  • This is such a strange argument...

There is a learning curve with every new program that you try, but once you've gotten used to the layout and terms doesn't it seem much less mystifying? Isn't it better to use the same terms that other programs use, so if and when you decide to try a similar program you won't have to learn a whole new set of commands?

I sort of understand where you're coming from, but it's not like Construct is using undocumented terms. Just give it some time and patience and I'm sure it won't seem so alien before long.

  • Greater health would definitely be a cool addition.

I was wondering... since larger objects are so easy to destroy, could you make it so they fire at you? Like if the height and width are over a certain size firing is enabled but it isn't if the image is smaller?

This *might* be what you wanted.

You can use the "timeline" object to schedule events to occur at specific times.

(ignore that first .cap that I posted... you want it set to "always" and not "repeat")

  • I think Construct was made the way that it is assuming that users already have at least a small understanding of game making programs. You don't HAVE to have prior experience, but if you've ever used any other program things as simple as "variables" should be instantly recognizable.

I think most programs use "programmer speak" because it's what most semi-experienced to expert users know. If they used simplified terms for everything it might help complete newcomers, but it would detract experienced users who are used to programs using common terms.

  • I can't get rid of the background...

I used Photoshop and saved a work path, and then saved a clipping path, but I still get a white background. I tried Graphics Gale and I made the white background an alpha channel but that didn't work, either.

How did you get your images "cut out" like that?

Congratulations on your placing, Radix. You were up against some serious competition!

  • Looks like you're making some good progress.

Have you checked out Ashley's "Instant Hit Laser" example yet?

  • X-Men + Altered Beast + Ghost and Goblins = Awesome.

    Especially for your first game!

(what game is the zombie in the background from?)

This should take care of both of your problems.

  • After adding the Xaudio2 object go to your event sheet.

Just for an example, make an "On any key pressed" and then under "New Action" select "Autoplay File". For the "AppPath" tell it where to look for the file (make sure it is in parenthesis) and replace "example.wav" with the name of your sound.

That loads the sound as you play it, though. So if it's a big file you might want to use the "Load File" instead. You use it the same but if you have a lot of big files and you don't want your game to lag you can make a "please wait...loading" screen that pops up after you choose to start your game. Use that screen to "Load File" your big sounds and *then* have your game start.

Be sure to make a note of which sound is loaded to which channel, though. (you play them by selecting "Play" and then telling it which channel you want.

  • Oh, okay.

...I still like the art style. (I know that isn't what you had a problem with, of course)
