  • Awesome! Everyone loves ninjas... make sure you include a forest stage with some insane layers of parralax scrolling, and some blowing leaves... one of these days when I get really good at pixel art I'm gonna make my own shinobi game-- and then I'll be seeing shurikens in my sleep...

  • Hey thanks for that link! I told jamesx to add it to the big example and tutorial thread.

Just ignore that second question-- got things looking beautiful!

  • When people make games that are composed primarily of pixel art, how do they normally set up the display?

I've been messing around with the display resolution and the zoom-- and it looks okay, but with such things as platform behavior-- with the resolution set and also when zoomed in, no objects are "snapping to" the other pixels the way they should-- they just behave like they are objects that aren't only a couple pixels wide...

  • Wow, they weren't kidding when they said you were working on a lot of plugins! Good job!

  • Ha! There should be a new pro-tip posted everyday! Think of the quality of life of every person in the community improved day by day!

  • Haha! I was just thinking about making a topic like this!

My dream game is essentially more of a setting than a game--

My plan is to create a sort of terrarium of robots (becuase robots are easy to draw and animate)-- where you have have larger and more aggressive robots eating smaller scavenger robots, which eat plant-like/sessle robots which survive off of their own sheer fecundity-- then there are tiny parasite robots living on larger robots-- and then other robots that symbiotically exist with those large ones eating the parasites.

Once I have this sort of self sustaining circle-of-life happening, I will put them all in a procedurally generated area of sorts-- and then-- unleash the player character and... umm--- I don't know-- they'll just have to find something to do I guess...

Nothing really seems to be holding me back, other than time and an idea for the game-play!

  • Sounds cool to me-- I voted for the basic one-- but I don't know... would basic updating of positions be enough to make-- for instance-- a multiplayer mario game?

A plugin that can do that, and that is no harder to learn than perhaps the entirety of Construct itself would, I think, be taken advantage of by a lot of people, and yield some pretty amazing stuff!

Also, does anyone know the status of what networking will be like in Construct 2? I don't pay much attention to its development since its still so early on.

  • Actually the way I described worked perfectly and it was less work than I thought it would be! Who knew?

  • Let's say I have a character on the outside of a moving train-- he jumps up and the train goes hurdling on beneath him-- yes that is easy!

Now I have the character go inside the train-- he jumps and he stays with the train--

that's a bit more tricky, but I think I know what to do--

While the character is registered as being inside the train, I will retrieve the trains various vectors of motion and whatnot, and add them into the characters own various vectors of motion so that when he jumps up he stays in the same place. If that doesn't work I am sure I will figure out some other way of doing it...

The reason I have started this topic is because I want to ask if there is already a built-in button to press that will do all this work for me! It seems like maybe there might be, but I don't know!

  • Very cool! Kind of reminds me of Kirby's Canvas Curse on the DS... only none of your videos have any underwater levels so it looks like your game might actually be more fun!

  • Phew! That's a relief-- the level leading up to my first boss battle used 9.55mb-- but then I added all my boss sprites and animations and it jumped up to 30mb and I was getting worried!

  • I was looking all around the forums-- and yes, everyone says to keep an eye on your vram-- but nobody says what to keep it at or under-- what does everyone else try to shoot for?

  • I hope they call it the Super Wii

  • That's nifty-- though it would probably be more space and cost effective to just emulate a SNES on your PSP or DS-- I have no doubt though, that if people saw you carrying that thing around you would become supa popular.

  • Also keep in mind that you don't have to have something be extremely complex, or technically demanding to be a unique idea.
