  • Oh my! You really got something there sir! It's awesome!

  • Well I can't answer why is everyone doing it, but I can say why am I doing it.

Well, first of all, nostalgia, I grew up playing games that looked like this, I like to see it again.

Second, the low resolution let the imagination flow. I mean, i'm very sure that if you play my game you will start to see much more information than there's on the screen, probably you will imagine a totally different astronaut than the one I imagined, with his own personality and face. This is possible thanks to the large chunky pixels that are not very clear in showing everything.

Third, it's easier. Or maybe not easier, but somehow faster. Honestly, for me it is incredibly more difficult to draw a pixel-art image than a realistic/stylized one, but the pixel-art is much easier to animate and implement in the game.

Well, let's get on with some updates! I did some background animations, like that alien power core (used as example up there), one of the objectives in the game and a fountain.

I also did one cut-scene image that will appear in the game introduction:

    <img src="http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/nn453/amorabettany/Opening-1.png">

There's already a bunch of new tilesets too but I'll post them later with some screenshots.

Ooh and most important of all, I'm kinda broke, so I decided to try an 8 Bit Funding project to get some money to finish this game. The final game will be free, but I believe that I'll only will be able to finish it if I get enough donations. Well, you can check the page here:

Thanks again for all the compliments and support!

  • Thanks a lot for the support! I just finished a teaser trailer, here it is: http://youtu.be/xuD-lNCgxbg

  • Hey here I am again with another project! Talbot's Odyssey is going to be remade in C++ so, I'm starting a new, simpler project. Probably I'll try to fund it with a ridiculously low 8 bit funding project

It was called Dark Citatel but I think that Out There Somewhere fits better with the main idea. I still don't have an open beta version, everything is to crappy to share now, but as soon as a I got something I'll post here.

The game is a simple platformer and you play as an astronaut, forced to land in a strange alien planet. Low on fuel you need to find someway to survive, maybe stealing an alien power core, collecting abandoned ones or even staying in the planet working forever in the mines. There will be 5 endings in total.

Also there will be some equipment to help him survive on this planet, more notably, a teleport-gun, it teleports you where you point it (something like a portal gun maybe).

Probably in a week I'll post a small beta version.

For now, here are some screenshots

  • This is AWESOME! I can't wait to play it!

  • Thanks guys! I'll start a devLog as soon as I got a demo,

This is awesome! I really like the style!

  • Here's something I'm working now:

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Yes it surely can! The gameplay could be compromised by the keyboard though... And I agree with tulamide, you would need to create your own movement.

  • New Open Beta! A lot of changes from the latest version, and now with a installer!

    You can download it here:

Thanks! And hope you like it!

  • Since the crash seems to be associated with a lot of objects, did the Application setting "enable scripting" accidentally get set?

Hmm, I don't think so, this bug happens even in debug mode.

I found a way to stabilize it a little now, before changing layouts I destroy a lot of objects, especially the large ones. I'm not really sure it worked, but since then I'm not getting it.

  • I was testing a few things here, could this be caused by a huge image? Maybe a box with more than 2000px hidth or heigh?

  • Hi! I'm having a big problem with the XAudio plugin, Magicam, or the construct itself. I'm not sure if this is a mistake I made or a bug, since I can't reproduce it in another file.

I'm working on a big Construct project (lots and lots of events, and files, etc) and the bug appears only in a scene that has more than 350 objects. Here's what I got, every time I try to change layouts in that level:

    <img src="http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/7713/erroroq.jpg">

It becomes a lot more rare when I use the fade transition, turn of music and delete a lot of objects, I don't know why.

If I remove the MagiCam, the same error continues to appear, now with the XAudio plugin.

If you need more info just ask!

  • This saved my life Thanks a looot! Now I can use my fonts \o/

  • Here's some new screenshots of Talbot's Odyssey

PS. We're on indieDB too here's the link: http://indiedb.com/games/talbots-odyssey-part-i

  • Great idea! I love the concept, especially if you start working with some different mechanics along the levels (like clicking in things, objects that can be passed trough, etc) Though I agree the welcome screen is too difficult, and i feel the ball is to fast too.

    Great job!
