  • Faster, silky smooth, no more audio bugs and now totally useless.

This new version introduced in my app a noticeable lag in the acclerometer readings that simply butchers my game.

Other than that on my galaxy s4 the loading time of a compiled app is now simply unaccetable.

I think little games without accelerometer based controls will benefit a lot from this update.

In my particular case it's 2012 again, I have a game that is simply undeployable. But in 2012 I was not worried at all because I was confident that while making a slow burner project the technology would be ready when finished.

Now that the game is almost ready and with a public demo in preparation I'm really starting to get pissed off in regards of ludei, cocoonjs and the whole html5 ecosystem.

Don't get me wrong, I know that Cjs 2.0 is still in beta and this issue will be probably fixed in the future, but why the hell they didn't release before a stable CJS 1.4.8 with all those audio bugs fixed instead of packing them in a beta of a major release? Why?

They have hands down the better technology out there and they're ruining their reputation with one of the most demented release cycle management in the entire software history.

I think I'll switch to crosswalk even if it's still in beta and struggles more than CJS on lower specs devices.

  • A little update on my ultra-slow burner project: Clyde, a "retro platformer with modern controls" for iOs, Android and (hopefully) Windows Phone 8.1.

  • I have these permissions on my builds.

    android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

    android.permission.INTERNET

    android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE

    android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE

    android.permission.VIBRATE

    android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED

All of them are quite standard for a game. I don't see anything "scary" for a potential customer like camera access and geolocalization.

  • It's been since 2012 and still no sign of movement. Really poor form.

This issue has been solved months ago. There are still problems with physics and ad support but despite that i think cocoonjs is now a viable solution for mobile games.

  • My project saves 75 JSON strings and each json string is a 1300x3 array.

I never had a problem with it but I'm using only the local storage.

If you are worried about the file weight here's a tool that may help you to guess the overall size of your strings.

  • Don't worry, this has been discussed some months ago.

Ludei - TERMS OF USE ???

he licence listed is for the purpose of adding a logo which counts for "reproduce, modify, publish, to also list name, likeness...." this is because the outputted version is a derivative product. If you don't agree to the modifications and reproduction, then they can't legally produce the package APK or IOS version.

  • This video is dated december 2012 (!!!)... it shows an early implementation of the accelerometer driven platform engine that i'm using for clyde and it's running on a samsung galaxy ace (800 Mhz single core with 384Mb ram).

Now that the game has gained complexity it can't run anymore like this on a such weak device but it's still playable on 3 years old devices like the samsung galaxy s advance (basically 2.5 generations before the current samsung flagship phone).

There is no official RAM usage limit on iOs.

The 100Mb limit mentioned before is referred to as the maximum app file size.

Here's a link with an empirical calculation of the memory budget for any iOS device.

  • Ejecta for android???!?!?

Ejecta mixed with phonegap APIs on iOs?

    Crosswalk for android?

  • I think (but I never played deeply with it so i'm only supposing) that checking if alpha, beta and gamma values are positive or negative in combination with the browser object "is portrait/landscape" condition should give you enough information to retrieve the window orientation.

Unfortunately I'm at work so I can't experiment with it.

Are you planning to use an exporter or you're making an online browser game?

  • I'm literally crying tears of joy... Outstanding buttersmooth performance on my both projects (even better than some native games installed on my s4 mini).A LOT better than CocoonJS (and cocoonjs 1.4.6 wasn't bad at all). There are some quirks (sometimes sounds are played after about half a second, but this may be limited to my projects because I used a lot of workarounds to make cocoonjs play sfx that didn't want to play) but hey... we're talking about the first release of a beta exporter for the first release of a beta wrapper.

Tomorrow i'll post a more detailed report, now let me play with this new toy all night long.

The only real drawback seems to be the huge compiled apk size but despite this I think that crosswalk is more than promising.

  • "Uncaught SecurityError: Failed to execute 'texImage2D' on 'WebGLRenderingContext': the cross-origin image at error404.000webhost.com may not be loaded. "

Are you sure you uploaded all your assets correctly?

  • Love the chord progression in the first minute...

Here's a little snippet of the clyde soundtrack... This is the bonus level, obviously is meant to be looped but soundcloud repeat function (shift+l) doesn't work too good :-)

  • Hi rob, unfortunately i trashed gc on my pc long time ago so i can't investigate properly your issue.

However i see those "" charachters that make me think that you're having an issue with BOM UTF-8 encoding.

I really don't know how c2runtime.js file is encoded during an export since i never had an issue with it, my empirical suggestion is to open your c2runtime.js file with an advanced text editor (ex. Notepad++) and save it with the Encode as UTF-8 without BOM option.

Here's an explanation of what seems to be your problem.
