  • Thank you. Im not sure how I missed that when rooting around in the manual.

  • I apologize in advance if my question has been answered elsewhere. I did a forum search but didn't find anything on it, but if it has been answered already feel free to point me in the right direction.

I am wondering, is there a difference between a global variable and an instance variable? I know that globals can be used/seen throughout event sheets and instance ones cant, but is there a reason to use one over another? Or perhaps something else I'm overlooking? Thank you,

    Drew

  • I can't speak to how these forums were years ago, as I just started using Construct 2. However, just from the few questions I have asked (and have had answered) it seems to me that the community here is very helpful, and quick to answer questions (compared to the other communities of game making programs I've evaluated).

  • This really looks fantastic. I'm a huge fan of hand-drawn art in games.

  • I Really love the art on this project. reminds me of old point and click games.

  • I would love to give you an answer, but sadly I have been looking for the same thing. any luck with the plugin?

  • Thanks guys. I appreciate the help.

inquiesco I shot you a couple emails. On the game front, I started fleshing out the levels. I use inkscape to map them out before hand with shapes and text because its fast and easy to do. I'm mostly ignoring graphics in my game until I get a handle on most of the game play.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Ahh I see, that makes sense. Here's a question for you, in order to actually shoot things, do they have to be on the same layer? I just assumed you could still shoot stuff if it was on a different layer.

  • inquiesco Apparently the Scirra website decided to log me out when I tried to submit my reply. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done, although I have no idea what a Z index is yet, lol. I definitely feel like I'm getting somewhere. I'm currently trying to implement homing missiles, but took a break to make enemies spawn instead. So I have something to shoot at

  • Analogy: Heck, I dont think a success factor of a novel is determined by the tools used by the writer, it can be notepad, ms word, or just pencil and paper, but CREATIVITY IS.

This. As someone who has written several manuscripts, and published one, I can tell you that it all boils down to creativity (and good grammar, of course:P). As long as the tool is capable, and the person using it knows what he/she is doing, there shouldn't be a problem. I think people tend to get a case of grassisgreeneritis, and want to hop platforms just because "someone did something cool over there, I can too" and then jumps ship every time something new comes out. Those are the people that never finish anything. Just my opinion, of course.

  • Oddly enough, I had tried the fix of entering parameters into the functions, but I did not change main function at the same time. So I tried both things as a fix, but at separate times, lol. Glad to know I was at least close to the fix, since that means I'm beginning to understand what's going on.

  • inquiesco just got home, so I will be checking out your solution to my issue

I'm pretty ambitious, and my plan is to have a finished game by December, or at least be beta testing it by then. For a shooting game I probably don't need as extensive of an AI as you're making but there's always fun stuff I can think of for the enemies to do, so you never know I currently don't know how difficult Any aspect of the game will be to build, but from what I have experienced so far I feel like I'm picking it up fairly quickly. I have a much more ambitious game planned for after I finish this one, that will utilize at least some of the things I am doing in this, but I'll have to see how it plays out before I say for sure.

Also, I just wanted to say that I"m looking forward to seeing what you do with that AI. I'm always interested in unique game play

  • thank you. I will go over this. I need a much better grasp of functions before I move on for sure. How long have you been using Construct 2?

inquiesco Only a week? Impressive. I struggle a bit with logic, but I am learning. an enemy AI sounds awesome, cant wait to see that.

I do have a list of things to complete but I kept it small for my first game. I want to complete something, not spend several years on a space shooter

  • Thank you for the fix! I will study it tomorrow after work. I' m really working on learning the implementation and not just coping it/using it without understanding it. As for books, I'm pretty much in the same boat. Science fiction and fantasy. My biggest pet peave is going into a bookstore and discovering an interesting series, only to find the store doesn't have book one, lol. I also have to read the first chapter, because 99% of the time I know if I am hooked or not within the first chapter. How long have you been using C2? Have you completed any games yet?

  • inquiesco apparently I can't PM for awhile yet so... Thanks again for fixing that issue. I have another problem that if you guys would like to take a stab at I'd appreciate it. I'm learning about Functions and how to use them. My code works from what I can tell. The problem is that when my bullets switch animations, they don't switch until after the fact. So the bullets come out purple, then switch to blue about a second after the bullet is visible. After 2 days (about 8-10 hours worth) I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

I can't fathom getting a job and just sitting around doing nothing. If I had one, I'd be writing more novels, or reading the Construct2 manual . At every job I've had, when I have downtime I'm either reading, or writing. What sort of stories do you like?

Scirra had a spring sale last year, where the personal licenses were $89 I think. I haven't seen one this year, but I wasn't interested in construct 2 until recently I just started a new job with more money, so hopefully I'll be able to get a copy before too long.
