MeJustMe's Forum Posts

  • So, I don't usually state my real name on an open forum but since this is an Official introduction, I'm Karis.

I purchased Construct to make games for people that are ill and undergoing treatment that requires them to be immobile because they are hooked up to machines for many hours each week. I wanted to give them something to look forward to while undergoing life saving treatments; to take their minds off their worries, if just for a little while. I myself, have chronic kidney disease and sometimes the sheer number of hours spent receiving medical care or waiting at the doctor's office can seem unending. I wanted to make a difference for people in similar situations as I.

As of late, my condition seems to have finally caught up with me and even though I still have plans to make more games, I have not had as much time to learn as I would like as I have more pressing matters to attend to. I want to post questions to help expedite my game making skills but sometimes think that my questions may seem silly or I might end up asking too many questions, so I find myself just lurking on the forum or attempting to learn with the tutorials that are available.

So, that's it in a nutshell. I would like to thank Ashley, Tom and Kyatric for all the help with my questions thus far. And to those of you who I did not mention, that offered help, my thanks to you as well.

On a brighter note, I love all the badge incentives! Such a great idea and lots of fun! Thanks! <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Hey Tom,

I'm on a forum that is presently being bombarded by spam sammies. The moderators say that many of them are spam bots but I think not! We report them as they happen but instead of deleting them, they get placed on the Banned List with all their links and info intact. I think this is making the situation worse... Sometimes there are more spammers than legitimate members logged in at a given time and I think that not stripping the info before placement on the Banned List is a contributing factor. What are your thoughts?

Do you delete or ban your spammers? And, would it be okay if I shared a link to this thread to the mods on our dialysis forum and see if they would be willing to take a view at the methods that are working well for you? <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

    Thnx!

  • Hello Tom and Ashley!

Been away for awhile and returned to the forum and the program (finally!) and I just wanted to say things are looking really nice! Love the access to the manual and the arcade looks like lots of fun too!

Just updated to the latest version and think the work you've done within the program itself looks super... can't wait to get back into making games again!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work and wanted to wish you all a happy holiday season!

    (PS... Hello Kyatric!) <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Sorry, guess I misunderstood. Didn't know you wanted the actual file itself, thought you wanted to see what it looked like when it was being previewed in the browser.

    Here you go.

    <img src="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42721278/Dunes.png" border="0" />

    Thanks.

C2 version 62, in case you wanted to know.

I am placing this on top of the dunes for the foreground and it also behaves in the same manner if imported as a tiled background but does not have the line if imported as a sprite.

    <img src="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42721278/SandTile.png" border="0" />

  • Here's an enlarged screenshot. This is the same image file with the one on the left pasted in as a tiled background and the other pasted in as a sprite. You can see the line at the top of the image on the tiled background and not the sprite even though they are actually the same image!

Sorry about it being so blurry, I wanted you to see the line I was referring to and it got really fuzzy when I zoomed in.

    Any thoughts?

  • Can't view the grid based sight behavior, unknown behavior ID under element!

    Got any suggestions for C2 tuts on shadows? <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • I have noticed a peculiar thing with my images and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and also if once I export my game the problem will go away??

So, I have an image and it is of some sand dunes (not straight across on the top but wavy) and I have saved it as a png. If I insert it as a sprite, it is clear and fades into the background (sky) as expected, however, if I insert it as a tiled background, you can see a hard straight faint line at the top. Is this normal and will it disappear once I export the game? It's persistent, even if I try to resize the image from the top if it is a tiled background, it behaves the same, keeping the faint line across the top. Same image, two different results! Hmm....

    Thanks for any thoughts.

  • Same here, dear... the latest version of Firefox.

Hmm... I don't know why it doesn't happen for you, I get the same results each time I try it.

I usually click on the search box in the upper right hand corner and then it opens another page with the large search box in the body, and that is what I use to search. I wonder if that could also be part of the reason I get so many nonworking links... You suppose that could be a contributing factor? Could be something to consider, I guess.

I'll search as you have suggested and see how it goes, it would be great not to get so many broken links. I'll give it a go and report back if it improves my search results and minimizes the nonworking link issue.

You do a great job as a forum moderator and you're a good teacher as well. Thanks!

  • Hello Kyatric,

How are you? Well, I posted exactly what I did and what happened. I came to scirra.com and I typed in pngcrush into the search box and viewed the links on that page and when I got to the second from the last link and clicked on it I was actually redirected to the forumsitemap2.xml page instead of being sent to the actual thread as expected.

I tried it again just now and the same thing happened. So I guess if you were to retrace my steps exactly and go to scirra.com and type pngcrush into the search box and go down the page and click on the second link from the bottom, you would obtain the same result. It happens whether I am logged in or not.

Since I expected to arrive at the actual thread, I was surprised when I wound up at the forumsitemap2.xml page instead, thus the resulting page was unexpected.

Hope that explains it a bit better. (Thnx for your response about the light/shadow thread, btw! Much appreciated!!)

  • If you perform a search for pngcrush and wander down to the second from the last link and click on it, you get an unexpected result.

    Click this link

    scirra.com/forum/directx-file-installer_topic44245.html ...

and you are sent to this page

    scirra.com/forumsitemap2.xml

Hmm.... A point to ponder, I suppose.

  • Hello,

I've searched the site for quite a while and only come up with Classic tutorials for light and shadow.

If there are any for C2, would someone be so kind as to provide a link?

Thanks so much and have a great weekend everyone.

  • Trying to access the above file returns a fail to open project error, see below:

Object type uses unknown plugin ID

    under element: c2project\object-folder\object-type line 106, column 9

The file may be invalid. Try checking file in text editor (projects are saved in XML format)

I'm sure someone will be able to help you out shortly!

  • If you are referring to the internal help files of the program, they are non-functioning at this time. Scirra crew has said they are working on this and it will be appearing in a future release.

If you are referring to the 404's on the site, I believe the broken links are a result of migrating from their old site and I don't know if they have plans to update the links or not.

They are really great about offering help though, so if you hit a snag, just post your questions and someone will usually respond pretty quick and help you out.

    Have a nice day!

  • Well hello, Kyatric;

Hope you are well. I'd like to respond to your post by sharing my thoughts.

I'll begin with the most obvious and that is from a consumers point of view. As a buyer or user of a product, this particular product, I have a certain level of expectation when it comes to learning tools and them being easily accessible.

My point is, why would anyone want their users/customers to have to look for a working link or require them to use a workaround in order to get to the working link? Why not fix the broken links so your customers can learn and make games since that is why they procured the product in the first place? Whether your customers bought it or not is a mute point, as keeping your customers happy and content is what matters here, so they continue to use and support your product!

Secondly, C2 users still must rely heavily on CC tutorials since there are not as many C2 tutorials as CC tutorials yet.

Thirdly, the CC platform tutorials are much more in depth whereas the C2's are more limited in scope, which means the user is required to spend additional time searching for solutions and less time making their games. Which again brings us back to the site and needing to weed through all the broken links and scour the forum in search of answers.

I'm just a new user, trying to learn and offer suggestions based on my experiences with using Construct. Just sharing my experiences for future reference.

Thanks for responding. As always, it is appreciated!

  • Anyone have plans to update the platform school tutorial links on SourceForge.net? Lessons 3-9 give the dreaded 404 file not found message.

Broken links equate to broken dreams, er, I mean broken games! <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Not to offend, but all the dead links do not reflect well on this great game making program or the wonderful, hardworking people who comprise it.

Help! I think Scirra needs to hire the dead link police, STAT!!

And yes, I did download the lessons provided by DeadEye, but I still think the links need to work so potential Construct purchasers aren't dissuaded by things that are broke or don't work as one would expect they should.

    Thanks...
