  • Anyone who has bought MineCraft will be aware of the system.

You register with the website, buy the game through PayPal using the same name as you registered with, the website system automatically gets updated with usernames that have bought the game, and those users are allowed to download updates when you log in using the username through the software.

I'm not sure how anything made with Construct could utilise this approach (though I'm sure it's possible), but in general, how would someone approach this setup?

I'm just looking for an overview of what's required really.

Although I won't need to put this in place just yet, it's something that I think would be useful to know.

    Any help appreciated.

  • This is very nice!

    Thank you.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Yeah, it's going to happen one day, although I think it'll be a slow transition.

Especially after the new wave of 3D TV crashes and burns in about a year or two from now.

But if Google are in charge of it, can you imagine the amount of ads we'd have to put up with?

Too high a price in my opinion.

  • If you have a huge graphic, for instance for a background, cutting it up into smaller pieces and piecing it together again in Construct won't save you VRam, because you're basically using the same large image, albeit in smaller pieces.

The idea is to look at your large image, and work out if you can make it up out of smaller, repetitive graphics.

For instance, you could use a tiled background to give yourself your base colour, and then place several smaller graphics over that to make up the image that you want.

Could you post a picture of the large graphic that you want to display?

  • Top stuff mate.

    Really nice.

  • I saw something funny when playing.

Lol, yeah, apparently he added that on the update just before I got it.

I've only seen it once, and unfortunately, I was outside when it approached.

I'm telling you, running from a skeleton riding a spider who is shooting arrows at you is a unique experience.

  • I mentioned 3 weeks ago in this thread that Notch had reached 100,000 sales of MineCraft, which was amazing.

He has now reached 200,000 sales, and it's climbing fast.

Well, 2 weeks later and he's now sold 341,100 copies.

    Incredible.

  • Well, as MineCraft has proved, exporting to Java gives you a huge customer base.

So, can we presume that the leading option in the poll, running in a web browser, is Java based, and if so, then the export should also be able to export to executable Java too, and not just applets.

Being able to export to applets and Java runtimes would be a huge deal, and if you look at the list, it would actually encompass several of the options in one (Other OS's like Mac or Linux, Mobile Phones (those that run real java), as well as web browser and Windows.

    Win, Win.

And if this is the case, I'd swap my voting immediately.

    Any thoughts on this Ash?

I know the sales will calm down eventually, but another 100,000 sales in just 3 weeks.

    That's just off the scale.

  • However, after burrowing to the bottom of the world and back up the game all of a sudden has lost appeal to me.

I'm hoping that some more new stuff/objectives gets added or maybe mutiplayer to bring some of the excitement back.

That's the danger for any game, if it's hammered.

I know people that try and complete new Zelda games as quickly as possible so they can say they've completed it, where as I make Zelda games last for months by only playing it about an hour a day, and I wouldn't do it any other way.

With MineCraft though, you do have a point (to a degree), as I've seen others say the same thing.

It hasn't happened to me though.

I'm still enjoying it as much as I did the first day.

And I've no interest in using any hacks or 3rd party programs to map the area.

    ------------------------------------------------

Some of the things worth looking forward to:

:: Many more crafting templates, and uses for some current ones that seem useless.

:: Many more monster types, with the likes of Dragons being a possible one.

:: Dungeon mode, which will take away the crafting element and see you playing pre-set levels trying to complete pre-set goals.

:: Multiplayer Survival Mode. Although you can play it now, you can't keep your items when you log off (although Notch is apparently working on that now, and may be included in Tomorrow's secret update). The main problem with Multiplayer at the moment is the idiot griefers who just go around destroying everything for fun, which needs sorting asap. Another problem with Multiplayer is that all the servers I've been on seem to be full of huge buildings, with no room to start your own (a lot of them built using hacks to allow unlimited item creation, which also needs to be outlawed). One plus is the possible inclusion of land-claim flags which will only allow you, or someone you allow, to build in that area.

:: Hidden Temples buried underground. This appeals to me, especially if they're rare.

:: Biomes (or eco-systems). This is nearly complete, and will add different climates to different areas, and hopefully will also dictate the type of monsters that you encounter there.

:: Seasons. Will allow the areas to cycle through the 4 seasons, and will hopefully vary depending on the biome you're in.

:: Villages. This sounds really interesting, and Notch has already had this running to some degree. Imagine villages with roads, etc, with some human NPCs and some Monsters!

There's also plenty of other suggestions that Notch has been getting, and I think he enjoys this game as much as everyone else.

So plenty to look forward to.

In the meantime, I'm going to carry on with my mining, never using any hacks or cheats (never understood the point of that with any game, ever).

  • Sol,

I've mentioned the YouTube videos by davidr64yt in this thread already.

I suggest taking a look at the first 4 or 5 and then going back to the game before watching anymore (you don't want to spoil all the surprises).

    Subscribe to Construct videos now

His videos are a great introduction to the basics, and he's recording while he's learning it himself, so it's quite funny in places.

BTW, Notch (the author of MineCraft) just announced that MineCraft has now sold 100,000 copies!!!

And he met with Valve today in America.

Now that's an indie dev success story.

I just love this game, and I just love what he's got planned for future updates.

For comparison, see my first post in this thread. lol

  • Yeah, the reporting feature works, as far as I know.

I've reported several over the last week or two, and they do get deleted.

    Or is that coincidence?

Maybe a Mod should let us know whether our reports are getting through to them.

You can't report a post more than once, so the system sees it as reported at least.

As for this method of advertising, are there really still people who would click links in posts like that?

The Internet has been around long enough now for people to know better.

    Krush.

  • Sounds great.

Wish I had time right now to have a look at it, but I'll download it ready for tomorrow.

    Cheers,

  • Now that's the Nifflas I remember from the MMF2 forums.

I guess I must have missed your dark days over there.

I fought with GF/MMF2 for a couple of years.

Because of a corrupt save file which went back through a lot of my backups without me noticing, I actually had to start Smiley Fruit Machine from scratch, using the corrupt load to write down by hand most of the code so that I could then program it all again into MMF2.

I think it came to about 50 A4 pages, and at times I wondered why I bothered with GF/MMF2.

It was worth it in the end, and was a good earner for me.

When I found Construct about 11 months ago, it was in pretty good shape then IMO, and I think the latest couple of updates are very close to the finished article.

There's still some important things to fix, and some not so important, but I think they're getting there.

I'd recommend giving Construct some serious time to try out some proof-of-concept demos.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Be sure to back up though.

  • Sorry, going to shoot down your post there KrushBrother

    No need to apologise.

    I've got broad shoulders.

    I can take it.

Seriously though, regardless of whether you should have gone with 0-based from the start or not, his post wasn't very helpful.

I've only been here a short time (It's not even a year yet), but Construct has become what it has because of several people on these forums who were with you from the start.

If they'd decided to not bother with Construct because it didn't do what they wanted, then Construct may not have grown the way it has.

I'm just thankful to those who keep fighting Construct , pushing it to it's limits so that it can be as tight as possible.

I'm not thankful to those who give up because it isn't tailor-made to their needs.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks this of Nifflas post, but I expect I'll be the only one saying it.

Probably because they admire Nifflas for Knytt Stories, and rightly so.

Would you have accepted a critical "first post" from someone like that if it hadn't been Nifflas?

I'm not convinced you would have.

I mean, look at the tone of the post.

You need some fire in your belly Ash.

Being calm is one thing, but you need to learn to stick up for your baby now and again.
