  • zsangerous The blocks automatically move as they're on a grid and can only be in certain positions, so it moves into place. This is so that blocks don't overlap and so that the character moves correctly. Unless you meant something else?

Regarding the arrow keys, they were supposed to be completely disabled as he moves automatically, I just forgot about it. Arrow keys should be disabled now, thanks =)

  • zsangerous thanks for trying it, glad you enjoyed it =) And yeah, it's nowhere near complete, there will definitely be a tutorial in the future!

  • Been working on a game for the last couple of days and though I'd share what I'd done so far =)

Basically, it's a puzzle game in which you buy different blocks and then place them on the level in order to get the character to the goal. Similar to Mario vs Donkey Kong (if anyone's played that!), but fairly different too.

There's going to be several different stages, with around 15 levels in each - adding new blocks and obstacles throughout, so it will probably take a while to finish!

You can also play the game so far here:

    PLAY FRED

(The M Key toggles the music On/Off)

There's minimal help so far, but it should be fairly self explanatory - basically just select your block from the toolbar at the bottom using the mouse, then click anywhere on the grid to place it. Once you're ready press the Play button at the top to go!

Don't ask me why the blob is called Fred, I'll come up for a proper name for the game eventually!

Any feedback's greatly appreciated as I'm hoping to have a free and paid version of this (with more stages) if it's good enough =)

  • Ashley I guess so, depends if it will affect people who haven't updated chrome though.

  • I personally think it's quite a good idea; opens the competition up to a different sort of person than the game designing ones.

I'd probably enter seeing as I'm training to be a teacher next year and I should probably get some practice in! =)

  • EDIT: Just updated Chrome to 18.0.1025.142 m and it seems to be fixed, whoops!

In chrome, if you move to a different tab than you game then move back again, the fps doubles and seems to be trying to cap it at 120 for me instead.

Doesn't appear to be doing this on Firefox or IE9.

I've attached a capx, but it should be easily to replicate anyway. (Sorry if the download link is slow, having issues with my server!).

    I'm running Windows 7 64-Bit

and my Chrome version is 17.0.963.83 m

  • Nice, was reading about this method the other day, will come in handy!

  • The exact size of your layout does not matter if you use the 'fullscreen (scale mode)' option!

Not sure if I'm just missing something with this, but when I set it to 'fullscreen (scale mode)' it shows objects outside of the layout if the screen is too big. Is there a way to stretch it to accomodate for both widescreen and normal screens?

  • Excellent! Looking forward to it =)

  • mina no problem =) I had to do it myself when I downgraded again at some point!

  • You can if:

You rename the .capx to .zip

Extract it and then open the extracted .caproj with notepad

Change the line near the top that reads '<saved-with-version>TypeNewVersionHere</saved-with-version>' to whichever version you want and save it.

You can then just open the .caproj directly, or zip it back up and rename it to a .capx.

I guess it might not work particular well if the capx includes new features though!

  • Timeline can't be used on the arcade, but webstorage can with limitations.

The bottom post by Ashley on this thread details which events are allowed and which aren't.

    Hope that helps =)

  • This unlocks a lot of possibilities, good work!

  • Will try and do this if I have the time, but alas, my dissertation must come first!

  • Currently downloading Windows 8 to test this out, will get back with the results =)
