  • Using a full 3D physics/graphics engine, I suspect, would make the creation of a 2D game much simpler. I think the focus is to remain 2D, for... speed? I don't know. Though, if I programmed a platformer today, from scratch, not being a programmer, I would use polygons and meshes of them to organize all information.

It would just be... 2.5D, or whatever you call it, for simplicity's sake. The playing field entirely 2D, game environment, collision stuff and appearance somewhere in between. SSB style.

  • Ohhh. I thought the multiple lights comment was only regarding dynamic shadow-casting attempts. The way the posts are arranged is misleading, I guess.

  • This looks a lot like Escape Velocity. Some friends and I were actually going to make a full 3D game like it at one point.

  • You couldn't get the gun blast to spew lighting information around it, or the ghosts to emit a faint green, eerie light? These additions feel only necessary.

  • Xfire is great for PC gaming. I'm always signed into that.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Megaman 2 and Castlevania. Deadeye, you are awesome.

I don't have any consoles, owoo. Would buy PS3 if any.

Present games of choice have been, GTA: San Andreas... and, well, UT3 I guess. But it would be nice if UT3 were actually a PC GAME. Not a consolized bumrape.

  • He'll get there.

  • Yay, normal maps! I was hoping so and should have known.

  • About the jump animation, is, is that there is no animation of her jumping; she is simply lifted dangling into the air. To me, it is odd. However, this project is essentially nice and neat; always lovely to see something of the sort, having been worked to a playable state.

  • I read this and love it also. Not only is Construct a most awesome thing and awesomely progressing in development, but it now has awesome documentation? Thank you so much.

  • Though, now we know it is in need of bumpmapping.

  • Heh, I love this so much. I had a feeling it was entirely possible, too... thanks Ashley!

It is just a greyscale map?

Edit: Oh oh oh! And if you want to apply bumpmapping to all of the objects on the entire screen, would faster rendering be possible through the use of scaled and filtered lower-res bump textures? That would be neat, to have professional-like, scalable graphics settings in a 2D Construct game.

  • This is like the DX10 equivalent of what I payed $200 for a couple years ago. I'm pretty pissed that it's so cheap. $65, wtf! But awesome.

Does the Print Screen button not work for you? Just, you know, curious is all. If all you're doing is posting a screenshot.

No, I prefer to be able to tap a single button and have the image saved away, instead of tapping, pasting, saving, then going back to the game. I am curious, as to why you seem so hostile recently?

Yes, it was the program that nearly crashed my OS; Fraps is fine. I cannot reproduce the error, it simply occurred in that instance.

Hitting F12 to take this screenshot using Fraps seemed to make the program eat all my memory. When I closed it in the task manager it was up at 800,000.
