  • megatronx - I agree - and I fear it's the beginning of a new 6 month cycle of "they're fixing it".

  • That's rather disheartening, ! I would much prefer we all had the same bad experience than each a different version of incompatibility :/.

  • - ha - you're right, but only if you use Scirra's nw.js v13 installation. The one from github works just fine for me...

Edit - "just fine" does not include full screen or kiosk mode. All looks like a rather rushed introduction of an alpha nw.js to the c2 output schedule IMO.

  • , have you considered creating a ssytem to use nw.js file storage to store your game state inside the user's folder? After described this to me a couple of days ago I haven't looked back. I presume that it could suffer the same asynchronous challenges that local storage provides, but this works on v13 AFAIK (although I'm using v12 still).

  • Well I never.... I just received the email of good news - Umbra has been greenlit! More news to follow....

Anonnymitet - thank you again for some gems of advice.

    planetserve - thank you!

  • Anonnymitet, thank you - there's some very good advice in your post. I am not keen on giving the game away and, like you, I thought that Groupees would be the best compromise for gaining some visibility. I was promised by my contact that they would distribute the keys for me, and I hadn't really comprehended that after launch sales could be affected so much. For me this is a great experience, no matter what happens. It's interesting - launching a game that has a similar theme to Limbo brings out the worst is some people. The ratio of yes votes has gone down a bit after the initial craziness, with a few negative comments by people who clearly haven't tried it, but I'm still showing as inside the top 40 with about 50/50 yes/no ratio. Fingers crossed for a couple of weeks and then I can start fighting with NW.js and the Steam api!

  • R217 or r216? If it's the former then it might be associated with the NW.js save problem - there's nothing in the changelog about a local storage update in the beta though.... I'm not a JavaScript guru, however...

  • Groupees Bundle has proven rather popular (to say the least)... Umbra is now showing as comfortably in the top 100 (No 63) out of almost 1800 games on greenlight, with >1000 yes votes (at 54% yes)! I think I need to sit down... But, instead, I'm going to start work on the Steam achievements events, in anticipation of someone making a plugin that will support them.

  • I created a company in the UK through Companies House. All dealings were on line, there was a nominal set up fee (IIRC) and that was it: I received emailed paperwork to validate my business name as that of a sole proprietor and I became my company's CEO lol. By registering as a trader you will have to declare tax, though. But technically your government wants a slice of your profits if you create anything and sell it (above national minimum wages). It sounds ominous, but at least in the UK it's quite a simple task - fill out finance reports once per year on line and then submit them. Keep records of what you sell and what you but. If you buy hardware / software you can declare it as a business cost, which offsets against any taxable profit etc. If you don't make any profit then you don't have to pay tax, and if you make a lot of money and are then discovered as a tax avoider, you could find yourself with a hefty back-tax bill...

  • I agree NW a5 also doesn't (yet) support kisok mode using

    var gui = require('nw.gui'); gui.Window.get().enterKioskMode();[/code:3ff1q81j]

It's a long way from release status, but I am looking forward to when it becomes reliable for us to use.
  • Ruskul - In answer to your question in your other thread: yes! Some steady progress is being made - Umbra: Shadow of Death is now available as part of a Groupees bundle bundle 10. The Greenlight response has been quite favourable too!

  • ^^lol I'm reverting back to r216 and v12 nw.js - it appears that full screen is not supported for me either, and I'm also seeing graphics artifacts / poor rendering of fast moving objects. Alpha indeed!

  • - I'm doing the same. All is well now I've replaced the c2 nw.js files with those from github.

  • - I have the first 3 checked and it works, of course, in r216 or with the github files copied over....

zenox98 - I think this bug report should read that the c2 installed nw.js files are different to those on github.

  • Specifically, the following files are different sizes: icudtl.dat , node.dll , nw.dll.
