  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Short answer. Yes.

To abstract this a bit, you'll need some form of centralized database that stores each users position. This isn't too hard, plenty of plugins that allow access to web hosted Databases. And construct 2 has an easy way to capture users geo location.

Then, you'll need to display that information. This is slightly trickier. Rexrainbow has a google maps plugin for Construct 2, so you could use that. Then you'd just need to download the coordinates, and display them.

That's the short abstract of how to do this. Actually implementing it, I don't think will be a small task. But certainly doable!

  • I'm currently developing an Isometric RPG.

I found creating my own custom movement and isometric display logic gave the best results.

Heres the code for Isometric display (also a tutorial I wrote on it here), it's actually very very simple. And the key to performance is the line "Is On Screen"

As for the movement, it's not too difficult. Basically I use a "Collision" sprite, and on collisison with it I simply set my Global Movement Speed to 0. Because it's a custom movement, it works really well for both players and NPC's.

  • The Game

Curse of the Frog Prince is our homage to early fantasy where a hero would take arms (well hopefully they already have arms. It does makes carrying things easier, perhaps they take up a sword, or spear, or even a heroic spade.) against Goblins, giant vermin and other gooberlies.

The Curse of the Frog Prince is a role-playing game where you play one of the companions of the Company of the Savage Moon. Three intrepid warriors and their leader, the intelligent and powerful Magician, Morgan Darkstar. Hired to save the village of Rakesdorf from the evil that threatens from the ancient deserted ruin of the Frog Demons, all for a sack of copper pennies.

Yes, you read that right. Copper pennies! What sort of insane economy functions with chests lying around willy nilly for anyone to find. I mean really.

    The Heroes

While the Company of the Savage Moon is a team, you can only choose one of the companions as the other three were struck down by some badly cooked fermented crab.

But which companion will you choose? There really is a lot of tactical choices available...

    Morgan Darkstar

Morgan is the leader of the team. An intelligent and capable leader, he guides the party through their various adventures. Intelligent and perceptive Morgan is also a talented magician, who hopes that through his adventures his name will be associated with the greatest wizards in history.

    Jurnee

Jurnee has swagger and class. She would be a rogue but that would be expensive, everyone loves DLC right! Right? Skilled and deadly, Jurnee is an athletic fighter using finesses and speed to cut her enemies down. As smart as she deadly, Jurnee is also known for caustic wit. But, she is very loyal to her friends. As an expert warrior, Jurnee uses her reputation to advertise the wares of local traders, thus benefiting from their sponsorship. Maybe it's Jurnee, or maybe it's her +2 boots of kicking.

    Freydis

A princess from the lands northwest of the inner sea, Freydis is no pampered noble, but a strong and lethal warrior whose people expect her to fight twice as hard as anyone else. Brave and independent, she is intolerant of those who judge her on gender over skill. Freydis has a natural affinity with animals, and can befriend the kindest wolf or the most vicious of turtles. Snap. Freydis's biggest weakness is not being able to find practical armour in her size.

    Horsan

With a heart as big as his arms, or maybe vice versa, this kind hero is always looking to help out. Unlike that dodgy sorcerer with intellectual dump stats, Horsan genuinely cares about people, and his affable nature makes them care about him. While he can come across as a little naive, only a fool would underestimate his ability in battle.

    The system

The Curse of the Frog Prince is an isometric role-playing game for the PC where the story and the fun is the focus. With a focus on player choice and meaningful actions with varied outcomes. Expect to solve puzzles, fight or befriend goblins, question witches intentions, and ultimately have a fun time.

Using Rendered 3D sprites, the game has the look and feel of a classic PC RPG. We are also using a complex event system to drive the happenings of the world. This allows for a huge variety of scenarios, based on your character, their stats, and previous choices you as a player have made.

We are aiming to make all the characters as equal in ability as they are different in nature. Every single one will provide a different feeling to your play through.

We hope for this to be the first of many games,as a series of adventures we hope to bring the Company Of The Savage Moon to life more than once!

Wow, that was one hell of a wall of text! There's only going to be a little bit more before we get to some pretty pictures. Promise.

Currently this game is being developed by a 2 Person Team, however neither of us are artists. So all the art work is currently placeholder pieces, and everything either has a Freeware (Commercial Use), or a Purchased Commercial License attached.

I'm also very happy to say that we are working with to create the sound track and music scape! (He's amazing, check his work out at http://www.soundimage.org .. seriously!)

I promised some pictures so, here you go!

You can also see some older video's of the game in action and behind the scenes timelapses over on our Facebook page!

So, what exactly has been done on this game I can hear (hopefully) you ask!?

So! Thats the game so far! You can keep track either here, or on the Facebook Page. Facebook will have more regular, smaller updates as well as information about any other games (mostly Game Jams) we work on.

I'd also like to conclude this by saying 3 things:

1st, huge thanks to rexrainbow for all his amazing plugins. I have used plenty of them so far, and foresee using many more.

2nd, if you're an artist. Either an illustrator/concept artist, or can do game art, please get in touch with me! Either PM me here, or email me at keeghan@magicaceconsulting.com

3rd, Thank You! For reading this, and for just taking an interest in this game!

  • Meet Jeffrey!

Before you insult him and called him a cube, Jeffrey is actually a Squish (tm) (c) (all rights reserved) <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes">

What can squishes do? Well good question! They can adjust their size, and maybe their shape if they evolve enough! This allows them to go through all sorts of different areas... and boy oh boy does this leave them in some puzzling scenarios!

Anyway, basically I thought of a concept for a puzzle game. You play as a single object which can resize and reshape itself to get through puzzles. I whipped up a real quick demo of this mechanic (literally 15 minutes) and uploaded to the Scirra Arcade.

    https://www.scirra.com/arcade/other-gam ... uish-21320

Would love if you wonderful community could give it a quick play (it's one level) and let me know what you think of the mechanic (not the glitchyness thanks <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing"> )

I think this could be a fun little comedy puzzle game, filled with personality..

  • KeeghanM

Here is a text-scrolling behavior for my bbcode text, tag text, or official text plugin.

Oh Rex! You're a saviour! This will work perfectly

  • Quick thought, move your current event "Sort all objects" to under a condition of Player != Jumping

Then, under an else condition, run the event "Sort all objects" but for everything except that player.

I haven't used this particular plugin so I don't know if you could do that. But maybe a family would work? Just sort the objects in the family?

  • Hey all,

Hoping someone can point me in the direction of a plugin to solve this.

I want to have a scrollable event log history, picture every MMO every, that has colour controllable text. And keeps the last X messages that the player can scroll up through.

Currently, I have it working without history. I'm using rexrainbow bbcode plugin so I can modify the colour of the text dynamically, and then I use a combination of lerping the Y and masking sections off to get a nice "text scrolls in" effect.

But I really want the player to be able to scroll back up through the messages, currently that's not doable.

I think the straight textbox allows user scrolling, but I can't manipulate the font colour on the fly and it looks horrible.

Anyone have a plugin or two to solve this?

  • You do not have permission to view this post

  • Wow, love this style! Looks really really neat!

  • Aaaand update time!

I have implemented the retry and attempt limits, and also have them regen over time (1 point per 30 minutes).

Unfortunately you have to be either out of the game for the full 30. or in the game for a full 30.

So next step is to combine them... More Variables! More Local Storage! Huzah!

Unfortunately you can't actually buy any more for now..

I'd really appreciate if people gave this a quick play and let me know what they thought.

If people enjoy the concept I may continue through to full release.

I have published a web version as building the APK takes a fair amount of time and isn't worth it for small builds. It is a little slower, and for some reason the web fonts aren't loading... but it's a good enough approximation.

Works with either mouse, or touch screen input.

  • V 0.1 Download

    ----------

    So, quick intro.

I'm currently working on a decently large Puzzle RPG in construct. Have been for months. And my brain is officially getting fried, and I felt I was continually coming up with the same wrong solutions to the same problems.

I thought I'd try something new. I set myself a challenge of 48Hrs to make a fully functional game.

Wen't with an Android Puzzle Game, which I have called Swiper.

The main mechanic is you have to swipe multiple blocks into a single finishing block.

I am currently about 22 hours in, and have most of the mechanics and graphics done.

    Still to do:

    • - Polish block graphics
    • - Attempt limit
    • - Retry limit
    • - Regain retrys and attempts over time
    • - more levels
    • - new mechanics? maybe?

    Heres some photos:

All music and sound and graphics are royalty free found online, I only provide the programming!

Actual credits are in the app itself

And you can follow this (and my other game) over on facebook !

V 0.1 Download, would appreciate any feedback!

  • The sdk doesn't provide anything for this. You'd have to make a seperate program that generates/modifies the layout xml files themselves.

Thanks R0j0hound, that has pointed me in the exact direction I wanted. Didn't even realise it was all handled by XML's. Thats made my life so simple!

  • Hi,

I'd like to create a small tool to assist me in creating my maps inside of Construct 2.

I have CSV's that represent my world exported from Tiled, and I'd like to make a tool that allows me to load this in and have it place objects into the layout based on the CSV.

Is this kind of Editor Extension something that is supported? I have looked into the Javascript SDK a small amount, but that appears to mostly be around add in-game features, not editor features.

Also, I know that Tiled files can be imported directly. But I'm working in Isometric so that doesn't work.

I also know i could build it all at run time using CSV To Array, and then iterating over the Array.

But, because of the way my particular game is setup that's not really an option.

If this isn't an option, thats ok. I'll just place everything by hand.

    thanks in advance,

    K

  • Can this load a JSON file from the file system? Or does it have to already be hosted on a website?
