  • Mmm...I could make another 'end of rope' sprite, but then there's the question of how to attach this to the main chain

    ...Because as MPPlantOfficial pointed out, this particular rope model is made of looping sprites, so (as far as I know), it's only possible to attach things to the very first sprite.

    OK well here is a braided rope sprite you can make any color:

    You will need an image point on each end and attach them together the same way the links attached using physics hinge points.

    Make one rope sprite with a different name for the last piece that attaches to the pinata.

  • is it possible to use the personal license bought from steam without opening it via steam? I mean, bought the personal version from steam and downloads the C2 from scirra site?

    The license should be valid regardless of where you purchased C2. Look at the license and see if it says anything about STEAM.

    If it doesn't and you don't want steam then download C2 from Scirra website and put your license in that folder.

    I keep a backup copy of the license just in case.

    I got my license a long time ago so I don't know if they have changed anything since then.

  • Hi LaMar,

    Is there a way to get case insensitive? It seems to be in CAPS.

    Thanks,

    Roberto

    I added in upper and lower case letters with shift key and the arrow keys so you can position text anywhere on the screen and the delete key clears the entire page. That is in the CAPX.

  • Sounds like you need a global variable to tell the spawned fireballs to react.

    FireballReact=0

    On PowerUp collected set FireballReact =1

    On spawn Fireball: Set Fireball to new power level

    FireballReact=1

    Something like that.

  • This tutorial might help:

    I made a match tile game awhile back and I used sprites that overlap each other just a little bit and chck for the match using the overlap.

    When sprite1 and sprite2 and sprite3 all overlap it is a match.

  • Sounds like you need a center point on the X axis to check when dragging.

    Global Variable CenterX

    Set that to the center of the layout.

    On Sprite X < CenterX Mirror Sprite

    On Sprite X > CenterX set sprite Default animation

    If you want it to switch every time you swipe left or right then set Center X at the X position of your sprite using every tick and use a global variable called OldX for the last X position of the sprite.

    OldX = CenterX

    CenterX = Sprite X

    On CenterX < OldX Mirror Sprite

    On CenterX > OldX Set Sprite animation Default

  • OK space bar is a repeating key so it reads several presses ahead and that is why your diver hangs out too long on the ceiling.

    Instead of using ELSE use when Space Bar released or use a different non repeating key and that should fix the problem.

    The keyboard reads upper and lower case the same but you could add in a check for when Shift is pressed and select whether to set sprite to upper or lower case letters.

    I am working on a tutorial now and I will see what I can do to make that possible.

  • Just read this and thought it might be of interest:

    "As Blizzard Entertainment continues to work on improving its games, it has decided to move forward sans the support for Windows XP and Windows Vista. The two Microsoft operating systems are already dated, and the video game company has also learned that most of its clients have already moved on to newer versions of the Windows OS.

    Announcing the news on its General Discussion page, a Blizzard representative wrote that the process of terminating support for XP and Vista will commence later this year. What this means of course is the end of the road for “World of Warcraft,” “Diablo III,” “StarCraft II,” “Hearthstone” and “Heroes of the Storm” players who still use the aforesaid Microsoft operating systems on their daily drivers."

  • Wow lamar,

    You are truly great and I thank you!

    You are very welcome!

    I am still working on this so your user can use the arrow keys to position the text wherever they want.

  • Can you make the last link in the rope a separate sprite with it's own hinge point and connect the pinata to that?

  • I made the backspace so it will go clear back to the beginning and cursor stays on screen. I changed that in the CAPX as well so all you have to do is put in the rest of the letters and symbols you want and define your type page space.

    I will create a tutorial today with this because it is probably something more people would like to use.

  • This was a fun challenge and I can use this in my own projects:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1fu3cxy6k5qqxwz/Screen%20Typewriter.capx?dl=0

    You can add in the rest of the letters and whatever other symbols you want and I included a backspace feature to allow your user to edit what they type and the space key.

    UPDATE: I added in upper and lower case letters with shift key and the arrow keys so you can position text anywhere on the screen and the delete key clears the entire page. That is in the CAPX.

    Enjoy!

  • Reality of arcade is that the traffic is low quality - big numbers visiting arcade result in very few people exploring rest of the website.

    We have some ideas about allowing users to monetise their games better in the arcade but that's a long way off yet.

    Low quality?

    Kind of a slam on people that visit to play the games and that is what attracts customers that later want to make their own games.

    I think the arcade is actually your biggest draw to the website but you need outside websites using the arcade games that can be linked to and websites want to see a picture of the game and preferably an animated gif so their visitors are attracted and want to play the games.

    You need outside promotion and arcade websites like mine need game screens that help attract visitors.

    I made these same suggestions in another topic:

    Get rid of low quality games that are not played after 30 days as they detract from what can be done with C2/C3.

    Allow high quality Scirra game designers to advertise in the side bars around games. That develops a following.

    Give popular game designers their own blog and let them attract customers to the website and promote Scirra.

    Take your huge advertisement off the game load screen and put the game picture and logo on that screen with a smaller add for Scirra. Our website visitors want to see what a game is about before plying it and the screens all look identical.

    Use a format for the arcade similar to the scirra store with animated gifs and related games and a search feature.

    Fix the server problems before releasing C3. People don't trust a company that can't even keep their servers working and makes Scirra look bad and their products questionable.

    If game designers can make a few bucks from the arcade and store they will be your best advertising and spread the word in other forums and their own blogs and videos.

    Stop focusing on selling game engines and focus on the games that those engines are producing and THAT will attract people to want your engine. Promote your top game designers and they will promote your engine.

    Sponsor game Jams and contests with good prizes: One of the things all game designers like is a competition and if they can win or get attention for their skills they will flock to a website. When a jam is finished promote the winners on the home page. Give away a few copies of C2 and C3 licensed versions. Give out T-shirts and other cheap prizes and keep it fun. Gamers and game designers are all about having fun. Your homepage sucks with the same stagnant pics that do not attract people to want the engine because it creates great games.

    Support the newbies and make the forum friendly and fun. This is something I have brought to your attention before. You have lots of beginners using the free version that want help with their games and some of us do our best to answer questions and those newbies are your potential customers for a licensed version. The forum has not always been friendly and mods can be over bearing.

    Just suggestions from a guy that took a single video and created a niche that has over 13 million views, 85,000 subscribers and averages 6,000 visits a day. Expand your horizons.

  • I see this topic is populated with examples, while i amused myself with trying this my self.

    Tried to 'copy' that Pokemon Ranger mechanic.

    Probably not needed, showing off anywayz:

    Have fun.

    LOL- yeah that is the same reason I did it. Looked like a challenge and something I had not tried before. May come in useful later.
