Tom's Forum Posts

Well well... people on the internet... thinking they can post about anything - even personally attacking people when they are not on the same side of a discussion.

For anyone who missed the context, Lamar was back posting accusations that we're a scam company. Was willing to reconsider his ban at end of beta but not anymore. He's permanently banned now, account and IP address.

So Tom are you going to do anything about the members here trying to disrupt this thread or is that your plan to use them to drive me off the website?

People are watching and they see what is going on.

You're now banned for accusing me of trying to manipulate people into driving you off the website.

Everyone else feel free to continue discussing your thoughts on C3 so far.

Tom I have not been negative at all but I am realistic and this post is not negative and is getting good response.

I have games on the arcade and I help the members asking questions and I have people working on graphics for my game and I am a licensed user that still will be using C2 occasionally and I expect to get my updates.

I am certainly not the only one that has expressed not liking C3 but it seems you don't want anyone to express anything negative about C3 or asking any tough questions.

Sorry, but the endless reel of questions and frequent misrepresentations of what we say and do forces us to keep an eye on what you're posting and is starting to become a real drain on our time and resources.

We're fine with criticism, but your posts are coming off as purposefully aggravating, and attempting to whip up dissent and concern. At this point, I've just about had enough and we've shown you a lot of patience.

It's obvious Construct 3 is not something you're interested in. So, how about you move on and stop posting about it.

  • > It's really hard to do frozen updates. The free edition is always kept up-to-date, as it's really part of our marketing and we want to make sure there's the latest and greatest version for people to use. So this approach means for some users, you sign in and then it has to downgrade you to an older version than you're already running. If that downgrade doesn't work or is blocked, you get the latest update anyway. Plus I think on the off-chance there's a Chrome bug that breaks even just very old versions, currently that doesn't matter, but with frozen updates it will cut some people off. I think that would work out very badly: either we have to effectively fork our support and maintain multiple different versions of the codebase for essential fixes, which is a big drag on development, or we just tell users sorry, we're not patching it, and then I'm sure they'll get upset anyway because something they once paid for no longer works.

    > It's a great deal easier and simpler just to keep everyone up-to-date.

    >

In my eyes this problem is simple to solve:

    - Just provide a frozen version for the offline edition only.

    - Keep only the newest versions supported. Warn the users that if they are going to use the frozen version, they won't receive support till they re-subscribe and update again.

This way you would solve the problems you mentioned in your post and also ease the souls of those who fear the lockout (myself included).

Customers would expect bug fixes, and retro fixes for breaking changes. This would be a headache to maintain. Secondly, support would become mired in difficulties with everyone running different versions.

I'm locking this thread, lots of calls for it earlier and NotionGames seems to be happy for now. It's run its course and has descended into a never ending loop of unrelated questions again.

8,000 unique people tried it in the first 24 hours.

[quote:2m609svv]Now how many of those were unique users because I opened C3 at least 10 times that first day trying to get things to work?

Your questions are posed in an aggravating way.

Also Lamar, if you feel we've disrespected you - feel free to leave like you have suggested. No one is stopping you. At this point we'd rather be spending more time working on the software than answering the never-ending spool of questions you've been throwing at us for the last several weeks.

I guess Tom and Ashley could tell us what the unique download or use numbers have been for C3 and that would give us at least an idea of how many people tried the beta?

I would be interested in seeing that number?

Like how many tried it the first day and how many new people are trying it each day?

    Here's some numbers for you:

    > Which threads were unjustly locked that you are referring to?

    >

Good point, I unfairly lumped locked and closed together in one there.

I am more so concerned about closed bugs (which I mistakenly believed were locked) which were closed simply for not fitting within the tight guidelines on bug submissions.

How would you like us to deal with bug reports that don't meet the minimum requirements to investigate? Do you have a link to some of them that concern you?

We talk to our customers too, it's part of our charm as a small indie team. The same applies for Scirra, not participating in the discussions just proves everyone who says Scirra doesn't listen is right, although I guess ignoring their concerns and locking their threads / bug reports does the same too

Which threads were unjustly locked that you are referring to?

  • Support for SDK is in the new release. Documentation coming shortly, will open a Javascript SDK forum now where docs will be posted when available.
