  • Hello,

    Are you:

    • hiring artists to create your assets,
    • do you make them by yourself,
    • do you purchase them from assets platforms,
    • do you find them for free on free assets platforms,
    • do you use what you find on google (whatever the license)?

Just curious. I have seen games with very nice graphics in the completed games sections and I am really wondering.

    1) Some Yes, Some No. I don't, and some draw it themselves.

    2) Some People.

    3) Visit the Scirra Store and you'll find out that many do.

    4) So many sites give assets for free, for example Kenney.nl provides free assets or Scirra Bundle provides it if you purchase a license. (Also Opengameart.org is popular for free assets.)

5)Absolutely not. What I mean, we don't just download anything on google with just any license. There are some procedures to make it legal.

You need to find the right license for assets. It is free if:

(I am not a lawyer and this is just based on my opinion and I am not liable for anything and the reader may choose to believe me or not. It is up to them!)

    1) It is a Public Domain or Open source (then you can do anything with it as long as you don't break the publisher's own rules.)

    2) If it is within the CC License then I believe it is likely to be free and can be used commercially if it doesn't break any rules. (depends on the kind of license)

    3) It is free if you credit the maker and you come to an agreement. More likely a CC License.

  • I find them for free on free assets platforms, like here in the scirra forum

  • Made all of them myself...

    (Not all of them sometimes...)

  • About 80% of the assets used in my project so far are my design and creation, but i do need some help on sounds ans things like that so those i aquired on the scirra store. There are lots of assets i have biught on here, and have them handy just in case i need them. Is a good thing to make ur own assets, as there are things u want in ur game to make it unique, but is also a good idea to make some investing on assets. U shiuld check regularly on the store, there are always good deals.

  • Try Construct 3

  • I use photoshop

  • I make the graphics myself (that's my strenght, programming not so much) and get my sound effects from freesounds.org or similar sites.

  • I make most of my own as well. I sometimes find inspiration from some of the assets that are sold on other sites.

I've gotten some stuff from GraphicRiver. But their licensing is too restrictive without paying more for commercial use.

My favorite is... https://www.gamedevmarket.net. They're pretty cheap and they have a simple, one-size-fits-all license.

  • I make them all myself, I'm a bit of an entrepreneur! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

I also take requests! If you wanna check out my portfolio, you can find free assets here: http://kiiragames.weebly.com/pixel-art- ... tions.html

I'm becoming increasingly better at art, and would love to be able to give to the community, so if you want anything, you can always just ask!

    Everything I make is free by the way <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

  • My strength is on isometric sprites, Im currently using inkscape, great program. I also have artrage, and even use OneNote(crazy as it sounds but is true)

  • Since I'm starting to develop games, I'm using Adobe Flash to make the graphics. And now, I'm also used Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape to make sprites and BGs.

Currently, pixel art is not my style for now.

For the musics, I'm using FL Studio.

For the SFX, I found them in some games I have (the most common sounds) and from free assets platforms like FreeSound. I'm sometimes make SFXs using Audacity, FL Studio, sfxr or bfxr.

  • Thanks for your answers.

It seems that a lot of people are making their own assets. Congrats.

It needs so much skills (and time).

For those of you who purchase them, do you actually earn enough money with your game to cover your investment?

    Ouais

  • Mine comes from asset platforms and google .

  • I'm a horrible artist, and free assets aren't usually enough for a complete game. So I make games with artists, whether hiring or working in team. I don't buy assets from stores because unique is better

    Anyone like me?

  • I do my own assets and use some from the free bundle that is below the scirra web page.
