  • I wouldn't even bother making the player global. Just copy and paste the player into the layout you want just as you have it in the first layout but in the position you want it to start. Be sure to include the events for movement and such that you might have on layout 1 so everything's works. Also, consider making an event sheets with all of the player info that you can just right-click and include on every layout to keep you from redoing too many events.

    You can also have an invisible object where you want the player to start and on start of layout, create player at said object's position. You can then also use that object's position for respawning on death, too. In any case, the player sprite must get placed in the layout somehow and you should include necessary events for things to work.

  • These look really fantastic! Great job, I'll have to keep your contact info for later use :-P

  • Don't be afraid of lighting and shadowing, and remember that contrast makes a huge difference. That's partly why silhouette games have been so popular and appealing. Use color to your advantage--whether by your character being identified by his palette or by things like a blue-hued environment with orange/red accents highlights, etc. Try to make things look interesting and appealing while avoiding tackiness. Something else skipped at times because it is invisible in a screenshot is motion. It's a visual medium, so try to make things not look static. Have machines? Make them operate. Have outdoor settings? Try some wind.

    Just try to have an idea in mind or something inspiring and try to bring it to life.

  • Spammed it to everyone I know as well. Good luck with it! Glad to help you reach your dreams. Oh, and pledged.

  • It looks pretty neat and has some nice graphics going for it. You should definitely update this thread with links, screenshots, and a link to the YouTube trailer. Not everyone is going to be willing to manually see your website.

  • Why not have an invisible tiled background object set to solid? C2 allows rotation, stretching, resizing, etc and you can make the base image that makes up the tiled background as small as you want--2x2 pixels even. Just block out what you want solid with that and have a single event that makes the object invisible on runtime (start of layout -> make invisible). Heck, put that invisible event on the main event sheet that you might be including on all layouts and you have about no effort involved.

    Unless there's something more specific you're trying to do.

  • Oh, I thought it had come and gone already and I missed it! KS didn't work for me, but yours is a more broad-reaching product so i'm sure you'll do well! And thanks.

  • Congrats on getting funded, lucid! Spriter is looking fantastic.

    <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/CubedOCR/Blight/block.png" border="0" />

    Here's a shot sort of showing off the block feature in blight (casting a quick shield in front to protect from in-coming harm. The same move when cast in the air lets you float temporarily and protects from underneath.

  • links dont work....:(

    Huh. No earthly idea why all the links had gone way, but they all work now! Thanks for letting me know.

  • Of course gameplay is king, but I think if you're selling an experience, the look should be just right. Of course you want the game to be fun, but don't skimp on making the game world interesting and inviting.
