  • There is no visible pattern to this issue. I made the screen three times the width so I can see objects created but I see no pattern.

Jumping to the platforms one, two, or three has a random effect on the created objects. Sometimes they will stop when I land, sometimes some of them will stop, and sometimes none of them will stop. There is literally no pattern to this madness, er go, I can't see a solution. Some help?

  • I'm creating objects that's off screen with each press of key. The new objects are either platform one or platform two.

For some reason, when progressing through the first few steps, the created objects move much faster. Shouldn't they be following the same rules as the original platforms?

  • Never mind. Just a simple coding error. Don't mind me!

Wish I could delete my posts sometimes!

  • I had to change things around a little bit. Instead of moving the cat, everything else will move so the game can be endless rather than trying to figure out how to loop the background and all that jazz.

My issue right now is that I have platform zero (where the cat is at start of game), platform one, platform two, and then platform one again later. These four platforms will never change as they are used to get the player used to the game.

It's programmed in a way that when the cat jumps, ALL the platforms move to the left at the same speed; however, the second platform one (the third platform) is moving at a MUCH faster rate than the other platforms. Not sure why this is happening since it's not being addressed in a special manner at all.. any help?

  • Wow, thanks, mikehive. I solved the problem but if I can control the camera speed and when it move it, that's even better. thank you!

on a side note, I tried lerping with little knowledge of how to use it correctly but that didn't work. I set it to 0, cat.x, 0.5 but it never moved.. it actually didn't move at al when using any lerp input. hmm..

  • Never mind! I worked on some other things while waiting for an answer and then while looking for answers I found the answer.

I made an invisible sprite in the middle of the screen and pinned it to the playable sprite so the screen will follow the invisible sprite.

  • Hello, all!

I'm currently working on a side-scrolling jumping game. The object of the game is to press the correct key to jump a plat form. 1 would jump to the closest, 2 would jump to the farthest (and of course, more keys and more platforms).

The game starts with the cat on the far left side of the screen and only one platform will appear on the right side.

The user has to press the correct key to land on the platform.

I figured this out so far.

How do I scroll the screen so the cat and the platform it landed on is on the left side of the screen again?

I tried having it so when it collides with the platform, the object and the sprite will move to the X coordinate but it just jumps there. I want a smooth, following motion AFTER the cat safely lands on the platform.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Thank you, oosyrag!! I tinkered with the two you posted and neither of them worked well for me (because I must have forgotten a few steps somewhere) so I sat back and considered all the information you gave me. What I did was removed the directional behavior completely. Then on the event sheet, i looked for the angle of head using the "between" option and for each angle, there are two sub conditions. The angle of the head would be 0, so it can only go up or down so those were the two conditions. It worked like a charm. Thank you so much. Sometimes my biggest flaw (in life in general!) is over thinking things so I really sat down and KISSed it. Thank you so much again.

  • Thank you, again, oosyrag. What you said makes complete sense so now any questions I ask will have much more information. I'll work on that head movement. Thank you!

  • Thank you, Alextro.

I usually type in "construct 2 how do i...." and come up with a lot of answers, but I'm finding a theme amongst the help on the forum. it seems that no one gives directions on what to use on the event sheet, they just give logic.

I understand the logic behind my game, such as finding the angle of the head and such and such, but I really have no idea how to actually 'find the angle'. At this moment, I decided to take a step back and focus on head movement. I want to disable the opposing direction so the snake can not go back into the body. So if it's going up, it can't go down. Left, it can't go right. I can't figure out how to disable any keys.

My logic would tell me "when key is down", disable another key, but I see no such 'disabling' of anything. This program is a lot trickier than I expected. Suggestions?

  • I understand the logic but how do I do that in the program? I have a little knowledge in PHP. When I asked for help in those forums, they would post code snippets. Is that possible here?

  • Hello, all! I've been exploring tutorials and using the in-program examples to help me start my very first game. So far, using the chain-rope example, I managed to pin the parts of the snake together! Woohoo!

    Some questions:

How do I stop the head from moving backwards? I have a 4-way, 90 degree behavior. I only want it to move left, right, or forward.

How do I fix the space between the body parts?

    Thank you!

  • Thanks, oosyrag! I'm looking to make the game more like Neopets Meerca Chase: http://www.neopets.com/games/game.phtml?game_id=500 rather than an 8 bit old school brick phone version. I understand exactly what you're saying. Right now, I'm just kinda bouncing around on tutorials to help get a better idea of stuff.

  • I found this:

My mind just went numb but I'll work on trying to understand it!

  • Thanks, all! The game I have in mind is snake! I thought it would be simple but it's much harder than I thought. At the moment, Im trying to pin the tail to the head and also get it to follow the same path rather than the rope or chain style that came with the program. Not much success. Maybe that's jumping the gun a little.
