  • Seeing as how those are 2D digital paintings... I fail to see the need for 3D.

  • and about the Hardness, i dont think thats hard, with the double jump you can easily hit the first switch, or is just me that thinks that? D:

It's just you. It's your own game, you've tested it a thousand times... of course you're good at it. For someone playing the first time, not so much.

Balancing the gameplay is probably the most difficult thing for new developers. Just keep in mind that noobs don't know your controls, they don't know the moves... give them easy things to accomplish at first, and ramp up the difficulty as time progresses. That switch up high on the wall is something for a later level.

  • You can click and drag the right edge of the condition and resize it

  • It appears that the captcha image for registration isn't appearing for new users... there was someone who logged into chat as a guest and informed us of this. I logged out to check the reg screen to confirm it, the image didn't show up for me either.

  • Why are you cutting from layer to layer.... You can drag an object onto the layer bar on the right hand side... It will even place it back to the same spot....

    ... what

I had no idea you could do that. That's awesome

  • Pretty good demo so far. The placement for the switches and walls is a little too ******** for a first level, but I understand that it's just a demo engine.

And I like the destructible terrain too, I just wish there were a way to get rid of the tiny floating bits automatically, without having to jump and shoot a hundred times trying to hit them.

As for the crashes you encounter while using Construct... you really should report those. See if you notice a pattern when it crashes. Does it usually crash while doing the same activity? Are you able to recreate the crash? If so, then post a bug report. The quicker it's fixed, the faster v1.0 will come .

Heck, you could even try crashing it on purpose just to track down the bug.

  • I need no praise for my meager contributions. It's reward enough to know it's there.

Though I now realize that the favicon for the Scirra site is actually the right size and looks better than the button I made, so they should probably use that instead

  • I just played the free copy of Kung Fu Panda that came with my XBOX for the first time last night (it sucks horribly), and the grass in that game uses this exact effect to wave around. When I saw it I thought "hehe, Construct."

Of course, it was 3D but that's beside the point.

  • Seems like there should be a way to resize text boxes at runtime. You should make a feature request.

  • When you delete an object it removes the conditions and actions and such, and cutting is pretty much copying and deleting at the same time. If you're just moving something I'd recommend copying it and pasting it before deleting the original, that way your events and behaviors remain intact.

Maybe there could be some sort of system whereby if you cut an object, it won't "delete" the object until you either paste it or copy something else. I don't know if that would be possible though.

  • Not too many replies on this build... I take that as a good sign . Everything seems to be working pretty well so far.

  • I'm just not sure about those slops - i know they suposed to be simple, but looks kind of weird when player stand on the bottom sprite overlapse withe the horizontal platform and when he's on top one of his legs is on the platform and the other one is in the air

Yeah, it's just a very basic example. This is just a beginner's tutorial, something to give you an idea of how something works. This method for slopes could be expanded to make smoother slopes where the overlap doesn't occur, or you could tweak your animations so they look right, etc. Or you could go with a different method entirely.

But if I showed that sort of stuff it would take forever. And after all, it's a tutorial, not a full, polished game. It's a starting point for new users, and hopefully will give them the knowledge they need to expand these methods into what they want to do, not just copy/paste the code into their own game.

  • The new Lesson 4 has been rewritten! Finally!

I've redone the moving platforms, and removed all the detectors. It now uses built-in methods of detection such as "Has wall" or "Is overlapping at offset."

Also, the content was kind of light after rewriting everything so I decided to include Drasa's slopes in this lesson . Thanks Drasa!

Anyway, enjoy. If you find any errors you can blame Candescence, he was the proofreader on this one. Lesson 5 should be up in a few days, hopefully.
