  • Hi,

I wanted to start progressing my BMX game again now that exporters seem to be able to handle the physics better. (My final intended platform will be Android).

Feedback of the gameplay / visual style would be appreciated in the early stages while I am progressing. The latest version of the game can be played online on this link: http://2dbmxflat.bitballoon.com/

I started with a 'flat' 2d feel, then went to a 3d feel and have now decided to go back to the flat 2d feel. It is easier to create and alter the track pieces. It also just felt more fun. (The older 3D attempt can still be played at http://2dbmx.bitballoon.com/)

In terms of controls currently there are two ways to play.

On the PC you can use arrow keys to move and lean. Z and X then let you wheelie and bunnyhop.

On a phone you can use the touch buttons (These also work on a PC if you have a touch tablet etc..) The smaller left yellow button is wheelie, smaller right red button is bunnyhop.

Pressing pedal or brake in the air helps you lean (Think MX Giro effect).

The 5 colour squares will also change the quality settings to help it run smoother on older phones.

I am currently porting over the game from C2 physics to Chipmunk. I am hoping this will give me some better options and also allow it to run smooth on mobiles. My next stage will be to develop the controls more. I plan to make the bunnyhop more useful / realistic and also improve the wheelie. I did look at tilt rotation but found it hard to get a nice feeling. I might have another try but if its too time consuming I'll probably stick with the current tilt method.

I'll throw together some more tracks for testing over the next few days.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Can this import a user picture from their PC or just get it from an online web base?

    Thanks,

  • Bump to see if anyone knows how to do this? I am desperate now!!!

  • Bump to see if anyone knows a way around this? Ashley?

  • Hi mrline

There is a behavior called Draggingvector. Assign that to the sprite and then choose Horizontal or Vertical in the settings.

  • So its been ages since I made any progress on my BMX racing game (2015). I found that even on my S5 it would suffer performance problems and that was only with one bmx character on the screen. I never got to adding computer AI / multiplayer or finishing the basic engine.

I am wondering if there are enough improvements with XDK or Cocoon now its been over a year to get this back up and feasible?

Can anyone help with the best / fastest performance for building in both?

    • XDK seems so many options now so its a little confusing. Do I export as HTML / Cordova? Then in XDK itself theres lots of options now
    • Cocooon.IO seems simpler. Export to HTML5 and zip. Grab and drop onto the new cloud builder and then 3 choices there. Webview, Webview+ and Canvas+. I've heard Canvas+ should perform best but it resizes my screen to the bottom corner for some reason in view, despite the touch controls triggering in the correct places.

My game uses body parts for a ragdoll effect and uses the standard physics. I appreciate I may get better performance if I start from scratch using Chipmunk physics?

I tried to find some up to tutorials on all this but couldn't. I am hoping there are some new optimizations and tips to help bring this back to life as I really don't want to try and learn to rewrite in different software =(

    Thanks,

    > For me it had to be pay once. From reading on what C3 will bring compared to C2 it just doesn't give enough to warrant a £99 a year subscription. Game making has always been a hobby for me so I guess C3 just isn't for me. It's a shame as I have enjoyed the interface despite the export setbacks. Native android export would be the only thing that sold me on a yearly sub for C3 but we know that isn't in the plan.

Just to clarify it's $99 USD not £99. I know this might not change your opinion, but just want to clear that up for anyone else reading.

Thanks for the clarification. $99 every year still will not change my opinion

  • Hi,

Can Paster be used to allow the user to load an image into the screen? I am trying to use Paster and NW.js to let the user select a image file off their PC and load it into the top corner of the screen. (Like choosing an avatar picture for example). I've not had any luck yet.

    Thanks,

Logo look great and eagerly awaiting the news =)

Although my time making little apps / games as a hobby has slowed down alot with work, C2 is still the only software I use now. Despite the native mobile export options the user interface and slick nature has kept me hooked. I can't wait to see what improvements have been made in C3. I know native export is not something that will happen at the moment but it will still be exciting to see editor / other improvements

  • Hi,

I use Construct2 on my surface pro / laptop and desktop depending on where I am working. To make things easier I installed my C2 on a USB 128gb pen along with my projects. It works great and makes things easy in terms of updating apps from my various devices.

What I am having trouble with is trying to setup the NW.js exporter in the same way. I tried to install directly to the pen drive but C2 still tells me that I do not have NW.js installed when I try and export. Is this due to C2 always looking for NW.js int he C:\ drive? Is there a way to set this up?

    Thanks,

  • Wow! Spectrum is my favorite console and this is awesome!!!!!

  • Hi,

I need some help to finish my app I have been creating for some time. I am currently using an XML file in the project with placeholders to allow my app to export a .XML file with data from drop downs in the app. My issue is that I need to also integrate pictures and ideally have it saved as an Xls file.

With the help of others on the forum I have an example that exports to excel using JS excel builder. My problem is that my app is already written to use a template XML file. It has columns and headings preset and also colour formatting. The XLS export version has none of this. (Just exports an array into a table in excel and a canvas snapshot into a cell).

If anyone has experience in JS / Excel / C2 that might be able to help me finish my app please get in touch!

    Thanks =)

Had a play around and think I could get this working. Unluckily for me it would mean re-writing quite a bit of my program to get working. Also my current program loads in a pre-made .xml file and does a 'replace' of certain headings / values. It actually works really well as it keeps heading formatting (Colours / fonts etc..)

It just lacked the ability to save as a proper excel file / support pictures. Maybe I can 'merge' the two ideas together so I can load up a pre made .xlsx file and update the text in certain places / append a photo.

I've attached an example capx below which shows very simply how my app runs. (Two files in the project, the xml file which is used and works and an xlsx file which I have been unable to get working which contains a shape as a picture reference).
