  • Try it on this page, there is a 404.

But on this page , I just tried and it works (but cannot remove it via the unbookmark link).

  • Tom thanks, don't have seen it ^^ Actually there is a 404 error on this link (rewrite error ?)

Since the forum is moved to PHPBB3, I dig up this suggestion, because it seems very useful ! Because more accessible than a browser bookmark. Cherry on the cake would be a dropdown list of bookmarks in the header of the forum (rather than in our profile page, wich needs one more click). Perhaps there is a plug-in for this in PHPBB3 ?

Otherwise (ie you have no time for this), browser bookmarks will do the trick As it is a "comfort" suggestion.

  • My big question now is: What could be useful about C2 technologies if it is at the end only produces poor performing mobile games / apps?

I think the best way to give you an idea of the performance is to go to the showcase of each engine and download or buy the games done with it (free or paid).

The ones I've tried shows rapidly some results, in the order of "performance" on mobile :

    • native apps <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile"> yes it is probably the best way to go,
    • Haxe/OpenFL/AS3/Air (a game like Rune Raiders or Half Inch Heist shows great performance),
    • Unity3D : needs a good smartphone to run games in 3D,
    • HTML5/JS games (C2, Canvas2D/WebGL technology : LinkPop, the Flag Bearer - search for complete creations here on the forum).

I noticed the Air platform is very satisfying and that's why we can say "Flash is not dead". All the apps using the Haxe language ("One language to rule them all") can export in a variety of formats, from native to Air to HTML/JS to almost whatever you want (because Haxe use one language derived from AS3 and converts the code to other languages before compiling it fro the expected target). But it needs to maintain a lot of librairies for the developpers of the tools like C2, Stencyl and so on.

Another FW that use Haxe with export to HTML/JS and Flash : https://github.com/aduros/flambe, there is the Phaser FW to code directly in HTML5/JS.

Again, from my point of view, C2 is great because of its interface and good performance mainly for desktop/browser games. If you wanna go mobile NOW and are ok for coding in Haxe or targeting Air or Flash, you should try something else (Haxe supports a lot of gaming FW like Flixel, Flashpunk and almost FW can be added to Haxe).

I repeat actually my concern is to rapid prototyping games, for the browser or the desktop, and not put my hands in the code too much (ie, make a base platformer in 1 day rather than in 5 days ^^).

  • I think there's a check vector thing.

Doc Ai is right, you can check if Platform.VectorX is positive or negative.

    The manual should be read <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_idea.gif" alt="" title="Idea">

    https://www.scirra.com/manual/100/platform

    At the bottom

And not to forget the case if VectorX = 0, not moving left or right.

  • Thanks for your answer jayderyu. And good luck with your builder

  • C2 does provide JS execution in the Browser object, but you certainly should not use it in this case.

Can you give an example of JS execution in the browser ? (just for information).

    RTFM ^^

  • I love programming with C2. I like it so much that I started created a C2 NodeWebkit app. The app design is to compile C2 games with XWalk localling rather than XDK cloud based system. It's got a nasty overhead, but what the hell right. That's how much I like programming in C2 that I'm going to make app in it

Do you mean you're making an app builder with C2 itself ? Do you project to release it for the community ?

About XDX cloud, is it free or are there different plans like in Phonegap ?

Concerning Gamemaker, it's probably "more powerful" but the learning curve's harder than C2, and the look'n'feel probably worse (lots of icons with no text in the windows, hard to get the big picture quickly).

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I agree for the exporters, but it's a position. I know I could have more performance with Haxe (natively or via Stencyl) or perhaps via Gamemaker. I tried the two but my hands get sticked to C2 Clickteam Fusion doesn't inspire me a lot, I tried it but a long time ago (and I used their first programs STOS and AMOS in the 90's that were great at this time ... ^^).

For now I found the quick access and the quick preview of C2 really suit my needs, ie get the hands off the code and prototype concepts quicker. If "by chance" the problem of performance arrives, that means I have a game that works, so in the worst case I could always port it (or make it port by someone).

  • Oh, sorry I didn't get the point, as I never use that tool yet.

  • Hi again,

This post will not be very original, but just want to say I'm really impressed by the event system of C2. It is very intuitive and very near to "What You Think Is What You Get" And I have only a dozen of events, the double of actions and a couple of groups... (and playing with a websocket too, and it's fun !).

Hope to get this positives vibes for a long time ^^

So "bravo" Ashley, your tool is really engaging ! And the community is ultra-reactive, almost too much Again, you've got a problem, you've got more than one solution from the users, it is really cool !

Anyway, I hope to make a real finished game out of this before, let's say... the end of the year ? ^^ (Got Blizzard deadlines style).

    Cheers.

  • Thanks for sharing.

There's a blog post about it here :

    https://www.scirra.com/blog/133/introdu ... to-android

Don't know if there's been others post before on this subject, or perhaps in the manual.

  • Native language : French.

No problem to write or understand english (as far as I know ^^).

Except perhaps with Kyatric about the use of rgb() colors <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink"> We should have written in French ^^

I use a Chrome plug-in from the Word Reference website to translate words I need, directly in the browser address via the shortcut "enfr" or "fren", very useful and rapid ! http://www.wordreference.com/tools/Chro ... rtcut.aspx

  • Looks better like this. Thanks.

  • Played it on the PC of a friend, this was the rising of the PC, after the golden age of the Atari and Commodore and other Amstrad ^^

Don't play a lot but remember it was a great game with nice graphics.

Adeline Software had a link with Delphine Software (cocorico bis ^^), they where sisters. "Cruise for a corpse" by Delphine was a title that marks me, graphically speaking it was fabulous.

Crusader remids me the "Syndicate" serie, other great moment of the PC gaming...
