  • Wow thanks thats really useful! ill take a look and see if i can possibly comphrehend how it works... thanks again!

  • C++ is quite similar to c#, the main thing i have trouble with is pointers... theres a tutorial at cplusplus.com but u might need to buy a book or something... good luck!

  • oh i mean you can set a vanishing point and lines come from it to give you a guide. google image search perspective grid to see what i mean. im thinking of making a peuso-first person game and that would be useful. little things like this probably wont happen till post-1.0, it was just an idea. game maker has a seperate isometric grid u can enable, but i havent done iso games so i dont know if its needed, i just assumed. i would be interested in a perspective grid tho

  • i think you should add isometric and perspective grids to construct, it would really help with pueseo-3d games. you could choose from a dropdown list and set your own vanishing point. likely?

  • oh right i understand now. probably be best just to hide it in the list then... opening old caps will pop up a warning... maybe not let you run until you replace all the sound actions? construct rules btw, keep up the good work!

  • wouldnt it be quite easy to write a converter? i mean someone said they have the same features so wouldent it just be a case by case replacement? having said that, as construct matures more plugins may become obsolete, we may have to work out a generic system to take care of this sort of thing...

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • seconding light and shadow. in particular, i dont quite understand shadowcaster so anything there would be great.

  • > I just realized i used the wrong term.. this is not text blitting it's some kind of displaying dialogue text.. also, how do i edit my posts,

    > t's disabled after a few hours. Yeah, it's annoying. I know why it was done this way, basically because of someone being silly and removing parts of their posts that were useful.

    > This is alright, one of the most annoying features is how when a word gets too long the whole word is then shifted down a line.

    > hat made me get in the habit of making the text box as long as the res width.

ry for going offtopic but about the editing thing u could make it so you can add text but not remove stuff thats already there its not perfect but maybe an ok compromise...

  • Yeah, you can make your own simple lights that way, but the light object also interacts with bumpmaps and shadow casters for you automatically.

Ah, but what if you have a puseo-3d game? you need shadows to wrap reallistically around objects. you cant do that with the light object! not to mention glass effects... and as i said above, if you have a seperate shadow layer you can find out how dark it is at any given point. would really help with a stealth game! edit: infact thinking about it, the shadowcaster isnt much use at all. its only real use is in topdown games, and even then its pretty simplistic. opacity masks 4eva!!

  • i never use the light object, i just make a semitransparent mask image which tints everything beneath it the color of the mask, and put it on top of everthing but below the hud. u have to do it yourself but it allows for much more control. u could make a stealth game with that, using the los object to find out how dark a certain coordinate is. i might do that, make a game like trilby: art of theft, great game btw, try it out!

  • i wish more people used construct, its much better than eg game maker but quite few people use it compared, im not really seeimg any construct games on other sites...

  • it would be better to have an offline help browser that you can use from within a window in construct, like the gimp. you could include the latest help files im each build but then you can just press update and it only replaces the files that have been changed. probably be really hard to do tho
