use C3 because of Chrome. I'm ok trying to figure out work arounds to make my games do what I want, but I don't want to have to find a work around just to use the software. Chrome is a bad idea. If Safari is too limiting too, then let's meet half way with Firefox.
    • There is an insane amount of bugs for a beta. How could they have missed all these bugs? And we are using a limited version where most of the best features are locked. How can we test for those bugs?
    • I don't see a way to test my games with multiple browsers. Chrome only games is unreasonable to me, and I don't want to have to work backwards to figure out why my game doesn't work the same way on different browsers.
    • Too many pop up warnings. Every time I test a game, I get a warning and have to push the "try again" button to make it work. Why can't it just work the first time I try it? Is it the browser settings? I don't want to spend a lot of time customizing my browser just get an app to work.

I feel like I'm ranting, but I can't help but express my disappointment. C2 is such a better product. I hope they keep their word and continue maintaining it. I plan to use that for the foreseeable future.

  • I can't get Super Ubie Island on consoles and i really wish i could.

This is a major issue when trying to develop bigger games.

This issues has me seriously looking into Game Maker Studio 2. But I really do enjoy the event system in Construct. Big reason why I am so on the fence. But I can't keep developing projects without a way to deploy to consoles

If you can hold off for 8 or 9 months, Fusion 3 is suppose to have an event system similar to C2. Not sure how complex your game is, but here some games made with Fusion:

    Distraint 2:

Five Nights at Freddy's (I heard there is a movie in the works):

  • My main argument here however is that Construct 2 and Construct 3 users looking to make serious, commercial, action games, are (probably) in the wrong place, and that's okay because Scirra still has its awesome way of making games for fun / web browsers

I think we are in the right place is we want to make serious, commercial HTML5 games.

  • I also want to make the point that most digital media consumption is done with mobile devices now and there is no indication that will change in the foreseeable future.

  • Game maker been around, it seems like, forever. I remember using it before YoYo Games bought it. It use to have an ugly logo of a hammer in front of a red sphere. I remember thinking for the longest time that the developer was Russian. And if I remember correctly, it use to be completely free too before Mark sold it. No surprise they have one of the largest communities.

Edit: Wow, I just checked out the new Game Maker Studio 2 website. It looks amazing! It's come a looooong way.

But Cryptwalker is kinda right, though

He's right and wrong. It's an over simplification. It can be just a fancy webpage, but it can be an activity that also provides immediate interactive feedback. It's like saying a plane is just a metal box with wings. It's a little more to it than that.

You mean online like HTML5 games or digital downloads? I would certainly say digital content is cutting into that. Steam, GOG, Direct2Drive, Humble Bundle, etc. Soooo much easier to buy a game online and use it right away than having to run down to you nearest GameStop to pickup a game. I'm sure sites like Amazon have something to do with GameStop's profit loss too. As technology improves, people become lazier.
