  • I also just got my first game approved from apple late last night and it's available on the appstore.

    This game is pretty simple so I was able to use PhoneGap with the LowLatency Plugin for phonegap. Compiled everything with Xcode so I was able to include iAds as well.

    Already my game as made more on the Apple App Store in ad views in 8 hours than the same game has on Google Play running AdMob for the last week. Just an FYI.

    You didn't make that with an unregistered version of C2 though, I imagine. 20 levels, only 100 events? Unlikely.

  • I don't think that the sites are exploitative, I just think they have a very defined niche. In Brazil, for example, you are considered to be "middle class" if you are making between $291 - $1,019 USD per month. In Pennsylvania, I wouldn't even be able to move into a very cheap apartment with $1,000 a month, and would really struggle to do so with $2,000 a month.

    So sure, if you live in the US and you are trying to underbid people in other countries, where expensive of living is so much cheaper, you're not going to find yourself making a reasonable income, most likely. But if you are just trying to build up a portfolio, this could be a decent way to try to make a few bucks in the process.

    Likewise, the type of work available on these sites are generally locationally irrelevant, which makes it an outstanding way for anyone to access these sources of income worldwide.

    So no, it's just the market speaking, so to speak. It's just a lot of people aren't used to having such a diverse competition.

    This is why so many jobs go oversees. Not just because people are "willing" to work for less there, but because, sometimes, a smaller income has a comparable power where these workers live.

    Obviously, that isn't always true, and many people are exploited worldwide for cheap labor.

    Looks like a good watch, and the guys who are working on the awesome looking Castle Story seem to like it.

  • I could search this elsewhere, but since it's right here..do you know if you can just use virtualbox and compile via xcode there, along with other necessary tasks. I registered as an iOS developer on my windows pc, but haven't paid anything yet.

  • Mostly, yeah. I just loved the method above so much that I thought I'd throw it out there. I won't bother specifying small differences between the two, as no one seems to agree it's worthwhile.

  • Yeah GenkiGenga is right. Even with tools like playmaker, a 3d game is a lot more to do, and even a nice tool like Unity doesn't provide an ease of use comparable to C2.

    I'm not sure an "iron will" is quite right, but you will certainly need to be doing a lot more work. It's far from just different; it's more difficult and more broad. 2D really makes things more accessible.

    Not to say you can't make a 3d game on your own, people obviously do that. Just make sure you measure your scope before you start, you don't want to jump into the ocean without knowing how far you are from shore.

    All that being said, if you [marked one] figure out a way to implement 3D into a C2 project, either during or after your creation process, let us know, I'm sure everyone here would be interested in learning your method.

  • oh yeah, and all this time I was thinking that trine was 2d. But bastion is 2d (even though it employed 3d tools to help build its animations). What games do you want to know the tools that were used to build them?

    So yeah, obviously 3D gives you more options. But great games can and are still made in 2D.

    Actually it looks like I'll be using unity/playmaker to build an application, if I can't do it in C2. Well, I might need to use a CMS instead, actually, which makes me sad. Hoping to discover otherwise.
