  • So, I have created a nice Egyptian background (640x480) that I would like to scroll left continuously and I've looked over Classic code until I have thoroughly confused my feeble little brain cells! <img src="smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> The last example I looked at was here:

    scirra.com/forum/fog_topic44497_post278614.html

I know my tiled background is large but it contains pyramids, a Sphinx, palms, etc and it will tile seamlessly if I can just get it to scroll, dang-it!

Anyone willing to help out a boob, (oops!) er, I mean noob? HeHe...

    Thanking you in advance!

  • Hello again,

There's another issue that one might consider looking into, this also only occurs if I am not logged in but just visiting the site.

Every time you click on a link another browser tab is opened and if one does a lot of searching on the site while not logged in you end up with a whole ton of opened tabs. This is a non-issue if you are logged in as a member but if you are just visiting, well, it can sorta get out of control!

    Thnx!

PS And one more thing... it would be nice if we didn't receive the 404 page not found when you click on the help features in Construct 2, pretty please! <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Hello Kyatric,

If I come to scirra.com (not logged in to forum), click on the upper right-hand link (tutorials), then click on random tutorial (or any of the other tutorial links), I get the error. If I am logged into the forum, I do not get the error and all the tutorials I clicked on so far seem to be in working order.

    I am using FireFox 6.0.2

Here's what I get (sorry for such a big paste!

  • Hello,

Most of the links on this page scirra.com/tutorials are returning the following error: (When you are not logged in to the forum)

    Server Error in '/' Application.

(Still can't use the forum "insert hyperlink" to insert the link for you, sorry!)

    Thanks....

  • I just wanted to thank Ashley and Tom for being so helpful since I arrived on the scene and I also wanted to say that I have noticed that there are a good many members that take time to help others out and I just thought it would be good to start a thread and let you all know that your efforts do not go unnoticed and that they are truly appreciated!

    Have a wonderful day!

  • Ashley et al,

I need to know where to bring the wet noodle as surely I deserve a big whippin' with one for making such a foopah! I had originally made my game in Construct Classic and then upgraded to C2 and was so excited to have the extra event sheets and layouts that I put a big fat image on my start page, which I later decided I did not need since it was working so great without it and then it got late so I went to bed and then today I got the dropbox account and uploaded and it worked fine in Firefox, never even missed a beat! So then I decided to check it out in IE and it didn't work so I came to the forum and read and read and then I ran across the old bug thread and thought there must still be an issue. I mean after all, I have had the 2 programs since Sunday and have made one whole game, it couldn't possibly have been anything stupid I might have done, right?? <img src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

I am so sorry that I caused you to take time out of your schedule to look into something that I was at fault for! Can I do anything to redeem myself?

Boy, I feel really rotten to have caused you any angst! Please accept my sincerest apologies!

Go ahead, roll your eyes! Dang, being a newbie can be such a pain in everybody's er, side! Huh?

    xoxoxo

  • Sure I can, Ashley.

However, I would really appreciate everyone keeping in mind that this is my first game and it is suppose to be easy as it is for people who have kidney disease and/or are dialysis patients. It is not meant to be hard as their lives are difficult enough already!

And yes, I know Khaos really begins with a "C" and that my kidney does not get destroyed when he is run into by the little green enemies!

So, I would really appreciate it in advance if everyone would try to be nice and respectful, even if you dislike my artwork or my game.

For some reason, the forum will not allow me to use the insert link above so I am listing it here:

    dl.dropbox.com/u/42721278/KidneyKhaos/index.html

It runs fine in Firefox but not IE and it runs offline on both.

Oops, forgot to post the link for the gentlemen who wants to start the new gaming site but the game is already live on his site and it does not show in IE, here's his link:

    cakez.eu/tutorialgame/index.html

(still can't use the insert hyperlink here in the forum! Is this because I am not reputable enough to PM and hyperlink too!) Ugh...

    Thanks, Ashley, etal...

(P.S. Of course I knew I was posting in a closed thread Ashley but since the issue is still an issue, I posted there as well. Thinking to myself that maybe the thread was prematurely closed! eheh...

  • Hello Linkanbinkin,

The first thing I noticed is that you indicated your desire to build a gaming site and almost immediately after that you said you were not good with the artsy stuff. I just want you to know that we all have our strong points and we all have to start somewhere!

I'm sure many might laugh at my rudimentary games because I am new and have lots to learn but they can laugh and even be sorta rude (if they must!), but I would be willing to bet they were all once newbies too!

Dream big and work even harder and you'll do just fine! Come back when you and your team have made a success at it so we can see your website and play all your great games!

    Take care....

  • Hello,

I just posted to a closed thread on not being able to view Construct2 games after uploading to dropbox in IE9. Construct2 generated index pages will not finishing loading, hanging with the blue bar beneath the HTML5 logo at about 98%. Worked fine in Firefox and worked in both browsers before uploading.

Where else are you guys recommending that we upload to test live if there are issues with drop box??

Update, I noticed the gentlemen that posted under the thread looking to build a gaming website, well, his test game isn't loading in IE9 either!!!

    Thnx!

  • Hello all,

Well, I uploaded my tiny little game to drop box just a bit ago and was able to view in Firefox but not IE9. The little bar beneath the HTML5 logo loaded in blue to about 98% and then nothing! This was with the Construct2 generated index.html (no modifications but IE wouldn't run the one I changed my background color on either!). I was able to view fine offline before uploading. No problems with Firefox at all, (except with music).

If this is a problem with using dropbox, who else do you recommend for uploading Construct games to for testing and sharing?

Such a major disappointment that music is a troublesome matter and to learn that there are perhaps some browser issues too, bummer! *Sigh*

  • So, my issue with the minify on export was resolved posthaste by Ashley's suggestion, thanks again Ashley! I know there is an issue with sound but I was wondering....

You guys have a link posted on site for a 7 part youtube tutorial on creating a game called 1945. I believe in part 6 the creator talks about inserting the browser object but then gets sidetracked on something else and never comes back to it. <img src="smileys/smiley19.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> While creating my first game using the concepts in the tutorials I have looked over thus far, the browser object is not mentioned or inserted in any of them so I have nothing to reference which left me wondering; would there be a way to work around the "no sound at all" issue by using something within the browser object since the audio object and loop event currently do not yield any sound in IE or Firefox?

I've tried searching the forum with the words browser object and all things similar but haven't found anything that answers my question yet, I don't know, maybe my attention span wanes before I search through enough pages to find it. <img src="smileys/smiley12.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Any thoughts are most appreciated and thanks in advance!

  • Hello everyone,

I just wanted to insert my two cents here about the badges. I downloaded the free versions of Construct Classic and Construct2, made my first little game in the free version of C2, had problems with the minify on export and my music working after uploading to the web. I joined the forum and posted my very first newbie question (still using the free version of Construct, mind you) and Ashley was prompt with an answer and even supplied me with a link to make it super easy for me to resolve my minify issue.

So, to say that one would (or will) be treated better because of a badge, well, frankly seems incorrect! As a matter of fact, I was happy with the free version but because of the prompt support response I received, I was motivated to upgrade to the paid version.

It takes a lot of work to run a business and though I just arrived on the scene here, I can say through experience, that the folks behind Construct are working tirelessly to deliver us a very nice product and to support the users of the product, without prejudice....

Furthermore, I downloaded this nice product to make games for people who are very ill, to try and help take their minds off their worries. I spend countless hours doing this (for free) for people I will never even meet. It is a labor of love, just like it is for the people behind Construct. So, maybe we could all play nice, be respectful of one another and not persecute these folks until they actually do something other than support us and their products??

    Thanks!

  • Ashley,

Aww, you're being just too modest! I have to say that your quick response really sold me on the support so I am now the proud new owner of C2 full version! <img src="smileys/smiley32.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Now if I could just find my brand new shiny gold forum badge with the green striped ribbon. It must be around here, somewhere! <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Thanks again, Ashley. Do you ever take a break??

    <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Hi Ashley,

Wow, thanks for the quick response! Yes, I'm running on a 64-bit Windows system and sure enough, you were correct in assuming that my 32-bit browser was running a 32-bit version of Java! Aren't you just so smart! Must be why you have the word "Developer" at the end of your name! <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

I downloaded from the link you provided and sure enough my teensy weensy game exported without the message! Maybe a notation somewhere in the program (or at the C2 download link) would be beneficial for new users.

I hope the sound issues get ironed out real soon. Kinda like watching an awesome movie at the theater without any sound (an no closed caption)! <img src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

    Thanks so much...I see a full version purchase/upgrade in my very near future. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

    Thanks again!

  • Hello,

I have recently downloaded Construct Classic and then thought I would try Construct2. I made a very small game (just to learn) and it ran fine in the browser but when I attempt to export, it says it is unable to run the script minifier. I have the latest version of Java installed so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Also, my single music file runs before export; will loop indefinitely in IE and run only once in Firefox (?)but after uploading to server and calling the page in the browser, no sound! Hmmm...

Hope I'm posting in the proper place...

    Thanks for any suggestions. Have a nice day! <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />
