  • You might wanna try r65. Ash resolved some troubles with the previewing, it might be worth taking a shoot at an HTTP preview with it.

  • Ha good call for the browsers on XP. That's sad and comforting at the same time ^^

I shall switch to 7 very soon.

For the antivirus, I use Kaspersky, and used to have chrome, then Iron, etc...

So not sure this is linked to the article you speak of.

  • Condition "Animation 'Name' is playing" inverted means "the condition will be true when the animation "Name" is NOT playing".

Any condition can be inverted and results in its "opposite"/negation.

  • When you right click a condition, you can "Invert" it.

So test "Animation 'Name' is playing" and invert it.

  • I like and agree with the propositions here. It makes sense and indeed could be helpful when developping.

Hope some of it can make it into C2.

  • The manual is being written by the guys at Scirra.

The function plugin can be found : here.

  • Oh sorry, I didn't pay attention and missed the link.

Well at least it's here too now.

Good job, thanks for the example.

  • Try Construct 3

  • C2 r65beta; Windows XP SP3; FireFox 7.0.1; ATI Radeon HD 4870

    Dual-core E5200 2.5 GhZ; 3,5 Go RAM

Open SJ_64_1.0.capx (same file as here)

Go into LanguageSheet, change the size of the array to 50

Copy the last two elements and modify them to X = 43; value = "whatever"

    Click on Menu

    Preview

=> C2 crash, Windows error, drawtson needs to be stopped manually in the task manager.

That was my first opened project on the newly installed version.

I'm going to try the uninstall/clear registry/reinstall thingy.

And also indeed, r65beta in the about window is labelled as r64.

    EDIT

    I just reproduced it.

As I was searching for the txt file containing the windows XP error report, the preview finaly launched itself :O

FF launched, and the game is playable.

After finaly validating the windows error report, I was still able to play the game in firefox.

  • I understand that you're no stranger to programmation, buddy.

And that's where the trap lies.

C2 is a "language" in its own, that needs to be learnt like others. It is visual event programmation if you will (invented term, I know). But you have first to get used to it. (like learning/seeing/understanding the slight shades/differences between say C++ and Javascript at first)

That's why I underlined the fact that going through the beginner's documentation is a step that is to be taken.

At last all the plugins for C2 can be found in the C2 plugins forum.

  • Yes please Jailson, post the capx for this very example.

I added this topic in the FAQ.

  • Apparently you have to pay attention to the order of the events.

I reproduced what you said from what you told, here is the working version:

    ClickAndSpawn-working.capx

Here is a workaround if ever you need one :

    ClickAndSpawn-workaround.capx

And finaly, here is "the original" as you described and experienced it :

    ClickAndSpawn-surprise.capx

So as said before, the order of events allows to obtain what is intended.

Nevertheless I'm wondering Ashley why/how so the plane's on click event gets triggered when creating a new plane, and especially why no object is picked, despite the object being obviously clicked, since it's triggered (when clicking to create a new plane, all present planes on screen get their opacity turned to 99 automaticly, a fading one as a new one).

    Tested on FF 7.0.1

  • I'd also suggest you to first start with the beginner's tutorial and check out all C2's examples in the install folder.

I can't help but feel through your various questions on the forum that you did not went through this (necessary) step, in order to make yourself a true idea of how C2 works.

Also, what you described can be achieved with groups. Parameters would be global (or instance variables) that you would test inside the group and then "react" to.

  • It's a bug in your events - remember the events are run top-to-bottom, and when the mouse is over mC2Cog, 'cursor is not over mRotaSprite' is true and sets the cursor to a hand. You probably want to use both 'cursor is not over mRotaSprite' and 'cursor is not over mC2Cog' in one event.

Silly me, I did not think about this one. Thanks for pointing it out.

This is by design - when you drag from the project tab you get a default object. Use ctrl+drag in the layout to make copies of existing objects.

Strange, for a second there I was sure that dragging other kind of objects kept the properties you had set up. Guess I was tired.

    Thanks for the answers.

  • cow_trix : Windows XP SP3; FireFox 7.0.1; ATI Radeon HD 4870

    Dual-core E5200 2.5 GhZ; 3,5 Go RAM

I don't have chrome on this install and don't want to install it again (I used to have issues between chrome and my antivirus, maybe some extensions I had installed or something).

  • Here, using the 32-bit version. (I'm in win XP, always installing as "auto-chose", assuming it should be 32 bits, confirmed by the "about" window. )

Consecutively to the discovery of this bug on r63 in my entry's capx, I've encountered more and more crashes (on preview).

You can get a "buggy" capx as well as comments in this report I filled earlier today.
