  • what phone model are you testing on? When i still had the Samsung Touchwiz UI installed on my phone i had the same issue.

also did you make sure fullscreen is selected in XDK Project settings?

    Tested on Nexus 5, 7 and LG G-Pad 8.3.

Ofc fullscreen is enabled in XDK.

I also notice if the buttons are visible, if I go to home and re-open it again, it opens in immersive mode.

It looks like Xwalk is set to call immersive mode on launch once, or on resume once. If anytime the buttons return for whatever reason, it won't go back to immersive.

Also, once the app is closed (via Browser => close on back button), the next launch is not in immersive mode. You have to clear the memory then launch and it works.

For those curious, cranberrygame's Phonegap IAP plugin works excellent! It's literally instant verification, unlike with CocoonJS where there is a few second delay.

I just compiled Star Nomad with the latest XDK (beta xwalk) and it's amazing, graphics quality onpar with CocoonJS, similar fast performance!

I noticed something strange, I use scale inner (with browser object calling on start of layout, fullscreen scale inner), and it behaves as if the device buttons are not there but they are visible and block the lower part of the screen (interfering with my UI). However, when i triggered an IAP (using cranberrygame's phonegap plugin), the game suddenly switch to full-screen IMMERSIVE mode, where the buttons aren't visible, you have to swipe from below to bring them up again.

I wanted to ask if thats normal and whether we can control that.

Edit: hmm, on subsequent launches it starts default in immersive mode sometimes and sometimes not... what is going on.. ??

  • I just showed them a screenshot of my game and told them its made with cocoonJS for Android. 24 hrs later they activated Marketplace.

  • Email them asking for marketplace access and they will activate it.

I am interested only in the IAP & AdMob plugins, is it possible for me to purchase only those (price?)? I have no need and no foreseeable need for all the others.

PM me and I can send the $ via paypal to you.

  • It's obviously not a requirement to make a good game.

  • Yup, Google and Apple has taken a special focus on Swing Copters clone due it the wide press coverage. So definitely Dongatory has received special treatment here, when heaps of other clones go unchecked.

I've contacted some google moderators and they say you cannot have similar games with the words swing & copters in the description. They are also filtering out games and flag it on submission if its got these meta.

Honestly I would be 100% FINE and happy if clones weren't allowed. But I am quite annoyed at the double standard and special treatment.

Tom Are you planning on making categories for the assets (graphics/sounds etc)? Its going to get very messy to sort through many submissions soon.

Definitely handy to have Genre categories for assets, or even Themes category: Scifi, Fantasy, Cyberpunk, Dystopian, Post-Apocalyptic etc. Sellers can pick Genre & Theme when listing.

  • For Z order, set On Created (Bullet) = Set to behind player

Image point works just fine, there's definitely a code issue and you just have to go over it again carefully.

  • pirx Crosswalk APK has a default requirement of OS 4+ so there's no way 2.3 would be able to install it, I never had that occur when I used Crosswalk. As for my own game, 4.2+ is my own setting. It's in the AndroidManifest.xml file in your APK. I wrote a tutorial on how to decompile an APK and edit the manifest file and recompile it.

Ashley The Console has no such options, it gives you a list of thousands of individual devices, which are compatible by default. You then have to flag each device to block it.. its really a frustrating experience because it list device code names and you have to search each one to find out about its specs.

Since you're here, I just need to know, is Scirra planning on releasing official plugins compatible with Crosswalk/XDK?

Examples here: Includes the much needed IAP & AdMob support.

I just want something official and supported down the road.

  • hi guys i really want to know how to make good graphics but i have know software so do you know any free software which is good

    I use Inkscape, it's great & free.

  • Welcome to publishing on Android.

    There's ~19,000 Android devices now: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/08/21/op ... t-devices/

Most of them are utter rubbish, so you can forget about running any complex games on it. Many of them use custom Android OS which leads to incompatibilities. Some of them use mods like Cyanogen, again, leading to incompatibility issues.

As long as your game runs on the most popular devices, you're good to go. Things like Nexus 4,5,7,10, and good models of Samsung, LG, etc etc. It's a royal pain to block each device manually since we don't even know what they all are, and under the dev panel it gives the codenames usually.

All you can do is put up with that and hope your game is good enough to get more 5 stars to balance itself out.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... omad&hl=en

I got 15 1-star rating so far. Out of those, 14 were from devices that couldn't run it. 1 guy thought it deserved 1 star due to gameplay issues (valid opinion). <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

You know something else insane? Lots of social apps like to run in the background, hogging resources and potentially conflict with running apps. I had a few ppl tell me their game would crash unless apps like Dragon Talk or some Messenger app was forced closed prior to running my games. O_o

  • Congrats on your success! It's great to see a C2 game reach a larger audience. That means the engine works well enough.

Just out of curiosity, did you market your first Flappy game anything?

Nothing wrong with C2 as an engine (a few hiccups aside), whether you reach a larger audience or success is entirely up to YOU, Marketing & Pure Dumb Luck (these all go together, I'm an ex-research scientist, I understand how much LUCK determines your outcome).

I did nothing to market the Flappy clone.

It was pure dumb luck, it appeared on the "Similar" list to other popular Flappy games, for ~5 DAYS. That's when I got all the downloads. Suddenly it was gone from that list (again, I have no idea why or how Google decides whats on those list, often, the similar list is full of non-similar stuff!), then very few new users (discover-ability is a big deal). If it had stayed on that list, it would have easily hit 1M+ downloads.

  • angellondon

I used to despise cloning too, thats why my Flappy came so late. But it all changed when I was seeing even established studios releasing their own versions, just for fun or to catch that wave...

    Noodlecake

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/deve ... 0Inc&hl=en

    Butterscotch Shenanigans

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/deve ... henanigans

    And many more.

Here's the thing about your point regarding creativity: Flappy itself wasn't unique. There were games very similar to it, many years before it. Flappy Bird was a flop for many months UNTIL it was promoted by popular youtube reviewers. That got the press going.

Swing Copters isn't unique. It's a derivative of endless jumping games, many of them have lots of obstacles and whatnot. I see no creativity there to be honest with you.

If you, I or other nobody indie devs made the EXACT same game as Swing Copters and released it, nobody would give a shit (pardon my french). But the reason we all know about it and many want to play it ASAP, is because of the press and what it has given Dong Nguyen, fame.

I don't make a clone out of malice, to me, its riding the press wave. All the press want to devote themselves to cover the search term Swing Copters and so the potential free publicity is just waiting, if you don't do it quick, the opportunity is gone. Once the wave dies down, the press moves on to something else.

It took me 5 hours to make starting to online on the store, most of that time was spent hand drawing my own assets (stealing art assets is definitely crossing the line). If it can make me a few hundred $ for that 5 hrs, great, that's another device I can test my big games on. If I did not make any money with the Flappy clone, I would NOT have been able to afford porting games to iOS.

Your point regarding the profile of developers, I speak as a gamer, I don't care about what you've made that nobody plays. I care once you manage to make a hit, for many reasons (a good game itself is not a guarantee to success), and after that, your later games already have a good foundation/fame to start with.

Edit: Do you care that Noodlecake did multiple Flappy clones? I doubt it.

Edit2: Also let's not forget, a new game with a few copy cat is being cloned, but a lot? It's created a new genre. Think Endless runners, jumping, match 3, etc. I had some funny comments from Steam regarding my big game Star Nomad, they were saying "it's just a Space Ranger/SPAZ/Drox Operative clone!".. really, it's a bloody SPACESIM, all the games of this genre are similar.

Edit3: Lastly, regarding your creativity concern, here's my own take on a unique quick tap/puzzle game: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rewallfree

I came up with the idea out of the blue. Is it a good game? I think so, as well as everyone who have tried it. The problem is I am a nobody, so no gaming site is gonna mention it (I've tried), so gamers out there don't even know it exists. Now if this game was mentioned and covered by popular youtube reviewers? I bet you it would have heaps of players. Thus, as much as its about creativity, talent and what else, marketing/publicity and pure dumb luck plays a major role. Which leads back to the other major point: Ride the press wave.
