  • I play tested this game so much back then it had ceased being fun a long time ago, so i lost heart and motivation to finish it.

I decided at the time to have a break, to regain some perspective and not play or even think about it, so it's been sat on my HD with the rest of my unfinished projects.

Pretty funny looking back at this dev log how the games progressed, v10 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/159885981/pb10/index.html

I tried the last version again today for the first time in well over a year. I think it's kind of fun now and can definitely appreciate what i was trying to do at the time.

The last version i posted was bug filled, i'd actually done a lot of work on it since then but never got around to posting it here, so i figure i'd update the preview now and ask for all your honest opinions on it. Is it fun, is it worth finishing?

If i recall correctly i fixed a heap of bugs, started work on creating the levels (100 in total), prepared for the artwork to be implemented, and added a sort of help system which appears when a new spell is introduced.

EDIT - Ok so theres still a bug where sometimes the dialogues get stuck, you need to restart the game if that happens If it keeps happening just skip them when they appear.

  • Gigatron have you seen these? http://sprite3d.minimal.be/Karting/, http://sprite3d.minimal.be/Rally/. http://minimal.be/lab/Sprite3D/. What do you make of it? A general purpose simple 3d engine using sprites instead of 3d models would be a cool plugin.

  • I'm trying to run the "lights and geometry" example but i get this error -

Uncaught Type error: Cannot read property 'setHexR' of undefined Quazi3D_plugin.js line 2656 (col 42).

I have the latest stable build of Chrome, Construct and NW.js.

Also when i try the other examples and try clicking on any light action like lights/hemisphere it always brings up "Auto update shadows" instead. I'm guessing it's because there arnt any light based commands in the Q3D master that i can see, so how are the lights being created/set? The examples don't use any Q3dLight objects. I'm just trying to learn how to set up a scene.

A bit disappointed with the lack of docs to be honest

    My original post from September.

  • So please, respect Quazi's private life and his personal will. When he wants and has the time to work on the plugin, he will do that.

    ?

What he's been able to achieve and whether it was possible to do in C2 and how it compares to other products is all irrelevant. Yes he's obviously worked hard on the project, but he also asks money for his work, fair enough it's not a huge sum and i don't expect him to be chained to his desk but you simply can't turn around and behave like its some free plugin with a donate button.

For your information i've posted questions in this thread, non have been answered, and still haven't, and of the 4 examples 1 produces an error, also reported with no response, and the other appears to use commands which have since been superseded.

Like you i've since answered my own questions (apart from the error), i was simply giving my feedback on the current situation as it stood at the time of posting. You've given yours, i guess we see the situation differently. How others see the situation and whether they think i'm being too hard on him and if i'm a jerk is up to them.

I'm not trying to pick a fight but to be fair you must have known what you were getting into when you created it, how difficult it would be, how frequently Construct gets updated and the limitations of the SDK. You must also have known how busy you'd likely be in the future with your studies or whatever. I certainly understand your reasons and can relate but if you're selling a product i don't think its a good enough excuse. Either make the situation clear or don't sell the product.

If you'd had a disclaimer on the plugins website and here on the front page of this thread saying you're pretty much done with it and use it "as is" then thats fine, and to be honest if that was the case i probably wouldn't have bothered buying it. I was never expecting unity, the plugin seems fine, but i was expecting some indication on how to use it.

As someone who did buy it i think i have a right to post my experiences, and only fair to warn other potential customers what to expect. You've posted what the situation is (something you should have done in the first place) and so people can decide for themselves now. I've had my say so i'll leave it at that.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • The skeptic in me thinks that some of the companies now just do this stuff in the hope of being bought out after gaining some attention and making their millions like Oculus Rift and Facebook.

They're basically making Facebook OS here anyway.

  • purplemonkey i hear what you're saying, but at the same time i don't want to chase him all over the internet or start posting on his personal pages.

Last I heard QuaziGNRLnose was upset with the limitations for Plugins in Construct 2. Interaction with Q3D is cumbersome because of this. Maybe he's (she's?) waiting for Construct 3 for a overhaul.

And I REALLY hope that's the case, cause I'm learning to love this plugin, even with all limitations it has. I tried looking up what it would take to make a 2.5 D game in Unity and, God, what a pain. There's really nothing like C2 event system out there. I'd rather have limited 3D graphics in C2 instead of a powerful 3D engine I can't handle.

My problem isn't with the plugin specifically, its thats he's selling a product that has zero support or contact combined with no documentation. I guess i bought the plugin on good faith based on him being a long time user, and the fact that it's relatively inexpensive so was worth the risk (since there was no demo to try, which isn't possible with a plugin).

Theres always the risk using 3rd partly plugins that the developer will disappear, but its a little annoying when the product is being sold.

Personally i think Ashley, Tom should look into whether they should allow plugins to be sold on their forums like this without some input by themselves, i.e. outside the store. But at the end of the day no one forced me to buy it, i just want to warn others what to expect.

  • I know he's put a lot of work into it but i would have to advice anyone against buying this plugin at the moment.

Support is non existent, i've asked questions that never get a response.

    There is no documentation.

The few examples that come with it use deprecated commands.

Yes it requires some understanding of 3d, which i have, but its still all just painstaking trial and error of each command, of which there are many.

  • In my mind Constructs main competition is going to be Fusion3 in terms of similar workflow. I left multimedia Fusion some years ago, not because i didn't like the software but because i felt it never lived up to its potential. They were also poor at communication and slow to update.

If the rumoured Fusion 3 features are to be believed it will have all the features of C2 and non of the problems.

  • Very cool!

  • Sounds like you misunderstand what "public domain" means because angry birds certainly isn't.

For something to be in the public domain the copyright need to expire or the copyright holder relinquishes claim to it.

Anyway i'm not going to continue arguing, i should know better than to get involved in things like this to begin with. All you guy's are cool so ignore me and do what you feel is right.

  • The berne convention international copyright agreement to which Lebanon, UK and USA have all signed. It's up to each party to enforce it so the law is different for each country but must still conform to the agreement.

    Behold the power of google.

"The Berne Convention formally mandated several aspects of modern copyright law; it introduced the concept that a copyright exists the moment a work is "fixed", rather than requiring registration. It also enforces a requirement that countries recognize copyrights held by the citizens of all other signatory countries."

  • Legally i think you shouldn't have a problem with it, however some people will still probably see similarities.

  • The quote doesn't mean what you're implying it does.

Anyway Picasso is always miss credited as saying it.
