    Aww, don't say that!

I would say HTML5 games are a little more than just elaborate decoration.

  • Just read the post. I like that they plan to unlock features for game jams. Very clever idea.

  • Don't forget some gestures are os specific, like swipe up from the bottom on Android, or 4 touch close on Ios.

Yeah, I agree. iOS has specific gestures swiping from the edges too. Swiping up from the bottom brings up the control panel, swiping down from the top shows notifications, and swiping from the right is for opening other apps in multitask/spit screen. I don't think devs have to worry too much about that because users are probably aware of those gestures already for their device and will know to avoid them.

True. It's better to have tools to build your own, rather then being stuck with pre-made options.

Well, you won't be stuck with it. You could still build your own.

  • all those things you are listing are easy to do in Construct 2.

here is how you can do gestures (important to check the last page of that post)

using that plugin you can create your own stroke gestures but if you want simple stuff like "swipe right" you can do that by yourself with the events, just need a variable that reads the firts position of the touch.x/touch.y and the last position, compare those 4 values and done.

c2 also have a pinch to zoom example capx in it.

I know you can already do that. I mentioned as much because I knew someone would argue that point. I'd like it to be easier to add to a game though. Maybe just extend the already included "Touch" plugin. Touch Screens are very common these days, so why not?

I do appreciate you linking to the gesture plugin though, and explaining how to modify it. It looks easier than the way I've been doing it. Thanks!

  • I thought cloud service was part of the argument for the subscription model? It seems like every new feature has a catch to it.

    • C3 is now cross platform! (but it can only be used with the chrome browser)
    • C3 can be used on your mobile device! (but it has to be an android or widows phone with chrome installed)
    • C3 can save your project to the cloud! (but you have to use a third party cloud service)

If it works, it works, I guess. In some ways C3 sounds very powerful, but in other ways it feels limited.

  • What a lot of people forget, is that we chose not to tease too early because it puts our revenue at risk. If we teased 6 months ahead of time and sales dried up as everyone waited for C3, we'd be screwed. We decided to take the more risk averse route.

    That's understandable.

  • Just curious if there will be any touch gestures build into C3, commonly used in mobile applications? Something like swipe left, swipe and hold, 3 finger swipe right, pinch, pull, etc. I know you can already do most of these in C2, but I'd like to see something easier implemented.

You're making incorrect statements about what I had said. My point was that it would have been good to release a full list of features and then post weekly detailed posts as Scirra has been doing. Not have people wait week after week to be able to have a general idea of C3's overall features & capabilities. I never said the detailed blog posts were a bad thing.

You also give the impression I said teasing was a bad thing, which I didn't . I just criticised the way it had been managed. As you mention, "It's not to uncommon to start teasing 6 months out", yet as you also mention, "People in the forum have been begging for clues and information about C3 for over a year". You're basically proving my point, the teasing started too early and then waited too long to start publishing a few insights to get people excited.

Anyway, things are as they are now and we just have to wait and see what C3 will offer when we get our hands on it.

I said that detailed blog posts are a good thing, as a separate thought apart from what you said. It's something I added to the point that they are handling it very well. We disagree on your point that they are being "childish."

When do you think they started "teasing?" From what I noticed, they announced there would be fewer updates to C2 because they were shifting their focus to developing C3. It got people excited, but it wasn't a tease. It was an explanation. People would ask direct questions about C3 in the forums, and they gave answers from time to time, but I wouldn't consider that teasing either. I don't know when you think the "teasing" started. I think we both agree that teasing something too soon is bad thing, but I think we might disagree when that actually started.

I would also like to point out that we agree with more things than what we disagree upon. I don't really think this is an argument to be won. It might just be a difference of opinion. You expressed your opinion and I expressed mine.

I think that meme was an attempt at wit but failed. Seriously, Moot has a point about the slogan, but in the end I don't think a slogan on the website will sell it. It'll be the features, support and capabilities of both the engine and the devs that sell it.

I agree. I slogan probably won't sell it out right. It's a subconscious thing. Like a jingle. If it's good, people will remember it. I could probably rattle off a dozen slogans right now and sing even more jingles for different products. Sometimes slogans are more memorable than the actual product.

"We'll leave the light on for you." is a slogan, I think by some hotel business, but I can't remember which one. That slogan just sticks with me because I have family, and I leave the light on for them at night. It's simple, kind, and relatable.

    Edit:

Looked it up. It's Motel 6. I think that's why I couldn't remember it. I purposely blocked it from memory.

    Hahaha! That comment was hilarious!

Do you want to learn to code? I would rather commit suicide than learn that.

Have I made any money yet off of C2. Hell no. Have I learned a lot? Every single day.
