  • I don't think it's a matter of which tool is used.

It's more about the idea, quality and investment.

But I assume that construct 2 is mainly used by hobbyists and freelancers who don't intend to invest a lot for publishing a great game.

In terms of investment, some other popular engines would be probably a better choice.

ps: how much time have you already spent on this game btw?

  • Btw, do you do this game as a hobbyist or as a freelancer?

  • Hello,

Do you have tools to recommend regarding the design of animated characters/sprites and export them efficiently (without exporting frame by frame or part by part) for using in Construct?

My question concerns both 3D characters and 2D characters.

  • Thanks for your reply.

I'm French, but I stayed/worked in Wroclaw several times and really loved it

Good job with the 3D models. Impressive.

    What tool did you use?

I'm using sketchup but I can only do simple models. And it takes me like forever :/

Recently, I made a simple game for my kid and I have used 3D models from the sketchup warehouse and exported 8 frames of each model and used them in Construct (I don't bother with the smoothness for such a simple game. For a prototype I did few years ago in Flash, I used the same technique and exported something like 32 frames and it was acceptable. Of course, more frames the better ), but it took me sooo much time.

I also agree with you regarding the car behaviour and iso 3D. But someone on the forum suggested to use transparent sprites to use with a physics behavior on a virtual 2D map and draw the iso 3D sprites.

I think it might work. I'll make a prototype.

Building the car or physics behavior would be more a pain than a real problem (those behaviors exist, it's just a pity and a waste of time not to be able to use them ).

I have in mind a racing game that I'd like to make.

2D top down would make it so easier, but iso 3D gives a better feeling.

  • Czesc,

    Very nice.

    I really like it.

How do you handle the iso 3D, especially the collisions?

Transparent sprites on 2D map with physics behavior?

Did you export 16 or 32 views of the gokarts and rotate them depending on the angle?

At last, did you do the artwork yourself?

    Graphics are nice.

Ah, and the quadcopter putting back the tires is a great idea

  • Yep, so in your example, the seller doesn't believe that he/she will earn 300$/month for 1 more year?

Otherwise, why would they sell it if it has so much potential.

I had a quick look at the most active apps and they are "full of potential" but the sellers "don't have time to take care of them", "have to focus on different businesses", "working on new projects", etc.

  • Up.

I see only 1 possibility: you see a good game with crappy polishing or missing features and you purchase it just to make it better and sell it with a profit.

But after seeing flippa listings, I'm still wondering...

For sure, the best marketing guys in the world are there

  • Yes lol.

But, thanks for the tip. It's the best way to have the best ROI on an indep game

  • Ok, but what I meant is, roughly : "do you plan incomes based on your investments?".

    i.e. scenario 1:

you invest money and/or time in programming a game,

    you purchase Construct license,

you purchase licenses for publishing in Android and/or iOS markets.

    You earn X$.

    Scenario 2:

    Idem +

    you purchase assets,

    You purchase advertisement.

    You earn Y$.

  • I have several mobile devices (phones, tablets) and there is no (3D) game lagging on them.

Btw, check out the Lego games. Some of them are in 2D and some in 3D.

All with a very very good quality.

I also liked a lot Monument Valley (would be difficult to build in 2D I guess).

Personally, I love racing games with a perspective view like super Off-road or power-drive.

Those games were made in 2D and have this pixelArt charm, but I'm not sure that an editor would do such a game in 2D nowadays.

Also, to me, it looks like having a perspective view always gives a plus compared to flat graphics.

  • Thanks for your answers.

It seems that a lot of people are making their own assets. Congrats.

It needs so much skills (and time).

For those of you who purchase them, do you actually earn enough money with your game to cover your investment?

  • Hello,

I was wondering who is buying games/apps on flippa and if they are really making money with them.

I mean, if an app was so successful (and has potential to be successful for some more time), does one really believe that it would be on sale?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I'm a real hater of 3D games.

I think that 3D is nothing more than mess of triangls and blur. 2D gives you a crisp image without blur. Pixel art gives you a perfect resizeble image that looks the same in big screens and small screens. Also 3D means always a problems with camera and view.

Is there a game in particular you'd like to point?

Because I don't see which 3D game you are referring to.

As per the examples in my initial posts (Pako chase and Crossy road), they wouldn't look the same at all in 2D and they wouldn't be so popular, I'm pretty sure. And there's no issue with scaling and blurry images or whatever.
